Not resign, just stand aside as the matter of the fatal accident over which has now been charged is determined. The Magpie argues for her to reconsider her unexplained ‘hell no I won’t go’ stance. The ‘Pie puts the case for her to step down.
Is Donald Trump gay? Well, he seems to think he is, and has said so publicly- in so many words.
Les Messagebank Walker has a stab at social media trolling, and shows what a fathead he is.
No let up in News Corpse fawning admiration for criminals, dead or alive.
And why The Magpie wishes that bloody Shari Tagliabue in the Bulletin would put a sock in it.
But first …
What Did They Really Give Donald Trump In Hospital?
Move over Roald Dahl, you’ve been dethroned as the kingmaker of terrifying nightmares, as described in your legendary book Kiss Kiss. Your place has been taken by sex-crazed modern day half man-half beast known to the world as The Trumpanzee.
Whatever experimental treatment Trump received in hospital, it has had an unexpected side effect … he’s come out of more than hospital … he’s come out as gay, even bisexual.
Parents watching Trump on TV covered their children’s eyes and ears when he told a Florida audience ‘I feel powerful, I’ll kiss the guys … and beautiful women … and everybody’. And this coming just hours after a prancing, mincing dance to the Village People’s gay anthem YMCA at another rally. Suddenly, fathers reached for their guns, mothers hushed terrified crying children before they themselves lost their suppers. Even Bentley, a hardy type normally, freaked out, imagining the nightmare of Trump seeing himself as Superman and the rest of us as potential Lois Lanes.
It seems his interest in pudenda is no longer restricted to the female feline variety.
Our usual gallery on the Mobster President a bit later, but first, the most serious local matter of the moment.
Why Mayor Jenny Hill Should Stand Down
But before we go there, let’s clear up a matter that some people are confused about. The Queensland Police website does not say that Mayor Hill has been ‘charged’ … in that it doesn’t use that word. But she has indeed been charged.
This from the Queensland Government website.
How you are charged
Police usually charge people with criminal offences by 1of 3 methods: arrest, complaint and summons or notice to appear.
Each method generally requires you to appear before the Magistrates Court to commence proceedings.
Notice to appear
A notice to appear provides a general description of the offence charged, rather than the formally worded charge in a summons. It doesn’t have to be sworn on oath, so police can issue it on the spot.
So, yes, she has been charged with driving without due care and attention, causing death. Evidence for the coroner is still being compiled, but she will face remand to a higher court when she appears before a magistrate on October 30.
Without comment or suggestion on Clr Hill’s particular matter, this is necessary information to give some context to The Magpie’s remarks that follow.
So, one thing is for certain, this will be a long legal process, with a lot and stake, and not just for Jenny Hill. (Unless in the unlikely circumstance that Clr Hill enters an early plea of guilty.)
As The Magpie has said during the week – upsetting a few people who are far more suited to Facebook than this blog – no comments will be published by others or made by himself on the actual matter now before the courts. Suffice to say that the charge in itself does not require the mayor to either stand down pro tem or resign. But the issue of how the situation now affects this city is certainly a question that should be canvassed. And The ‘Pie can see no upside, for her or the city, if Jenny Hill refuses to stand down while this matter is determined, a process which will almost certainly drag on into next year .
First of all, if she remains, she will be a lame duck mayor. No matter what future legal outcomes, she will never be able to achieve her most cherished goal of a creating a legacy for her time in office. She will instead be remembered as someone who selfishly clung on to office, in the vain and bogus attempt to appear to continue to serve the city even while under great stress.
These are some of the things she should ask herself.
For a start, can a person with an unresolved charge of this seriousness hanging over her effectively remain the public face and representative of Townsville? People and companies she would be dealing with would well know that should things go against her, she would be forced to resign, negating any chance of continuity and confidence in any agreements reached. Anything that could progress the city’s economy and well being would be put on hold until the matter is resolved.
Would job-creating companies be willing to negotiate with a mayor in these circumstances? And in line with that, Jenny Hill is known as a deal maker who seeks arrangements that benefit her standing and profile with certain groups, not necessarily the residents of Townsville. Would she be vulnerable to questionable deals that would bolster her profile, possibly at the expense of the best interests of the city.
Public appearances at civic and visitor meet and greet events would be severely compromised, because it would be an ill advised situation to have her chatting and laughing socially, given the grave matter that has brought about her current situation. And it would be even worse if she attended to these various duties in a sombre and downbeat manner.
It may be an unfashionable idea these days, especially in the bare knuckle political climate that has become more savage with the advent of social media, but stepping down would be the honourable thing to do, and would not in any way colour any judicial judgments down the track.
Then there is the constant background pressure she remains under until the matter is resolved. Being mayor is a tough gig under normal circumstances, let alone a situation such as this. Can Mayor Hill honestly say that she can handle the strains and busy schedule with this huge personal burden ticking away 24/7. Will she be mentally at the top of her game, as we the electorate are entitled to expect? Were she in this position and instead of holding public office, she were a corporate executive, she would almost certainly be stood down until the outcome was reached. If it is good enough for sports people who serve no one but themselves to be arbitrarily stood down when facing (sometimes less serious) charges, often with financial consequences, surely someone who can effect the well being and future of tens of thousands of people should consider standing aside voluntarily as the right and fair thing to do.
These are the things the mayor should consider, and act on appropriately, if she has a genuine love for the city that has given her so much.
And The Magpie is not making a cheap joke in this serious matter when he says he want Mayor Hill to stand down, NOT resign. Because if she resigns, under the Local Government Electoral Act, runner up in March’s mayoral election, Sam Cox, would become mayor. And that would be an outcome he doesn’t deserve, and neither do we.

Canonising Crims – Seems It’s News Ltd Editorial Policy
Hot on the heels of Townsville 10 Hottest Crims (featured in last week’s blog) comes this little bobby dazzler from the Courier. The Magpie was not a hap[py camper.
ENOUGH IS ENOUGH. THEY’RE AT IT AGAIN, AND IT MUST STOP.
The Magpie is calling for an end to News Ltd’s anti-social, community-damaging and cynical editorial policy of glamorising criminals into misunderstood heroes who were all ‘ordinary blokes deep down.’
Deep down under all the sociopathic, sadistic and murderous tendencies that have taken lives, created a drug scourge, terrorised innocent citizenry and violently stolen property with impunity. The only good thing about this bikie cancer on society is that they generally murder each other in turf or power wars.
What possible interest, what possible purpose is served by this latest example of this editorial policy, in the Courier Mail today.
QUOTE:“He was a wonderful person,” Ms McPhee said.
“He might have had some issues but deep down at the end of the day, he had a very good heart. He always put other people first”. He what? First in the firing line perhaps.
Another quote: ‘Ms McPhee said Bowden had had a difficult life’.
Maybe, but that is no excuse for the difficult life he inflicted on others he bumped into.
When you extol the dubiously claimed virtues of a psychopath – ‘had a good heart’- what bollocks, he was an out and out c..t … you are greatly disrespecting his victims and his damage to society. And this supposedly romantic farewell comes from a woman who enabled this behaviour, did nothing to curb it and stuck around instead of heading out the door his his child. Probably got a lot of trinkets along the way, paid for in blood and misery.
OK, McPhee is entitled to her private grief, but it should be just that, private, we, the general public, are entitled to not be regaled with this misguided maudlin reporting trying to humanise an out-and-out arsesole, in a paper that in the past has been expected to stand up for the law abiding majority of our society.
Note the past tense in that statement.
They Do Things Different In Charters Towers … Apparently.
Typical, innnit? They don’t tell you how the stable received it’s minor injuries.
Forget about betting on two flies crawling up a wall, or how many seconds one will stay on Mike Pence’s head.
Two things you can always depend on: Australian larrikin humour, and the gambling industry’s unerring ability to entice people to bet on ANYTHING. But you have to admire the classic Aussie irreverence of Sportsbet’s come-on for the American Presidential market. Check out the video in this Mumbrella report.
There are just so many permutations of betting combinations, they could be best described the biggest-ever collections of punts about … the biggest-ever collection collections of punts.
But the grim humour has continued during the week in America itself, with both the real and the imagined Donald Trump becoming more and more unhinged before our eyes. Some of the media seem to have lost focus, too.

That photo of Katter, it’s obvious he has been taking the same cocktail of poisonous shit that Trump has been indulging in during his hospital vacation.
Nope.
He’s demonstrating what happens when an octopus attacks your face.
I understand that you were a court reporter for a rag of a local newspaper, a fair while back Townsville Magpie. A large ‘slice’ of your musings contains a fair bit of legal jargon.
Are you a trained lawyer, or a wannabe lawyer, or do you rely on old legal eagle mates to feed you the jargon to try and impress us readers, with your weekly offering of old cobblers (your words and sentiments, not mine)! How about plain English next week and no legal/judicial BS?
Part of the point of this blog is de-jargonising legal matters where necessary, but in doing that, The Magpie, often against the evidence in comments, expects a certain level of intelligence and education in the average reader. And is he a lawyer? Send in $120, The ‘Pie only answers questions for money.
So what you are saying John Grisham, is that you are no John Grisham when is comes to the legal jousting and grammatical satire of our favourite blog !
The bulletin facebook page has a story of why police took so long. Not looking for a free read here but can anyone tell what was said in the artical? Or is it just another bullshit click bait story in the paper.
The cops simply said they needed the time to be accurate, to ensure any charge could stand up in court. They said this was the normal time frame for such investigations, which is a classic public servant statement, because they make the time frame without actually explaining any process that could possibily take that long. And the Astonisher was its usual uninformative self when it had a headline screaming that the mayor says she would stay in the top job … but the story itself merely said she confirmed she would not be stepping down, and this probing, investigative newspaper failed to ask the obvious two word question: why not?
The front page of courier mail didn’t hold back today. ” Death charge”.
I feel for Gladys Berejiklian. She has made an error of judgement and those calls will most likely be her downfall. However, Daryl Maguire is systematically tearing her apart, he is the worst witness ever. He makes out he has always had her interests at heart, but everything he says throws her under the bus. It’s almost like he knows he’s done for, and wants to take her down as well but make it look like he’s a good guy. Which he is not.
Dear ‘Pie,
Thanks for the dangerous driving stats.
If a Mayor was sent to prison for any reason would the second place-getter at the last election become Mayor?
Yes, Sam Cox as runner-up with 27% of the vote, would be invited to become mayor. But that nightmare gets worse … if party animal Sam got up for the Mad Katters in the Burdekin state election, then the mayoral position would be offered to Dishface Dowling, who got just17% of the vote. If God exists, he’s really got it in fo Townsville.
Why did you need to say that Pie! I can just imagine Fatty Palmer dropping his box of TimTams and switching priorities to get Vote4Cox elected, whilst at the same time helping the wallopers get a successful conviction. The big fella loves a 2 4 1 deal.
Dowling! You have to be joking.
it’s the law, and as we know, the law is an ass. But unfortunately, an ass that kick us in the ass. A lot of things would have to happen in order for that to happen and before the riots started, so think we’re pretty safe.
Putting aside any consideration of the event or the case itself, the date selected for the appearance reminds me of “taking out the rubbish day” so loved by The West Wing.
There has been a rush of announcements and clearing the decks of items hanging over the heads of state ALP before the election.
Who knows, we might even see some stalled projects pulled out of the cobwebs and started to great fanfare just in time for the wet season.

Droll … and so sadly true.
The day’s award for the 180 degree wrong headline goes to the New Daily online news site. As a showstopper, it’s a bobby dazzler.
You have to open the story to get what was actually meant.
At least it wasn’t the Astonisher this time. They’ve had a couple of classics in the last week.
Does anyone seriously believe that Jenny Hill will step down while her fate is being decided?
If I were a bookie I’d rate the chances of that at 1000-1.
It would be completely out of character and in any case she wouldn’t want any replacement sifting through the council books while she sits on the sidelines.
Whatever happens, please God, don’t saddle us with Dishface Dowling.
Dowling is the puppet. Clive will be pulling his strings. At that thought I will now bang my head against the wall until I cheer up.
No, really?
Is it just me but with 13 days before the State election we seem to have new contributors trying to discredit the Magpie and this blog . Surely it couldn’t be Political Party Trolls ? . Expect an increase of New Zealanders relocating to Australia over the next few years with Jacinda Ardern re-elected with a majority . IMF N.Z. Report card before the election “ the detoriation of structual Government debt is the 2 nd worst in the world . By 2025 NZ Gdp will only be 98.4% of what it was in 2019 “ .
Yep it’s a mess over there and bound to get much worse, Australia needs to be diligent in this regard, the last thing we need is thousands of Kiwis heading across the ditch whilst we struggle to find jobs for Australians, if they can’t prove they have enough savings to sustain themselves for a couple of years they should be denied entry.
Oh the scourge of Kiwis. Oh was that a ‘Trans Tasman Bubble’ I hear you bleating for?
If Jenny Hill decides to do the right thing and step down, and both Sam and Dishface win State seats, who would be her replacement?
Next placegetter, who came fourth, Chris EASTAUGHFFE, on 4.97% of the vote.
Go Chris!
But unless a councilor stands up and calls for Hill to step down, she will tough it out.
If there was some form of opposition to Team Hill in council they would be demanding she step aside, but our only “independent” councilor is Sue Blom and she’s a lame duck.
After being hauled across the coals by Jenny for daring to expose the council’s financial woes on her website, Blom has neither been seen or heard.
Pathetic.
Hahahahaha … even if the whole council called for to step down/resign (as if!) she could and probably would give them the finger and stay on, the issue isn’t open to a vote unless they go down the local government equivalent of a ‘no confidence’ motion, if there is one.
Magpie if The Mullet Resigns after 21 March 2021, the seat is filled by a By-election. The automatic replacement only counts within the first 12 months I think.
I am hoping that messageBank gets elected in Mundingburra. If he does the seat on council automatically goes to the lady from woodstock that hates the Lansdowne development. That should add to the Mullets stress. I heard that Jenny was seen door knocking with Glenn Doyle to help him win.
Hello pie. Can you show where you are getting your info re the losing candidate gets the gig? I thought the council can appoint an acting or deputy from their ranks. Depending on the time before the fixed term ends a by election can be called by the local government minister. I stand to be corrected.
The ‘Pie’s (possibly imperfect) understanding is an acting mayor is only appointed when the mayor stands aside temporarily /is on leave/ ill/ overseas or whatever, but the other scenario comes into play if the mayor resigns. There are time limitations on when a by election can be held. Read the succession info in a news report but you could check it on the Local Government website.
Both correct. IF the Doona did the honourable thing and stepped down for a period she could essentially appoint anyone to fill in, on the assumption that she would be back.
If she is ruled ineligible (like her friends from Ipswich orLogan) by being found guilty she is removed from office and replaced by ECQ under the electoral legislation – as the feathered fiend has identified.
Magpie,
A colleague of mine confirmed what I have been hearing from others, house sales are going through the roof especially at lower to middle end of price range. Most from out of town, Victorian especially Melbourne is mentioned, this correlation is with the server Covid lock downs.
My business is in the Property Industry. You are correct in so much as the local market is a little heated. As always, when it heats up, the lower end disappears first. There are a good number of Southerners buying, however, there are far more locals also buying. It appears a shortage of rentals and the current environment of positive consumer confidence is the catalyst. Those of us in the Industry are already seeing a little slow down and expect things to taper off from here. The biggest concern is around employment opportunities.
Reckon your last point is the pivotal one. Plenty of people will buy investment properties, some will migrate because they can operate from home, (but unlikely anyone would buy to retire here, except for Maggie of course) but if there are no jobs, there is essentially no sustainable market.
Understand that the market varies due to suburb but sorry not seeing it where my house is and I am watchful as I intend to offload it as soon as I break even. Not seeing much upward movement elsewhere either. Beware of the hype especially seeing some of the flood hit areas are now coming back online adding to a depressed market.
Dave Sth, I’m not seeing much in the way of price increases, more so that properties are selling and in many cases quite quickly. Values are still well down based on pre GFC, which was way back in 2008 / 2009. Comparatively, just prior to Covid, the stock market peaked back up to the pre GFC high but has since collapsed.
Dear Electoral Commission Queensland,
I wish to lodge a complaint about an electronic billboard on the corner of Gregory St and Warburton St North Ward Townsville 4810.
Attached is a photograph of the billboard.
My complaint specifically relates to:
• WTF? I find this offensive. It is commonly known what these three letters stand for and it is not appropriate that this type of language be used on any advertising material.
• It is misleading to visually present LaborGreens as one party, by joining these two words together, as one word, when this is not the case.
• These electronic billboards are costly. When looking at https://www.greenshirtsmovementaustralia.com.au/membership, I see that they are not accepting corporate membership and individual membership is just $20 per year. With per candidate election campaign expenditure now in place, I am concerned that this type of election advertising billboard, from a little known third party, is a front to funnel money, that does not need to be declared into election campaign funds. I request that ECQ make enquiries, to follow the money, and determine where the money has come from to pay for this billboard.

Regards
Heather Laurie
Heather, maybe run around and clean up all those cars with Northern Territory stickers which say CU in the NT first? They would be more offensive, surely.
The point is that everyone is offended by something, and that is a personal choice born of background and early upbringing. As The Magpie has said elsewhere, truth is not monolithic, it is informed by our belief systems, and when those background belief systems from disparate sections of society clash (nurtured by political opposition to bipartisanship), then people are offended, on the basis that their very background is under attack … which is the point, it often is … language has always been a weapon. But again, The ‘Pie defers to Salman Rushdie’s one universal truth … no has the RIGHT to NOT be offended.
So we are all, one way or another, snowflakes.
Surely Heather must know that the Magpie is Not The ECQ, so why post here?
I also agree with the Doctor. That Northern Territory slogan is much worse than Where’s The Food Without The Fishers and Without The Farmers.
Like many others, Heather wished to publicly put her point of view here. But The ‘Pie does think she missed, or just isn’t willing to forgive, the actual play on the acronym … Where’s The Food (WTF) Without The Fishers (WTF) and Without The Farmers (WTF).
Pretty clever actually.
Are we sure that HWTTP ?
If it’s good enough for the unions to throw in millions behind Labor good enough for everyone else to throw some in the other way, might make a donation myself.
Doesn’t WTF stand for ‘Water Task Force’. LOL.
Heather the Greenshirts are a nationwide farmers movement. I don’t always agree with what they push. But it’s about bloody time our farmers stood up.
So no. They are not an unknown third party. They started in W.A. and they’ve gained a surprising amount of support. Might go donate myself. We all need a farmer and a fisherman.
At the same time?
Guess that depends on your particular taste. Surf and turf perhaps.
Water off a Peking Duck’s back, clever heather. WTF do you expect?
A gently funny departure from the shouty invective of the presidential campaign.
For those who don’t keep up with American political shorthand, that refers to Joe becoming the 46th President of the United States. Trump is known as 45, which sounds like a good description of how to end America’s misery.
And BTW, Trump tropes about Joe Biden’s age (77) coming from a 74 year old, is a bit thin … and physically, Biden ain’t no sloppy Joe.
And who really cares? We are Australia, in fact a small part of Australia – Townsville. I thought this is a blog about local issues? Trump this and Trump that, who cares, let them fight it out. And before you use the old ‘but it’s inportant to us because what happens in America affects us’, the reality is what happens in America, China, Europe affects us also. The USA is a complete freak show, out concern should be focused on the Townsville, Queensland and Can’tberra freakshows.
The Magpie will look forward to reading your exclusively Townsville blog, and is sorry you won’t be visiting here anymore, it seems you get a headache when The ‘Pie strays anywhere south of Alligator Creek. Or is amused by anything outside Patricia O’Callaghan’s shoe fetish and lipstick collection.
That’s a great idea. My own Townsville blog! Why not. It couldn’t be any worse than yours with your constant whining about the Mayor and Donald J Trump. The Astonisher or the Council monthly meeting Minutes.
Go for it.
Americana, I bet your the sort of dickwit that buys a Toyota and then writes to the manufacturer, asking why isn’t it more like a Hyundai. And I haven’t been able to see where Maggy promised an exclusively local blog. Piss off.
A,
It is relevant to us here in Townsville with a small pension and smaller investment portfolio. Trump can truly screw the international monetary system causing another recession. That affects me, and perhaps you. Trump and his like have to go!
Americana, you are funny ! Everyone knows Australia is the 51st state of the USA.
No? Really?
Hi Guys, you want fries with your cupcakes for your Halloween trick or treaten. And it is goal, not jail, and just try and get them to say ‘aluminium’. And they cannot spell the word ‘colour’.
What pisses me off is that my children and their peers cannot see any of this Yankey cultural imperialism infecting our country.
Bit of an own goal in there, Dave, off to gaol with you.
Oh alright, it was well into happy (4) hour (s).
Next you will wanting us to spell ‘ reper

The heart knows things that the mind can’t explain.

Speaking of star-crossed lovers.
Fascinating story in Brissy about a couple of gals having a bit of a bitch slap court case, with the complainant – some envious Brunhilde – being caught lying on the witness stand after saying former The Block participant Suzi Taylor assaulted her without provocation. Seems it was a set-up all along, with the magistrate reserving her decision until next week. Nevertheless, it was a subdued Ms Taylor leaving court, with her headlights on low beam.
Good to see the Judge nipped it early.

Sorry, what?
At the end of the day the magpie can write some piss weak blog and all you semi retired self funded retireescan make comments
But Townsville has the opportunity to get rid of the worst state government and the worst premier qld has ever had ( yes I know all about red Ted but ap is very bad and I know her from city rowers In Brisbane the 80,s , there are many reasons why is is unmarried and childless , all related directly to her)
But Townsville will not. They will vote according to the union and public service decree .

Most of you are wringers and nobodies who will never change or act to try and change Townsville losers

The Magpie has a passing familiarity with certain Japanese and Tibetan verse forms, but can’t quite pin this one down, Realist.
Someone previously noted that a number of new, deranged, and disruptive contributors are probably pre-election political party trolls. The realist probably is.
The Realist, I am curious. What great town of opportunity do you come from. And what are your involvements in making it so great for generations to come? You seem very learned in the ways of Voting and we wish for you to share your knowledge.
No we don’t. The Magpie likes a good joke any time, but decided when loaded with about 20 incoherent comments from our man, that the joke had worn too thin and thus The Realist has been subject to, borrowing a CIA term the extreme prejudice of delete heaven.
The wingers put in a real effort this year. The halves pairing just did not get them enough ball.
This is unfair – all the commenters here are very generous when it comes to giving opinions.
And in understandable English.
Agree with the tone of his comments. Townsville continues to elect ALP flunkies

Or given the responses so far, better, not worse. Cannot understand how so many regulars have taken him seriously enough to make earnest answers. Anyway, it’s over now, otherwise we will be entering the despicable realm of mocking the afflicted.
I read this blog regularly and am getting a good laugh out of the incoherent musings of The Realist.
Obviously I don’t fit the mould for the Magpie blog (as decreed by Realist) because I’m employed full time in my own business.
But be assured I’ll be putting Labor last on my ballot because they have done nothing to curb local crime and will continue to go soft on kiddy crims if they win the election.
My gut feeling is that (unfortunately) Labor will retain government despite losing all three Townsville seats.
I wonder what The realist is like in person? Anything like on this blog and he (I assume he) would be less than ideal company. Perhaps he is afflicted with ‘friendlessness’.
The Allegedly Files
Regulars will be aware of The ‘Pie’s war on certain words being misused in the Townsville Bulletin (and elsewhere), particularly ‘allege’ and its derivatives. On most occasions, the Bulletin’s mistaken use of the word is just superfluous, galling but harmless, simply idiotic. In this almost illiterate paper, The ‘Pie has read ‘the alleged body’ and ‘the alleged collision’ etc – it is a word chucked at everything to do with courts and police in the mistaken belief that it is invariably a legal shield (in many instances, it isn’t) should the paper be sued or otherwise involved in any subsequent action.
But reporter Madura McCormack has taken this ignorance of basic English to a new level in today’s Astonisher in this story.
Ms McCormack makes a public fool of herself when she pens this opening paragraph.
‘Alleged involvement’? What are you suggesting , Madura? In accepted terms of everyday English, you are saying that Jenny Hill possibly was not present, or somehow not involved in the collision? Which will come as a surprise to even Clr Hill herself. Even without ‘alleged’, the sentence would in no way apportion blame or make a judgment on Clr Hill’s culpability or otherwise. By ignorantly inserting it, you suggest an impossible scenario – that maybe she had no involvement or wasn’t even there – and make a complete ninny of yourself.
FYI
allege | əˈlej |
verb [reporting verb]
claim or assert that someone has done something illegal or wrong, typically without proof that this is the case
It is alleged that the Bulletin has some sub-editors somewhere … best have a word with them, Madura, or we might have to conclude that you are an alleged journalist.
Running for President of the LGAQ just as Malcolm Roberts tabled it for a possible Senate Inquiry? There’s confidence for you.
Like the American saying of yesteryear had it, ‘when you’re being run out of town, get to the head of the mob and make it look like a parade.’ And what a great look for the deeply suspect lobby group LGAQ, electing someone who may not be able to fulfil her term. very interested in the outcome of that vote.
The woman has more hide than a brahman bull.
When did Teabag McCormack lob back into town?
There is no dispute that the Mullet was involved.
Interesting the Jenny Hill wears glasses in most of her recent photos. I wonder if she always wears them when she drives?
Kerry: that may actually be a very important issue. I recall when I first renewed my drivers licence wearing glasses for the first time; I was informed that when a licenced driver has prescription glasses; they are REQUIRED to attend the licencing centre and have this recorded and entered onto their licence.
Also the optician is obliged to inform their patient of this very sensible and reasonable statute.
I can recall when I first started driving with specs. that my once clear vision was seriously degraded in the peripherals.
Townsville City Council has the second highest debt per revenue of Councils in Queensland . Highest crime , some of the highest youth unemployment along many failed policies and a Council holding back future cities projects . The City is navigating thru the biggest disruption since the depression so when the City needs full focus our Mayor thinks she can add value to other Councils by applying to become President of LGAQ where she is currently a board member .
Seems the local background would make her an ideal candidate for a cowboy outfit like the LGAQ.
So the conceited one is hoping to knock Jabba the Hut off his perch and become queen of the LGAQ! What a joke. One gravy train to the next. Surely she won’t, after all she accepted a nomination to run for Mayor of Townsville for 3 years. Why bail already? Hmmmm, me smells many many goodies in the ratepayers trough and this greedy little piggy wants more!
‘Fraid the joke’s on you, Scraps … The Mullet is running for ‘President’, Hallam is the CEO and will still be calling the shots, and continue running his own race without too much reference to the board. And a pointof corder … LGAQ President is mainly a ceremonial appointment, and does not affect the holder’s day job.
Beyond having to spend all that time deciding what to spend the extra money on. I suspect the position also comes with a number of paid add on board positions with associated entities.
Lovely work if you can get some.
Thanks for clearing that up Magpie. Therefor nothing changes with the Mullet and it’s an irrelevant story and a waste of bandwidth. Which ironically describes the Mullet herself. It also shows the arrogance these politicians have, seeking additional relevance and authority even though she could face a jail sentence if the crash investigation goes against her. Wankers
It does come with a nice financial bonus however
Jenny Hill’s business-as-usual attitude in the face of such a serious charge is intriguing considering that 99.4% of people charged with the same offence spend time in the slammer.
Could it be that she has done a deal?
She’s good at doing deals you know.
Just ask Got’em Adani, Carey Ramm and Jamie Durie.
Would appear that the Bruvvas at the CMEFU are flexing a bit a pre election muscle by shutting down a raft of Sth Qld sites. Every tower crane has been subject to a WHSQ inspection after an “anonymous” complaint.
Oh no! If they shut down cranes up here poor old Col Dwyer the crane counter will have no cranes to count. What will he do?! This spells economic doom for Townsville.
They could do the WHS inspections before smoko, based on the low level of building activity around town at the moment.
I read that Minister for Local Government Stirling Hinchliffe has announced at the LGAC conference that should Labor be returned they will be scrapping their recently introduced rule allowing the runner up to fill a council or mayoral vacancy arising within 12 months from the date of election.
Hinchliffe said mayors across the state have expressed fears that the new rule posed a risk.
“There was one element that was not raised at all during consultation and that was individuals saying that there could be a risk that someone could do physical harm to someone in order to advantage someone else,” Hinchliffe said.
“That’s what some mayors were raising … that was not an issue that had been raised before, but I respect that if that’s a genuine fear that people have raised, then that’s an issue.
LGAQ president Mark Jamieson said the runner-up rule was unfair.
“Our real concern is that it really undermines democracy,” Jamieson said.
The Magpie is not being flippant and means it literally when he said he was opened mouthed when he heard that on the TV news. An unbelievable piece of of bullshit …. without ANY doubt, brokered by the increasingly sinister LGAQ …. which basically means Hinchcliffe has drunk the LGAQ KoolAid that local agitators in Queensland would seriously considered assassination or organised physical attacks to incapacitate an elected mayor just so the runner up to take the position. This is an astounding bit of political grovelling to a particular audience, because he made this baseless claim AT THE LGAQ CONFERENCE ON THE GOLD COAST. It is an insult to all Queenslanders, a piece of craven political karma sutra policy making … dick-sucking while back-flipping. Because Hinchcliffe’s own government passed the current succession legislation just a few weeks ago! And letthe ‘Pie make the point (because you can bet no one else will) if Hinchcliffe was dog-whistling that violent aboriginal communities could consider violence as a political weapon, let him say so, but don’t tar the rest of the Queensland community with this dog-wagging-the-tail brush.
All that said, The Magpie agrees that the successjion legislation was a massive mistake to start with, and a by-election is the only reasonable way to go.
But watch out for the LGAQ, it’s an influential lobby group which has conned local government across Queensland to sign up for it’s self-interested agenda which offers absolutely no benefit that wouldn’t accrue anyway to the average ratepayer or citizen. And the last thing that shady crew would want would be someone in the line of succession who may not fall into line with it’s rorting agenda (Local Buy, LGAQ Insurance, InQueensland news site, all money grabbing scams) Remember, this is a private lobby group, with no connection of government oversight or accountability under any legislation, except laws that do not force it to be financially accountable. They cop millions in council membership which ratepayers fund for not just nonexistent benefit but actually actively detrimental gouging.
At the end of the day
You know I right. Piss week blog Townsville Maggie with splinters in his bum from the fence
Self funded retires who are all talk
All deserve DR miles as your local member
Fked me dr miles is he the best they have
Ah, got it now … after the style of e.e.cummins.
From Wikipedia:
Edward Estlin “E. E.” Cummings (October 14, 1894 – September 3, 1962), often styled as e e cummings, as he is attributed in many of his published works,[1] was an American poet, painter, essayist, author, and playwright. He wrote approximately 2,900 poems, two autobiographical novels, four plays, and several essays. He is often regarded as one of the most important American poets of the 20th century. Cummings is associated with modernist free-form poetry. Much of his work has idiosyncratic syntax and uses lower case spellings for poetic expression.
In fact I hope Dr Miles becomes your local member and Jackie trad becomes your mayor. Your blokes deserve to be lorded over by dominant women
The piss weak blog is all talk
The young women at the spotted cow will reset the the attention
‘This piss weak blog is all talk’?
Ummm … What else do you do in a blog? Oh, got it, sorry, you were looking for cat videos.
And there is the comment, ‘self funded retirees’. Next will come a comment about ‘this blog is filled with misogynists’. I think ‘The realsist’ is probably NMD or ECQ in disguise. When NMD got outed, she disappeared. When ECQ got outed as NMD, she too disappeared. Now she comes back as The realist complete with crap grammar to disguise who she is? Either that or The realist is ‘Lara’ who is trying to cover her tracks? Who knows and who cares I guess, because The realist is a complete fuckwit.
No Barmaid! ECQ & NMD are pair of lefties. This on is definitely right wing.
Interesting experience on Tuesday a solicitor husband of a alp parliamentarian turned up at a inspection of a property in Braemar street
They are looking to relocate in a few months from inner city brisbane
He appeared to be an experienced property investor
Well the house inspection is interesting
Story pops up here http://www.peterprofit.com
Is the ALP parliamentarian aware of this potential purchase?
COMMENT OF THE DAY!!!! Funny as.
Jackie Trad to Townsville I am calling bullshit, although the doctor’s house is a nice house.
Its all about TCC
The ALP is preparing for a dire situation and the a worst possible result in respect to the Mayors issue
They do not want Dishhead and Palmer to get a foot in , The TCC will have issues and an administrator will be appointed for a year of so . They need a ALP person but some one independent of Townsville . If Ms Trad is there for a year before she will fit right in . The ALP expect the issue to come to a crunch early 2022
Ms Trad is dining with Lancini ( he spends a lot of time these days at his penthouse in Newstead in Brisbane ) in the Healy room at Tattersalls club in Brisbane on Friday to start the process of becoming local and perhaps join the Cowboys Board and Board of the Cowboys club Ltd
That’s an almost plausible theory, but The Magpie will stick his neck out here and suggest that not even Townsville voters would fall for that bit of cynical political engineering. But then, looking at the past voting results …..
There is no doubt Ms Trad has lost her seat .
Young ALP members are ceasing campaigning their Saturday and relocating to Mansfield to try and hold it . No more resources will be spent on South Brisbane
Mansfield is marginal and has a ALP member widely considered a witch in ALP circles . It will be a struggle for them to hold it
Resources will also be directed to a seat near Bribie where ALP are also struggling
Kaiser is planning for the future and that future is a rebuild in North Quuensland starting with Trad and Townsville
If that is Kaiser’s Kunning Plan, he should turn around and retrace his career path, looking for the marbles he clearly lost on the way.
I doubt Kaiser will get a foot hold in Townsville.
This part of the State is Dolan Hayes country, Mike needs to remember who clips the tickets in this town.
Dolan still needs to get his mate Prins on the CEO chair at TCC.
The State government has two precedents to appoint an administrator to a council where a Mayor encounters difficulties Ipswich & Logan
Ms Trad can steady the ship and marshal the troops and local support then set away and into the preferred option as Senator for North Queensland
Sharper minds than us are at work
That’s a tad insulting isn’t it? If the minds that conjured up this fairyland are sharper than us, then you judge us to be morons. Oh, wait a sec, let’s see, Jenny Hill re-elected, Aaron Harper elected, the preening Mike Captain Snooze Reynolds allowed to wallow in the trough for so long, the slowly and obviously disintegrating Tony Mooney elected for a final terms, Tanti gets up for the Midget Movement Party … yeah, OK, you have a point.
Are we getting a tunnel through Castle Hill?
Nope, can’t touch it, it’s a sacred site of the traditional owners, the Gullibilibro people.
Brisbane media running story that trad is set to lose south Brisbane and move to Townsville to become senator for North Queensland
Buying a flash joint on castle hill
You are getting what you deserve
Not So Realist, your grammar has improved slightly today. Obviously you haven’t pulled your first cone or drank your first bottle of goon this early in the morning? You haven’t enlightened us with any new info as we already to know Trad is on the nose and could lose her seat. As for relocating to Townsville permanently, unlikely. A horse likes to stay close to the trough and by moving to Townsville she would be slightly distanced from her chums in Brisbane city.
Although that, if she heads a Labor senate ticket, does leave open the tried and true ‘Brisbane’s representative in Townsville’ role so beloved of our other Labor politicians down the years. Get the seat, and grace Townsville with her presence maybe three or four times a year.
Very true Magpie. By owning a palace in Townsville she can ‘loan’ it out to friends throughout the year and drop by herself from time to time. I imagine there would be some nice travel and overnight allowances also? I’m not an expert on all of the ‘financial benefits’ that Politicians and bureaucrats forge themselves on but it is substantial.
perhaps she is more sober or has taken the correct amount of medication?
PS, I am desperately hopeful of becoming a self-funded retiree. Or just self-funded, or just a retiree.
“She” being the Realist, not Trad
On Seven News last night they had vision of Jenny Hill at the Local Govt conference. The look on her face when she realised she was being videoed should have turned milk sour.
has grumpy changed his handle to the realist?
inquiring minds want to know.
ld
Far more class than that, you moron.
Of course, The ‘Pie totally agrees … but that’s damning yourself with faint praise a bit, isn’t it? Who hasn’t?
Jackie Trad would simply not be welcomed in Townsville. We have enough of our own issues without someone of her (debatable) calibre bringing in more substantial baggage. I can’t see her getting a Senate ticket, even though she was cleared of corruption there is a lot of ‘smoke’. Mind you, there is a side of me that would like to see her go head to head with the ‘good’ Jackie (Lambie) !
We already have Jackie Trad Lite in our mayor. But she would definitely get a seat on the Hospital Board.
True, how true. The hospital board, aka the last post for discharged Labour discharge.
‘good’ Jackie Lambie. Yup. You only need to read a little to learn what sort of gutter mouth she has.
https://www.abc.net.au/news/2020-10-20/former-jacqui-lambie-staffer-unfair-dismissal-claim/12785664
The is no denying her language and propensity to publicly discuss her private life (and lamentably her ‘privates’) are issues she needs to address. However, The ‘Pie has watched her slowly grow into the job, at least publicly becoming somewhat more thoughtful – not a hard achievement given the low starting bar – and making coherent arguments as to why she will or will not support various bills. This is neither an endorsement or a disparagement of any of her policy stands, but Jacqui Lambie is a classic case of the role changing the person, rather than her early attempts at making the person change the role.
No matter what level of training she gets to keep her mouth shut more often, Lambie is a classless peasant who is testament to the fact the Senate is a disgraceful representation of the democracy of this country.
That makes her your average Aussie politician, doesn’t it?
I think Pat Coleman has come out of the closet with a different superhero suit on. Pat thinks he’s a realist.
Nope, no way. realist’s comments are way too short by a factor of 10, without Pat’s obligatory 7 or 8 links. besides, Pat’s grammar is OK if you accept his stream of consciousness style.
Dear ‘Pie,
I am out of town at the moment. Will you be attending the magistrate’s court on the 30th of October to keep the Nesters informed?
The outcome will be posted here as soon as the Bulletin puts it up … so sometime around Nov 5.
Dave, somehow I think it will make the media no matter where you are.
I am not sure what you are expecting . The issue is very serious and the Mayor position is somewhat dire.
It is known in Brisbane that she has engaged a top rated criminal Barrister Andrew Boe not a QC but should be , and a large entourage of assistants . Well known for his work for Ivan Milat and Palm Island group .
His first act was to request a transfer of the case to Brisbane to ensure that the
Mayor receives due process ( previously known as natural justice)
Accordingly that day will be procedural rather than sensational
Correct. The generally legally ignorant media up here seem to think there will be fireworks of some sort, but from the sensationalist point of view, it will be a damp squib. The Magistrate will have no choice but refer the matter of this nature to a higher court for argument about location of future hearings. And the mayor is almost certain not enter a plea on that day. The ‘Pie agrees that any trial would most certainly have to be moved … it would be an hilarious process watching jury selection of 12 of Jenny’s ‘peers’ from the Townsville roll. For quite opposite reasons, an array of the local yokelry would falling all over themselves to get a seat. There’d be blood on the jury room floor should it come to a trial.
Surely Boe, a preening show pony of modest ability in The ‘Pie’s opinion, would surely consider seeking a ‘judge only’ trial anyway.
Another tricky question, for which The ‘Pie can find no precedent … because the mayor was ‘working’ at the time of the accident – generally, travelling to work is considered work for insurance purposes – the TCC insurance will no doubt foot the humungous legal bill for any trial – in other words, ratepayers will be indirectly affected by the financial side of this. However, here is the most interesting addendum to that question: should the mayor be found at fault and have penalties imposed, does the council insurance then become null and void and the mayor have to find her own costs? her former mate, Pisasale does not offer a precedent, because his offending was out and out criminal, so he would not – as far as The ‘Pie can make out – be covered by his council.
I share your view of Boe – and his missus. All snap and crackle, but fuck-all pop.
What’s his wife got to do with it? If she isn’t mpart of the professional question, you know the rules, Grumpy.
He is no longer married to the magistrate now in Sydney with a hot female filmmaker
Then her mention has no relevance here, thank you, Grumpy.
A good point about the insurance , but I am not sure it will extend to this incident , although maybe partly and not totally , it is a criminal charge and most insurance policies don’t cover any criminal issues but lets see . The only similar case I can think of is James Black and his ASIC issues over ABC learning , the insurance policy had a cap and he had to settle when the cap was reached
Boe may be a show pony but he is a favourite of the Judiciary , they know that any case he presents is fact and he has a reputation for presenting the facts ( disclaimer he has represented me and he is my go to Barrister) ( his book is very good)
I am thinking this will be a unprecedent trial and there will be many twists and turns
The ‘Pie’s knowledge of Boe in person was the Palm Island rioters matter, but have followed other matters to form a possibly unfair judgement. We’ll see.
Mea culpa for the wifey crack. I have known Boe since the1970s, when he had long, glossy black hair and carted around a motorcycle helmet. I was surprised when he came to prominence some years ago as I never thought him that talented. Mind you, in those days he was competing against contemporaries such as that flawed genius Shane Herbert.
you know you are all gagging for it from her and her dominate alp feminist mates
I think you’ve been gagging on a large goon bottle again. Fucktard
Are you still here? As you are, are you afflicted by friendlessness?
Christ, Dave, don’t encourage him … for every published comment from him, here are half a dozen that don’t make it. His amusement value is wearing thin.
Sorry.
I think I have broken the code!
Anagram of The Realist is Stealthier or Earthliest.
Now back to my nap.
There also The Arsei, the deadly foes of the Jedi Knights.
NSW Government Minister Shelly Hancock is going to suspend Central Coast Council and appoint and administrator as they can’t even pay their staff! Although not connected it does make you wonder what Townsvilles true financial status is and whether such a thing could occur here? After all it is a tin pot town buried knee deep in shit thanks to successive incompetent Council’s and one particular Redneck V8 driving bogan Mayor.
as usually the piss weak blog maintained by and for the self funded retirees whingers of Townsville engages in censorship and judgement .
dont write anything they don’t like they will edit or delete it
we live in the shit can city of Townsville not communist Russia
although perhaps they just caught understand independent and original thoughts and ideas
i hope trad lords it over all of you whingers
go back to your genertic support groups and seek some meaning
Townsville was always better when Mooney was fiddling
in order:
you bet it does
don’t write crap or it won’t be published
Perhaps ‘they’ can’t understand your grammar
Never left it … it’s called The Magpie’s Nest
Yes. But being better than we are now wouldn’t be a tall order.
at the end of the day piss weak blogs should not even be allowed in a shit can city like Townsville
self funded retirees have fkd the tax system and made cycling impossible on the strand
and its to hard to get a schooner at the club because they are all queued up with their discount cards making silly chit chat about the weather , “ohhh its hot today”
well fkd me grandpa its Townsville , it will be hot tomorrow
Christ, mate, you’ve got more issues than The Womens Weekly. Is there anything … ANYTHING you’re happy about … apart from being allowed to rant on the piss weak blog.
Unhappy with tcc. Unhappy with federal government hecs is to high. Penalty rates abolished dislike over funded fat self funded negative geared baby boomers who have an answer for everything but do nothing
Dislike. Bloggers and opinionated know it all’s that don’t consider my valid opinion
Wonder why that is? still haven’t named anything you’re happy about.
Don’t think there is anything
I like young African women so I suppose I am happy with our student immigrant program
That’s creepy as.
Realist. You are entitled to your opinion. I am entitled to dismiss it as the faecal matter produced by a disturbed mind. Now, bugger off before my SMSF puts up your rent.
OK Karen,
From my perch at the Seaview, I have watched dozens of scooter riders mist of which look underage and/or not wearing a helmet and/or doubling.
sadly, the inevitable awaits.
The scooters are slow as. Not an issue on the Strand. Much better than skateboards, pushbikes and non-orange scooters. They are big and stable and giving a lot of pleasure to a lot of people. Gets kids out of the house away from PCs. Easy to ride for little kids or adults. If they need a helmet for safety then so do joggers.
Finally we get something in this town that is remotely good for locals and tourists and you lot treat it worse than a pandemic.
Yes Pie, I read your gripes. I’m afraid you are showing your age. You will feel younger if you go and ride one.
You do not address one single issue of concern raised in this blog about the downside to all this … and you’re going to look pretty fucking silly when the inevitable happens.
Cappuccino
According to the Neuron website, there are 16 conditions attached to “Responsible Riding”.
https://www.rideneuron.com/riding-rules/au/qld
Before you hire a scooter, you have to accept the terms and conditions, so all those parents that sign up and are allowing their kids to ride on them, have broken the conditions and will become liable for any damages caused.
Precisely, Gal. Those are virtually unenforceable conditions put in place so the company has a ‘what, who me?’ defence, but Neuron well knows that if they did the responsible thing by the community and had staff monitoring the rules, there would be no business. C In Hand says ‘Easy to ride for little kids or adults.’BUT THAT IS AGAINST THE COMPANY’S INSURANCE FORCED RULES. Another of the rules is that scooter riders must obey all road rules. How is a say 10 year old going to know the bloody road rules, muttonhead?
C In Hand then in false analogy with ‘If they need a helmet for safety then so do joggers’.
With demented statements like that, perhaps it is you, C In Hand, who needs a helmet, and don’t forget the crayons to be safe.
Personally, I like the “enclosed footwear” rule. That’s likely to negate responsibility for at least 90% of users in one go!
Wots inclosed futwear?
I’m told by a friend with under age riders, you just need a phone and a credit/debit card to sign up.
Many of the young riders you’re seeing aren’t being signed up by the parents they are signing themselves up using the app on there phones and plugging in there own card details.
Wonder how the insurance works when someone underage has signed the terms and conditions in the app.
Walking past one at lunchtime and idly thought “I wonder how hot the black handlebars are”. Now I know and will not repeat the experience. Leaving them parked in the sun and the inevitable rain here in the tropics will be a recipe for burns and rust as well as musty and mouldy helmets.
No doubt you’re right, but can’t be too fussed about that, it’s the immediate risk especially to young kids that is a very real concern.
Whoops. No LGAQ presidency for Jen.
What a surprise.
Ducks Nuts , regards the Mullets failed attempt to be President of the LGAQ just add it to the list of failed projects . 30,000 people living in the cbd , wave pool Strand , Zip line Castle Hill , Mining airstrip , the Hive ( Councils failure to agree to a lease ) , $2 mil pop up coffee shop Castle Hill the Council would receive income , the city looking like a dump . It appears the other Councils didn’t consider a Mayor with the highest debt and crime in Queensland President material .
Definitely, Mike, the LGAQ doesn’t want someone as President who doesn’t know how to rort the system with drawing attention. more on these little darlings in this week’s blog.
C’mon Mike. She delivered a bus hub, hard waste collection and well, I can’t think of anything else that wasn’t funded by the State or Federal government.
Mike that bus hub is a good bus hub. It’s spectacular. Only Jenny could have delivered us a bus hub like that.
What you say, bro? Messagebank will be miffed.
Mayor Mullet knew the possible I(and now realised) downsides to this largish bus stop, so she left the running to Les Walker. When it comes to political manipulation, outhouse rodents have nothing on our beloved mayor. Unfortunately, it would seem that Queensland traffic laws have tossed down some RatSak.
I personally think “the realist” is the greatest thing to happen on this blog. I would love to hear his views on the Freckles Curfew plan.
Ok, reasonable idea, so send us your real name and address, Last Drinks, so The Realist can personally communicate with you, obviating the need to be monitored on this blog. The attempts at humour, mildly funny in a Katter-esque sort way originally, wear a bit thin with his one-note line of abuse and spittle-flecked phlegm.
I just think it is satire of the highest order Magpie. Much needed on this blog. As for my real name and address, you know it already Malcolm.
OK, remind me, The ‘Pie is getting towards the decrepitude end of the market. Won’t hold my breath, cobber heh heh heh.
But agree up top a point, it is satirical but it’s narrow scope is hardly of the highest order. In fact, it may well be yourself.
Not me Magpie. This is sheer genius from realist.
” self funded retirees have fkd the tax system and made cycling impossible on the strand
and its to hard to get a schooner at the club because they are all queued up with their discount cards making silly chit chat about the weather , “ohhh its hot today”
well fkd me grandpa its Townsville , it will be hot tomorrow”
I think that all Self Funded retirees should named and shamed. Pink Jumpsuits. Curfews, raise the rego on Caravans by 100% and banned from Qld in the winter. You have my vote realist.
ld,
That reads like a Monty Python monologue.
Celeine? ECQ? NMD? Could be one of several fuckwits really.
I am the real deal
After today’s experience of the qld criminal system I intend to hit the drink and enjoy some banter at the spotted cow
Man punches other man
Barrister refers to it as exchange of ideas
Fkd me. Townsville is rooted if these are your intellectual leaders
Don’t tell us you snotted someone?
WARNING: The intellectually stunted and emotionally crippled who support Donald J Trump may be injured by the truth contained in the following message.
The Townsville Magpie fully endorses this clever and accurate compilation.
https://twitter.com/tribelaw/status/1318912385734873088?cn=ZmxleGlibGVfcmVjcw%3D%3D&refsrc=email
Thanks for the warning, ‘Pie. If not for that I might have watched the video and suffered serious injury.
It’s been a fun week at the Nest. Lots of good points, some banter and some downright scary comments that reflect some seriously mentally ill community members who should not have access to firearms or children. I don’t know whether it is the humidity, a Sunspot explosion or Russian agents using brain altering devices but things have gotten really weird and really interesting. More please!!!
It’s not the humidity, it’s the stupidity.
Magpie, I think the ‘realist’ is a disgruntled uni student, or ex-student saddled with a large hecs bill. Obviously too busy bemoaning the fact, instead of getting off their butt and getting some work, like so many students, to help themselves ease their hecs burden.
If true, no wonder he wants a dusky maiden’s shoulder to cry on.
They are all African queens. Love them
Queens? You seem to be in two minds.
I am a student but back doing a masters after 25 years
No disgruntled
Just disappointed that Townsville producers whingers. Intellectual in grown toe nails that manage to get jobs on the council or end up running a blog detailing the trials and tribulations of rooted city
The only good thing is drinking a sb on the strand and watching the lights of magnetic island come on as darkness creeks across another day of non achievement in the capital of north qld. Fk me. We are rooted
Any chance your Masters in English Language as she is writ?
Good with figures. Could be great with yours. The African students and half witted hairdressers at the spotted cow love that line
Silver tongue.
Basket weaving
The realist is the real deal and not any of those mentioned .
Tough day today , courts clogged with juvenile offenders who are all innocent. Just a media beat up
Can’t wait for the police to crack down on these lot the only good was a lack of self funded retirees Bitching about cost of living and
And guess what
Nobody was there because of offences on the scooters
It’s all in your mind
The brutal 4 hour cross examination of me today has shown the next time a drug affected shit can Townsville resident tries it on. I will be punching on
Townsville where even the criminals are whingers
Fk me
Touch of self incrimination there, old son?
Well Drussed of Rassmussen you asked “Wots inclosed futwear”?
Its an orrifice that is standard equipment for politicians, its called a mouth.
PS you sound like a KIWI
So let’s get this straigh , young teenagers on the loose in Townsville surburbs will get picked up and baby sat by police
As if the police will do anything. The police union was effectively outlawed all effort
I can understand why they are on the streets , because there is nothing to fking do. The clubs are full of self funded retirees talking chit chat till late at night. , then after 8 Townsville shuts and the only place to go is the spotted cow where you can be based by either a footy player or bouncer while you have a rum and coke from a can
Let’s have a BLM March down the strand and finish off with a dinner from the Seaview hotel vegan menu
FMD. The next thing this piss weak blog will want is a new state of north fking Queensland
That would be ‘last thing’, not next thing (as you would know if you were not so new to the joys of this blog). But hey, looks, if that Masters is in English, there’s a job in the tourism area of TEL. You sound just like a Dudley Do Nothing media release.
After the day I have had , I will,be happy to have 5 cs of rum and coke , get bashed by a cowboy and meet a hot half witted hairdresser
Ho hum, just another night on Via Vomitorium.
Hello all. I am Realist’s twin, the good one. I was born 45mins earlier, Realist 1 got stuck ….. I just want to say what a great blog this is and I really enjoy the information everybody shares. Thanks !
This is getting better than the movie ‘Inception’. Or maybe worse.
He is a fake
You can tell by the grammar
more like Deliverance
No I did not snot someone. Some coked up real estate agent tried to have a crack. I was strong and lodged a criminal complaint.
Charged with common assault. Day 1 of the trial that involve a 4 hour cross examination of me. Adjoined to 12/1
So more witnesses can be heard
Shit can city also has smart arse barristers that bring up crap from 2005 to test the credibility
Far better to punch on in Townsville and settle the scores in the back street
If anyone needs a line google Dakota apartments Tenerife
Damn records, keep coming back don’t they? … so who did you kill/rape/rob in 2005? And are you now just completing your masters because you were interrupted by a spell in the slammer?
No because I am fucking bored in shit can city
Thinking of opening a vegan plant based restaurant that gives discounts to self funded retirees if they dine after 9 and drink craft beer or merlot
No criminal record just a minor disclinary misunderstand
I can tell you some great merlot stories
Most of the wine experts who go to the casino ( sorry the facing ville) and rsl drink merlot
I was once engaged to a Italian model and cancelled the wedding because she wanted merlot at the wedding
Any staff who drink it at staff parties get sacked
It is the most Townsville wine in the world
I will send magpie a carton
AT LAST, A PRIME MINISTER WE CAN BE PROUD OF.
The Magpie’s heart soared today when he saw this story.

Scott Morrison’s firm and uncompromising stand on this issue now means – surely – he will be applying the same standards to Sports Rorts Minister Bridget McKenzie, to Deputy PM and Nationals leader Michael McCormack for the new Sydney Airport land rort (on his watch, the Feds paid the Liberal party donors who owned the land $30million when it valued at just $3million) and to acting Immigration Minister, Alan Tudge, whom a court found had acted ‘criminally’ by unlawfully keep a person in jail.
Yup, you can bet there’s a good old clean-out about to start. Prime Minister, you will be soon known as Go Go Scomo – better late than never.
But better do it quickly, because if you tarry, people will start using the H word … Hypocrisy.
Yes, please … you will see from this Wiki entry why The Magpie has an affinity to this grape.
“The name Merlot is thought to be a diminutive of merle, the French name for the blackbird, probably a reference to the color of the grape. Its softness and “fleshiness”, combined with its earlier ripening” …. but that’s enough.
However, best just send the requisite amount of dough through as a donation, The ‘Pie promises merlot it will be.
Realist 1 was a difficult child. Always sneaking out at night and getting into trouble. Rather than punishment, we showered Realist 1 with love and cuddles. Once, mum got bit on the arm, but as a family we stayed the course. It was a waste of time. Dad was not happy because our next door neighbours, the Kerrigans, had a holiday home at Bonnydoon and their daughter was an academic. She had a certificate in hairdressing. Anyway, Dad always said that one day Realist 1 would move to Townsville and become a great blogger. Or was that bogger? I can’t recall.
And they bough up my fucking racehorse
Unfking beliveable. .

You cant make Townsville up
At Brandy’s?
From Zomato foodie website
Brandy’s Restaurant
Coffee and Tea, Italian, Tapas
Townsville
Permanently Closed
Nope – they were B class. But I do agree with you that the recipents (and most of the QNI workers) were a success story
Realist
You are murdering both the English and French languages with your incoherent ramblings.
Amateur
Nouveau riche
I’m sure you also wanted to throw a bourgeois into a post, but had no idea how to spell that either.
Unfortunately, looking on from the verandah of his glass house, The ‘Pie is in no position to comment.
The irony of it all.
This morning I couldn’t believe my eyes.
Thursday 8.30am at peak hour at the intersection of Bayswater Road and Duckworth Street roundabout, was a gaggle of at least 3 labor supporters all pimped up in bright red matching campaign shirts, happily excited waving and wiggling big oversize boards asking for our vote to relect their local member. All standing within tramplying distance of the long line of flowers and photos of the 4 youths killed at this very spot as a ditect result of their belovered MP’s failed programmes on youth crime in Townsville.
I couldn’t believe the breathtaking lack of judgement shown in using this location to harness the hapless voters support.
Pitty I was driving otherwise I would have taken a pic.
Pie, there is an echo in your blog.
The irony of it all.

Were they keeping a safe COVID 1.5m distance from each other?
‘The realist’ has exposed his/her real self by its grammar, diatribe, incoherent ramblings and absolute hot air – definitely a local politician.
Going out tonight with the traffic reporter for a romantic dinner , I am hopping readers can giving me some dining recommendations
We are seeking a Townsville restaurant with vegan gluten-free low salt sugar free options we also love the paddock to the plate concept
And the ability to order off the menu as well as from the menu
Hoping to find somewhere with water views and in kitchen seating , quite but with a vibrant atmosphere
Will consider all budget ranges including clubs casino and food hall option
We like a drink in the bar first and it must have craft beer options with a organic wine list of both local regional and international wine
Friends have given us a list of 40 or so Townsville places that fit the requirements. Just need to narrow it down
I have the tart for desert
You have friends?
I see Tony Raggatt hasn’t lost any of his bullshiting skills, piling out some absolute crap in his latest list of projects for Townsville, half of them are fucked and have been cancelled, he even has that equestrian centre north of Townsville on the list, the bloke should be down at the Dudley’s, what a joke.
What’s the deal with the blatant Adani propaganda in the Astonisher today? Not even hiding it. The online article has a direct link to Adani on the page. Even poor old Gerry Harvey doesn’t get that kind of advertorial.
Can you please wake me when The Retardist goes away – it is spoiling my enjoyment of otherwise witty repartee.
If I want to be around objects like it, I can go to any number of waste treatment plants.
Message to Realist (sorry I mean the realist):
I’m fkn sick of apple trees dropping their apples on the ground and the alp not picking them up. Fkn fucktards you’ve only got yourself to blame. You drive around in your government cars and don’t even care about the mangoes or bananas. Townsville has itself to blame. Fkn dumb arses. The kid would’ve picked them up but you rely on the freck to pick them up. The Anna won’t touch them. She’ll get her minions to pick them up and give them to her fkn Labor mates. Your fault Townsville. The old stupid bloggers on this site can’t eat them coz they got no teeth. And why have they got no teeth? Anna and labor’s stupid policies. And that’s your fkn fault Townsville coz you won’t vote them out. The kid’s got great teeth. It’s the alp feminist mates that’s making you all gag. So anyway, leave my fkn mail and racehorse alone and don’t blame me when they pick on your record from 2005. I only snotted someone coz they didn’t have Merlot at the wedding. That’s your fault Townsville. The kid would’ve ordered Merlot .
Dear ‘the realist’, sorry about the mostly correct spelling and grammar. I know it’s not what you’re used to but the content of the comment should make sense to you.
Perfect parody, KK.
Not even close
…he said with trembling bottom lip.
To accompany their number juggling story (the core information from Peter Faulkner’s reliable research reports), some optimistic gurgling about Townsville being – FFS – a ‘boomtown’, InQueensland displayed this photograph with a caption indicated it was in Townsville.
Well, now, we certainly are a boomtown if so many of us can afford to travel down to Sydney to stand around in our masks texting mates back home. Note the phone number on the sign in the pic … ahem … that would be …
In fact, the LGAQ-backed InQueensland raises a few interesting questions itself, which The Magpie will canvass in this weekend’s blog.
Realist its pronounced cardonnay you useless chunt
There’s a lot of hysterical BS flying around the blog this week. Most of it trying to hit the wrong target. Stop shitting around you lot and FOCUS on the Qld election.
A re-elected ALP govt will condemn us to 4 more years of nothing but SE Corner centric decision making and spending!
Wake up you lot and get cracking, you turds!
TT,
Relax. Apart from informing ourselves of the major and slightly credible minor parties policies, and then voting responsibly, there is bugger all else we can do , is there?
Is The Realist Jenny Hill in disguise?
Whoever it is, they’re out to drive people away from the Magpie blog.
FFS Pie, piss him off.
The Realist’s one trick pony of satire and humour is certainly wearing a tad thin and he/she/it has never added anything substantive to our commentary and the humour is becoming very lame. So although there a couple out there who enjoy his/her/its gabble, The Realist’s contribution are now mostly deleted. But the odd one may get through.
OLTD – I agree – he sounds like an agent provocateur,, designed to swamp the blog and divert discussion.
Well, if so, that calls for a mea culpa from The ‘Pie, who initially let the first few through as a bit of light relief that allowed – talk about leading with your chin – for some fun replies. Seems it might have gone a bit too far, quite often now with five or six comments all sitting in the inbox at once from the Realist. Think it’s time for him/her/it to start their own blog … only genuinely funny contributions from that quarter will be published in future.
Thanks for that Mate
Undertaking my usual ‘look back thru the Magpie blog comments on a Saturday morning over Chorizo and scrambled eggs’ and Lo and behold I see 268 comments!! Upon closer inspection I see some clearly manufactured boofhead calling him/herself The Realist along with a coterie of your usuals replies to this Knuckleheads incandescent drivel accounts for a large swathe of this unusually high number of comments to your blog. Given the inanity and largely obscure value of content of said idjut I can only assume your letting his/her comments through in a vain attempt to hit a new comments ‘high’. Disappointingly frivolous of you Magpie if that is the case.
The ‘Pie has never taken much notice of the comment count, it is bit meaningless since he himself accounts for probably a quarter by replying or initiating his own comments. The ‘Pie of course has private back end stats that among other things monitor the graph changes for the blog, and he tries to judge what is of the most interest to readers – not to exclude anything (why have a blog if you self censor) but to prioritise subject matter. Hence his genuine personal loathing of Donald Trump and all he stands for (or doesn’t stand for) is usually documented in cartoon form at the END of each blog, because the point of difference for the Magpie’s Nest lies in it’s local content. He is also aware that there is a goodly chunk of the readership who aren’t avid supporters, anything but, and that problem gets worse around times of election through trolls.
Devoting more than 50 hours a week over the full seven days to compile and manage the blog and comments, juggling limited resources that hold back technical improvements to the product, may be mostly fun(ish), but certainly not frivolous. The blog has had its effective moments … inter alia, it was the first to raise the Adani airstrip rort, was alone in publicising Senator Malcolm Roberts recent expose of the shady side of the LGAQ, News Ltd’s disgusting glamorising of criminals, and even this week, as you will read tomorrow morning, has been instrumental in revealing information that has led to an executive resignation, not even mentioned in or known to the Astonisher. As well as the underlying mission of exposing the woeful disservice the venal Townsville Bulletin inflicts on this community. If those matters, and a few laughs along the way, are not worth a reader’s consideration, the remedy is in their own hands.
No apologies for any of the above, just an explanation.
Pie, And after the 50 or so hours a week, you probably have to fit in a round of golf and clear your head of some of the shit you have to read.
I think the lnp has won all three Townsville seats
Today is the 35 million dollar AFL grand final in Brisbane the premier is attending and will be swaying around with all the celebrities
The whole thing is an election stunt and apparently the ALP was hoping the Brisbane lion made it and won it just to get extra kick
I was at at Lnp lunch two weeks ago with a few very very very influential LNP types .the plan then was to counter the stunt was for Deb to be in Townsville at a work site
That was the media optics was Anna at play Deb at work kind of thing
But now cancelled. Not sure where Deb is but I feel they thing Townsville has been conquered
I still can’t believe the qld governement invested 35 million in the AFL That alone Tells me this is the worst government we have ever had
Regional Queensland has turned on the state government
Apparently ALP polling indicates support is deteriorating daily .
That explains the second Bruce Highway though bubble
Next week expect ALP to return to its strength. Health & Education
I predict announcements about Townsville and Cairns hospitals and expansions of JCU into cairns for foreign students and excellence high schools for Nq
I e. Specialist high schools for alleged gifted students
Grace grace and Stephen miles to visit both Townsville and cairns with a stop at Hervey Bay either up or back
Also announcement about NQ racing
Wow wow wow
Your readers are very informed. Ms Trad did dine at Brisbane Tattersalls Club on Friday for a 90 minute lunch.
She was with two business looking gents
I was a couple of tables away and couldn’t hear very well. I am not a Townsville resident so I may not of understood context or relevance
I am sure your readers will

Waiter, a grain of salt, please.
Tft,
Very interesting. Can you authenticate your story without breaking cover?
Thank heavens we’ve got the Daily Astonisher, the paper has now, after five years, confirmed our niggling suspicions with this ‘exclusive reveal’ … actually publicly available official police stats.
Most appropriate that just above the screaming headline is a picture of a bull about to defecate.
