But you’ll be waiting forever to hear, because the real cost of bringing sublebrity US moaner Jason Bradley DeFord, aka Jelly Roll, to Townsville will be hidden behind a commercial in confidence deal with the promoter. There is little doubt Townsville Enterprise dipped into their million dollar stash to get Mr Roll to do a stadium show here. The cost of bread and circuses was never cheap, as The Magpie ponders this showcase of unhealthy-looking half-baked goods.
But TEL also have another financial question to dodge … are they actually paying the cruise lines to come here? Is the state government involved? What data justifies this suspected raid on the taxpayer dollar?
The week’s tragedy in Victoria has sharpened the focus on the company our suspended pustule of a mayor is keeping.
It wouldn’t be our weekly Nest without some entertainment from the Daily Astonisher.

Jelly Wrestling: It’s Slippery Stuff
What a week of wobbly, jiggling bullshit we’ve been treated to about the surprise concert by someone called Jelly Roll. The Bulletin hyperventilated about ‘the pressure of fan power‘ being responsible for the supposed ‘late inclusion’ of Townsville on the singer’s short Down Under tour. Townsville Enterprise patted itself on the back, saying, ‘we called, and Jelly Roll listened’ (as if), and LNP minister for the Olympics Tim Mander had a bit of a gush, saying “It’s events like these that we want to attract in the lead up to the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games, showcasing Queensland as Australia’s home of major events.”
It seems everyone had their take on why we are to be honoured with the presence of Mr Roll , an unsavoury looking tattooed Jenny Craig nightmare , complete with the obligatory backwards baseball cap, who specialises in wrist-slitting dirges. Which may well account for his current 15 minutes of fame in this dystopian world of 2025. And yes, in answer to the inevitable question, in the service to his readers, The ‘Pie forced himself to listen to his four most popular songs, a duty from which The ‘Pie is now almost recovered without having to resort to assistance from Beyond Blue. But look, if Mr Roll fills the stadium and everyone has a good time, that is great news, The ‘Pie’s personal taste is neither here nor there – it certainly won’t be there at the asking ticket prices (Townsville bring the dearest by quite a margin).
But let’s put to rest the patronising Bulletin lie about fan power and any notion TEL harbours of its ‘effective advocacy’ in the matter. While the state government, TEL and the Bulletin make their claims to this coup, each suggesting Townsville is some sort of emerging entertainment magnet, the answer no one has mentioned is the real one … money. And a hefty wad at that.
The simple geographic fact is that Townsville is a long way from any large urban mass, so bringing any event here is understandably going to cost more than a move between adjacent major centres – big time more. So just who ponied up the readies to the promoter to get Mr Roll up here? In the end, the generic answer is the taxpayers, but we should be entitled to know if the LNP government chucked in, or did TEL do a deep dive into the gifted million or so that the council flick passed from the Government events slush fund? Or all of the above.
It is certain that if TEL could claim credit, they would, God knows they do about so much else that is nothing to do with them. But they are remarkably low key about it.
It would be great fun to sit in on a brain-storming session with Major events manager Chelsea Cavanah and eclectic Major Events Advisory Panel (MEAP) she advises. The range of entertainment experience would make for interesting suggestions, but yet again, we run into an accountability problem with anything to do with TEL. Of course, we can’t know of negotiations before an possible event, but we will never know what was tried that failed or succeeded. Even if it is our money they are spending.
But There Is One Matter That We ARE Entitled To Know About
It’s a simple question, and if TEL were of a mind, it could be a simple answer: does TEL pay the cruise line companies to include Townsville stop overs in their east coast itinerary? It is a sure thing that Brumme-Smith will never allow us to know the answer, because if she did, we would then be entitled to know on what data she justifies such negative expenditure. Highly selective quotes from scattered, cherry-picked interviews is NOT data, and the economic value of these visits is wide open to conjecture. And so are the experiences of the few passengers that come ashore. Anecdotal evidence suggests this is a misguided program that promotes civic embarrassment and negative takeaways for passengers.
Perhaps the Olympics minister Tim Mander might tell us if the state government helps promote these visits, most likely with. a waiver of Port fees for the boats. Or paying for buses to meet passengers to take them into the CBD or to the Strand – at $10 a ticket.
Surely the Townsville business community is entitled to know how their interests are being managed, and since we’ll never know from the Townsville council, TEL should at least be subject to reasonable KPIs. Alas, it seems Walker Street isn’t the only Hermit kingdom our city operates under.
When Eccentrics Stop Being Funny And Turn Deadly
The tragic and cowardly events in Victoria during the week seem a distant situation to Townsville an North Queensland, but we would be foolish to think that this sort of lunacy won’t spill over into violence here. The deeply detached sovereign citizen movement, increasingly embraced in regional Australia, is alive and well in Townsville.
It is now indisputable that the sov cits of the MyPlace group have been backing con man Troy Thompson, hoping to get a foothold in the Townsville Council in the manner in which they have disrupted such local bodies in Tasmania, Victoria and even have had members elected to councils here in Queensland.
These Thompson boosters weren’t shy about showing their allegiance during a Strand outing in July last year, looking particularly pleased with themselves because their man was mayor at the time
In among this mob is local MyPlace co-leader Jeanie Zonta, (in the t-shirt, we think); NQ Freedom Network’s Mark Batty, who organised the video interview in which Thompson blatantly lied about his military non-history; and although not positively ID’d, the Batman dingbat of recent embarrassment, Andrew Watts. Also hard to positively identify in there is one Tina Picot, described to The ‘Pie as ‘a rabid Troy supporter and active MyPlace nitwit’. Perhaps one of the more disturbing lurkers around Townsville is Jeanie Zonta’s partner Peter Rogers, who is not depicted (maybe taking the photograph).
Rogers was, just like Troy Thompson, dumped by One Nation’s when he was its Mulgrave candidate in 2017, after he posted on social media that the Port Arthur massacre was fabrication, and that a graphic picture of a Syrian toddler drowned at sea was fake. Plus a lot of other demented odorous nonsense.
Now to be clear, The Magpie has no knowledge of any crimes committed or planned by anyone in the photograph or those people named, but the movement they belong is steadily moving towards violent action. So if any of them call around for a friendly cuppa, make sure to keep them away from the knife draw.
Now It Certain ThatThere Is Walker Street No Return for Troy Thompson, What Next? Could It Be Joe’s Show?
Having now repeated his statement that Troy Thompson as mayor is ‘untenable’ – a word so strong it would be impossible politically or morally to go back on – Premier David Crisafulli now has to act to show the sincerity of his professed distress for Townsville. He has also more than once said he wants to see a return of leadership to the council, a sentiment that must put Meter Maid Greaney’s granny pants in a knot. So he is clearly left with but two options – administration or a mayoral by-election.
Administration as an option cannot be dismissed, especially in view of the (possibly illegal) call-in powers delegated to the CEO. There is a possibility that the neutered councillors can stay on collecting their pay for a reduced role – seems to be a Townsville thing, doesn’t it? – while Joe McCabe runs the city. A sort of administration light by a timorous government.
But if Crisafulli is adamant that Thompson is sidelined no matter what the financial consequences, there is nothing to stop him calling a by-election. And won’t that be an eager, fun field.
There have been a couple of interesting moments in comments during the week, one suggesting that businessman Michael Kopitke might run, but he definitively ruled out a run for mayor or even council when The’Pie asked him the question last year. He was quite insistent he would be a non-starter , so not sure anything has happened to change his mind.
A bit of overall speculation about a possible field would seem to be timely about now. Molachino would definitely be a starter, having noticeably lifted his public profile in the paper of late. David Kippin may have an ill-advised go, no doubt at the urging of wannabe backroom shogun and social dinosaur Max Tomlinson. Doubt Suzy B would put her hand up because of her young family, to which she is understandably putting ahead of any bid for a more intrusive public office. The interesting entrant if he decides to take a shot is Andrew Robinson, he’s put a few shekels in the electoral piggy bank with his articulate leadership on a number of issues, and his Disaster Management position. The politically bizarre Guy Reece has said he’ll have a go just to be nuisance value … well, it’s his deposit. And way to early for Mooney Jnr, and not sure if Paul Jacob would risk a run after the back knifing he got when ousted from the acting position.
The ‘Pie hasn’t mentioned good citizen Harry Patel it seems a bit redundant to say so; saying Harry will be having a go is a bit like saying the sun comes up in the east.
The most interesting idea came from regular reader Kenny Kennet, whom posted this comment:
Another person looking for a job is outgoing Cowboy’s CEO Jeff Reibel. Likeable fella and very experienced business person who knows Townsville. Good leader, understands numbers and people and unlike TwoNames, has proper University qualifications. How about throwing your Cowboy hat in the ring, Jeff?
An interesting question for which the ‘Pie invites an informed answer … can a councillor stand for the mayoralty in a by-election, and still retain his council seat if he/she loses?
And The ‘Pie fully expects Ann-Maree Greaney will decline to run, explaining she is so devoted to looking after her divisional constituents with parking meters on the Strand and inappropriate sludge dumps on Maggie Island, where she has gained the status of folk hero. ‘It would be a shame to be distracted by the wider responsibilities of the mayoral office, and besides, I’ve done nothing to deserve it, I haven’t an original thought in my head about taking the city forward,’ she may be planning to say. Or maybe not.
Bulletin iditor Poulson Puts On Her PR Hat …
…and raises more questions about the role of the paper. Now a bit of genteel boosterism will always be around the op-ed page, but it would be good if the iditor read her own paper before gushing. This from Friday’s Astonisher editorial.
OK, mildly harmless twaddle under normal circumstances, which completely ignores the fodder of mayhem the paper regularly feeds it dwindling readership. But a stupid look if just centimetres away on the same page, one of the letters to the editor tended to cut to the brutal truth, containing this brutal but accurate summary.
It wouldn’t be quite so bad if the paper actually made a campaign of grilling the local LNP MPs about Crisafulli’s empty boasts about reducing crime, instead of offering an ‘emperor’s new clothes’ view denying the reality of our violence beset home.
But there will be no such campaign of accountability, because that would involving asking questions … and that would mean leaving the email inbox for media releases, or social media searches to beat up a story about little snot suffering some unpronounceable ailment.
Or giving us truly pointless stories like this excuse to revisit some dark violemce of the past.
And this is a paper that doesn’t seem to mind being exactly wrong.
Lebanese Descendant Bobah Khatari Threatens To Punch Immigration Officials If They Mention The ‘L’ Word
A descendant of a Lebanese storekeeper, Mr Khatari, who has anglicised his name to Bob Katter, went wildly of script at a news conference when asked about immigration policy. “These blokes need a good punch to the face to wake up to themselves, they’ll let anybody in nowadays. What next, bloody terrorists from the middle east pretending to general storekeepers? We all know these buggers have been touched upstairs by too much sun.” Mr Khatari said in his usual giggly squeak , adding ‘Such people are well known to irrationally fly of the handle because they can’t carry a logical argument … and they love guns. They have no place in an Australian democracy.. And most of them can’t speak English proper.’
He also decried such immigrants as just wanting to have big families, so they could eventually take over the place.
Asked how he would decide who should be deported, Mr Khatari said he’d start with ‘bloody reporters who ask racist questions about my Lebanese ancestry. ’ He then stormed off, saying it was time to feed his camels.

Just About Everybody Can Identify With This Castaway.
And this one’s for troy Thompson.
…………….
That’s it for another week. You can help with Nest costs using the donate button below.

Slow news week? The first two stories are just speculation about TEL maybe paying musicians and cruise ships.
Someone’s has to ask the questions. But yes, relatively quiet at the moment, but it’s a but like that ominous silence justb before the kettle boils …. everything seems on hold until the TwoNames matter is decided.
For some reason, perhaps the same as the Q government, you are avoiding the obvious third, or do-nothing, option – extend the mayoral suspension. Cheap, effective and painless.
… and leave us with no real leadership.
Good thinking, Batman. Or Troy, maybe.
However, Pie, serious question here. The handling of the Townsville Mayor “situation” is not being driven autonomously by the Minister for local government. What might happen if David Crisafulli gets rolled?
Magpie, the Premier cannot call a by-election unless he removes the mayor from office. What’s the use of speculating about potential mayoral candidates when it is not clear that there is viable slam dunk mechanism to create that vacancy, let alone a politically positive process which ratepayers would back? I don’t think it is as straightforward as you suggest.
What’s the point of having a whinge about a hypothetical list of candidates for a hypothetical mayoral election? With incomprehensible gabble about “a politically positive process which ratepayers would back?” What does that even mean.? Are you suggesting the ratepayers would not back the sacking Thompson by any means available and electing a new mayor?
Some time, ages ago, the Q government asked the Mayor to show cause why he shouldn’t be dismissed. Apparently he wrote them a Dear John (or Steve and later Kiddo) and since then; nothing.
They can’t think of a good reason that will stand upon law. I’d say ratepayers would only accept an outcome which was quick, quiet and inconsequential.
Starting to fret whether you’ll get any money, Troy?
Or they could nail him on the fake end-stage oesophageal cancer claims. Would take time to access records, but once disproven it’d be game over. As we have seen, the community responds with revulsion to this type of deceiption. Particularly if used for percuniary advantage. I recall the minister at the time of his suspension mentioning something along the lines of private and sensitive issues…goddamn it if I can find a link now all these months later, but it did make me wonder. If each and every one of his claims are thoroughly investigated with equal weight given, how he will avoid any criminal charges is beyond me. Doing nothing is not an option.
Just when did subsidising concert and V8 tickets, and filling hotel rooms become the responsibility of ratepayers and taxpayers?
The Jelly Roll deal is a real mystery, and not only because we’ll never know how much of our money was donated.
An equally important question is where the Townsville Bulletin editor got the idea there was massive support for a Jelly Roll gig.
When Townsville was chasing a Pink concert, thousands of fans indicated their support in Townsville Bulletin comments and a petition, but Jelly Roll didn’t rate a petition, and attracted just 6 positive comments (of a total of 13) in 2 TB stories.
Could it be that the editor, who led the campaign with a gushing editorial, and new TEL events guru Chelsea Cavanah are devoted Jelly Rollers?
Just asking.
LOSING THE NIGHT: HOW EXCESSIVE LIGHTING HAS STOLEN PICNIC BAY’S CHARM!
There’s something uniquely special about early morning and evenings at Picnic Bay – or at least there used to be. Here in the quiet seaside village where people have grown to cherish the the soft transitions between day and night along the esplanade since the ferry moved. The gentle glow of stars, the sound of waves lapping the shore and the first golden rays of sunlight spilling across the water, These are the simple pleasures that define life here.
But recently the council has installed excessive new floodlighting along the entire esplanade and the impact has been overwhelming – frankly heartbreaking.
The new lights blaze with an intensity that would suit a major city thoroughfare, not a sleepy island village. It’s no exaggeration to say that midnight looks like midday.
Gone is the low lit ambience that made an early morning walk or a sunset drink under the banyan trees feel like something sacred. The magic of watching the ferry lights shimmering across the moonlit waters whilst dining at the restaurant has been washed away by the harsh glare of floodlights. Locals and visitors are now greeted with artificial daylight from dusk till dawn.
This isn’t the Burke St Mall. This isn’t Cavill Avenue in Surfers Paradise. It’s Picnic Bay and after ten pm it’s practically deserted. The aggressive lighting doesn’t just impact people either. Our local nocturnal wildlife – birds and tree dwelling mammals that live in the trees must be utterly confused. The natural cycle of light and dark – a fundamental rhythm of life has been shattered. We are not asking for darkness, but balance practical modest lighting. Not a corridor of constant brightness that sterilises the entire night
But Bert, the esplanade is set to become party central again with the Picnic Bay Hotel redevelopment.
It’s troubling to think what this Council is likely to get up to without public supervision. Mainlanders should be just as worried.
When the Forts redevelopment proposal went on public exhibition, it was a shocker. They had the MOST extraordinary floodlighting proposed; like you expect to see on a major freeway development. This is a site that is deserted after sunset.
We got a retired architect on the island to kindly redo the site plans. What’s there today is closely modelled on his version, not Council’s.
Clarabelle. Are you saying it’s the council’s idea to turn the esplanade into party central, or is the foreign aid fat- cat owner of the pub who lives in the bright lights of Dubai idea?
Clarabelle
What we ended up with The Forts car park redevelopment, is the Shocker.
Millions of taxpayer dollars spent to have 4 extra car parks FFS.
It was a missed opportunity.
As for your group ‘We’ you are such a busy lot, ready to object to everything.
Suppose it keeps you out of the Bingo halls.
The lighting problem is endemic because councils and businesses don’t understand how lighting should be used outside or inside.
Public lighting should account for the space its used in, what frequencies ? warm or cold. Public lighting should ideally be highly directional and shrouded so to not cause glare , the lights ourselves should only ever be seen when standing directly under the light and looking up. When you stand on castle Hill and can see the tube/ bulb/ led of public lighting it represents glare being created and also inefficient, ineffective lighting of public areas, most of the light being produced goes off into the sky.
Shrouded lighting saves money because you need less energy to light public spaces more effectively. Governments can’t be bothered getting it right because they dont understand the subject and refuse to understand it.
HEY FOLKS, seems like Guy has had a light bulb moment!!

Now he’s an expert on lighting. Wattshisname for Mayor, or is he just a bright spark?
Why would Paul Jacob run for Mayor? He struggles to get out of bed to be a councillor.
One supposes it is impolite to ask just how you know of Mr Jacob’s cock-crow performance?
Thanks Pie,
Hope listening to the Roll has not changed your algorithm on your streaming platform too much. This wrist slashing soft country is so so.
Paying cruise ships to visit Townsville makes sense as the only other reason is a calm harbour for seasick travelers.
Regarding the TCC-CEO delegations. How often does council vote on this document? Is this an annual vote or longer term? When does the council get to revisit and grow some backbone?
Paying the cruise ship companies to come here is an admission of third rate tourist ranking – bet Cairns or even Shute Harbour/Airlie have to pay, thosxe are the places passengers WANT to see. It is also, on anecdotal evidence, the only sort of evidence available, is a benefit neutral outcome.
BTW the Whitsunday council lay on buses for passengers to make the more lengthy trip into Airlie, and charge $25 a pop for the bumpy privilege.
I was cruising in the Whitsundays recently and a Carnival line cruise ship was visiting busy ferrying passengers to shore with numerous company craft. It’s a very regular and popular visiting area. No port so they drop anchor 5 nautical miles offshore.
Seriously, it’s a no brainer for cruise ship companies. They may come to Townsville for fresh food/supplies etc but from a passenger perspective the pristine blue waters of the Whitsundays offer much more with top class restaurants, bars/entertainment and tourist shopping. Ship passengers don’t have any need to shop at Coles/Bunnings/Dan Murphys as they love Aussie souvenirs and restaurants as a reprieve from ship dining.
Other than the compulsory visit to the wildlife park just south of the Townsville, what else is there to attract passengers ?
What else indeed J? I will tell you.
Stonefringe!
What other town has such an attractive man made structure or should I say structures. We have LOTS of them edging all open grassed areas. The Poms only have one little one in a grassed area.
And if our cruise ship visitors are really lucky they might see a culturally appropriate burnt our car wreck or two while on the Stonefringe bus tour. Well worth travelling halfway around the world to see.
Do we take you disapprove of the one smart move made by this council to stop hooning?
Our Stonefringes, while effective are lamentable monuments to Government failure a generation ago. No doubt in generations to come the visiting boat people will gaze at the now iconic Stonefringes and ponder, “Why on earth did they do that?”
Now you’re just gibbering. Complete horsefeathers.
On Jelly Roll (why do they have such stupid names?), the only photo I’ve seen is the one in Astonisher. Did his PR select that as one of his more attractive depictions?
Apparently Mr Roll was a chubby child. Some children lose the weight as they grow up, others just keep stacking it on.
The ‘Pie has received information from a completely trusted Melbourne source who has shared some insights into killer Dezi Freeman, still on the run after killing two police officers last week.
The source has previously met and talked with Freeman, a church going Catholic, and urged to seek help for what appeared to be untreated bi-polar disorder and possibly undiagnosed schizophrenia. The source says Freeman is/was a good dad and his wife ‘a lovely woman’. He has long maintained to the source the sexual assault claims against him are vexatious.
The source believes it is unlikely he will harm or kill civilians, but he is triggered by police. This obsession apparently started during the Covid lockdown, when his mental health issues were exacerbated and he started to be influenced by the extreme views of several Sovereign Citizens known to him.
The source says that while there can be absolutely no excuse or mitigation for what he has done, there are others who must be judged complicit, it was a case of someone needing mental health care having his deep anxieties and irrational fears fed by cultish Sovereign Citizens. To the point of murder.
The police have apparently been aware of these facts, which is perhaps why there was a such a large contingent sent to serve the warrant on him.
Because of the personal knowledge and interaction with Freeman, the source reaches the sad conclusion “Having known him, I believe when he realises he will never be able to return to his family, he will more than likely shoot himself, rather that anyone else.’
In The Magpie’s view, it is an unfortunate fact that that in these hard circumstances, that would be the best outcome all round.
Magpie this sounds very similar to some of the BS doing rounds in the sovereign citizen social media groups. Apparently he also never shot the police, and thats a set up someone else did it.
The Magpie can assure you the source of his information comes from someone known personally to The ‘Pie, and for whom he will vouch for the honesty of the info. . Certainly not a sovereign citizen, if you knew who the source was, that thought would be shown to be the laugh of the week … if there would be any room for levity in this matter.
Which there isn’t.
Pull your silly head in.
I suppose this highlights the effect of the pressure of lockdown during COVID, personal issues, and untreated mental health issues. Because of these situations, it has snowballed into the horrible situation we are witnessing now. Very sad all round.
If the Jelly Roll concert is so good for Townsville’s economy, why the secret squirrel commercial-in-confidence clause? After all, it’s ratepayer money being spent to bring him here. If it is such a positive experience for our city and of financial benefit then open the books and show us how profitable this whole episode is. Oh right, I forgot, you can’t and won’t show us the books because this is a box ticking exercise. TEL is simply justifying its existence, and its budget, by bringing a facially tattooed fuckwit like Jelly Dick to Townsville. To TEL It doesn’t matter whether he does, or doesn’t bring economic benefit to the region as It’s all about TEL justifying its existence.
And out of interest, the flabby thigh singer Pink has just announced a farewell to the world tour. Watch this space as it will be interesting to see whether Claudia Bullshit and her femme fatale bring her to Townsville again.
Two comment in one
Councillors can stand for Mayor in a By Election and if they lose simply remain in their current councillor role, probably still getting paid during the campaign too.
Not sure about Townsville paying for buses for cruise ships or indeed paying the ships to arrive in the first place BUT Whitsunday Council paid over $444 thousand for buses to Shute Harbour to service 8 ships. Never saw it go through a council meeting or vote too.
Here’s a picture of Bob Katter addressing the crowd today through a megaphone said to have been borrowed from one of the national socialist attendees.
https://www.abc.net.au/news/2025-08-31/anti-immigration-rally-march-for-australia-august-31/105717552#live-blog-post-217967
Swastika camouflage or have they not mastered the alphabet?
They appear to be anglo-saxon runes, I’m sure there’s a perfectly innocent explanation for why a non-Nazi would have a black megaphone covered in pagan runes lying around the place.
National socialists crowing about it:
https://bsky.app/profile/slackbastard.bsky.social/post/3lxokln723s2f
It is a foolish thing to do, hand Bob Katter a megaphone. Once he has got it is nigh on impossible to retrieve it. The people in the background are smiling. The photo must have been taken early in Bob’s address. Regardless, he can be entertaining, for a while, unless you are a reporter enquiring about the Lebanese.
What are you talking about, the reporter, an up-himself former ABC reporter now with 9, Josh Bavas, loved it, couldn’t believe his luck when the Kat went feral on him.
Seems his in good company. Neo-Nazi Thomas Sewell spoke in Melbourne.
https://www.abc.net.au/news/2025-08-31/anti-immigration-rally-march-for-australia-august-31/105717552?
Any relation, we wonder?
Ironically this particular Sewell is an immigrant. From Enzed
The ‘Pie is always a sucker for a laugh, inappropriate mostly, but just so long as it’s funny. And this he found a big thigh slapper.

Absolute gold ! love it ! I’ve been known to get more than one or two disapproving looks when I laugh out loud at some of my mates funerals of late ! Fuck em’ I say, laughter is the best medicine and I recall Hannibal Lecter once commenting that there’s a lot of truth humour !
Vladimir Putin, Xi Jinping and Kim Jong Un are coming together in China for diplomatic talks which are expected to also cover trade, economies and collaboration. But get this, some Australian communists have also been invited to this upcoming dictator/communist shindig. You guessed it, Bob Carr and Dan Andrews are also going to be there. How appropriate. I’m sure that once Fuhrer Albanese and Benny Pong leave office they too will get invitations to such highly regarded communist events.
No wonder your comments are so eagerly awaited by Nesters, it raises the whole tone of the place.
This is the second time someone mentioned this … what’s the problem supposed to be?
It’s the only place that Dan Andrews can get a game of golf without the members objecting to his presence.
Ch10 5pm news and 10 News + and the age have shown that the Nazis were given the floor at the Melbourne fascist rally.
The AGE on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=1181280907370097&id=100064645965636
In the picture of smiling Bob Katter posing with The Nazi United Patriots Front in Melbourne 2016, behind in the middle is Thomas Sewell a convicted and self described Nazi and Hitler soldier
S80.A-80.6 the CTH Criminal Code makes these people TERRORISTS for having the admitted Nazi intent , giving Nazi salutes, displaying Nazi and fascist symbols and for advocating genocide and all who hang out with them or associate with them ARE TERRORISTS https://www.austlii.edu.au/cgi-bin/viewdb/au/legis/cth/consol_act/cca1995115/ These are their admissions and intent. These are notorious facts. Every evidence act allows beaks to inform themselves using historical facts. The Deeming case doesn’t apply to the organisers who gave them the floor.
No fucking around. It’s what the law says as I have posted here before.
Again, that will turn up if you simply google Bob Katter united patriots front.
The media is dismissing Katter as eccentric, and Albo claimed him as a good mate on in an interview with today on nine last week. The Bulletin has a picture showing Katter and Dametto at the Townsville far right Rally today.
These cunts at these rallies in NQ are used as a militia by corrupt developers and miners.
In the 90’s , and there is ABC film, Katter was throwing spittle into the faces of activists protesting against Keith Williams port Hinchinbrook development. Sep 14 1997 at Oyster Point , corrupt cops dragged the media off and allowed the rednecks to hook in using the development as a step off with Keith Williams consent, whilst protestors were on the beach and mudflats which was public marine park. Then after Yasi clobbered it and silted it all up, the ABC did a story showing him at the gate yelling ‘I wanna know who’s responsible ‘
When ex Sgt in charge of the TSV cop shop and ESC ‘investigator’ during the time that led to being slammed by the Palm Island death inquest-Dale Last used the Bulletin to to tell activists to get out of Qld and Moscow Mike Brunker said that he wouldn’t be surprised if activists got a slapping, they were dog whistling to this militia.
There were hundreds of death threats on the ch7 page against TSV protesters too.
The relationship between the cops and far right in North Qld is a serious matter.
The far right jumps from issue to issue and party to party, but the votes when added up are consistent. Nothing new. This is old Australia that allowed massacres to happen and white/apartheid Australia to be maintained since colonisation. The people who sprayed Nazi stuff on Eddie Mabo’s grave back in the day were never caught. Tsv hid them .They were probably there today or are in positions of influence or power. Give them up Townsville.
Just to make sure people know what they think is normal is actually a crime-the Australian definition of genocide is s268.1-268.5. And the definition of apartheid is in s268.100
Pie
Is it okay to ask you how you felt about Meatloaf?
He was also a big boy who captured the poetry of the time in the context of the common man.
I want you.
I need you.
But there ain’t no way I’m ever gonna love you.
Don’t be sad.
TWO OUT OF THREE AIN’T BAD.
But then ,he could sing.
It’s music, everyone has different tastes in music, that’s what makes it unique. Any country, has music, everyone can relate to some form of music. Meatloaf was vilified because of his name and weight, but, bat out of hell is one of the biggest albums of all time. Just enjoy what you like listening to, and sing it loud and proud, like no one is listening.
Mr Loaf, of whom The Magpie remains a foundational fan, was a harbinger of change in an epoch ripe for a voice for generational change. His energy, presence and …yes … musical ability was in a whole different galaxy to this current sad sack. Mr Roll is just a chancer playing to the self-inflicted angst of a fan base only too ready to feel oh-so-sorry for itself. Mr Loaf spoke to energy and confronting life even when challenging life itself, not encouraging people to slink away and hide in a hole of self-pity.
BTW, The ‘Pie went to the trouble into trace the familiar-sounding singer in the new VW TV commercial. The voice and song was Patsy Biscoe, the one-woman Wiggle of her day, that’s why she sounded so familiar.
And crikey, talk about the past is a foreign country, they do things differently there!! Just let your sneering defences down for a minute, you disappointed mob, and allow yourself to enjoy a simple paean encouraging children to look forward to life beyond looking at fucking screens.

Exactly my point mr magpie. Everyone has a taste for music. Myself, it’s decades of my life, where I was and memories, some good, some bad. From Elvis, slim dusty as a kid, first concert Kiss, last concert falling in reverse. All genres, including classical music, starting out playing guitar. Music touches people in different ways, just because, a person is plump( jelly roll has lost 200 pounds) by the way, or have tattoos on their face, doesn’t mean they’re music doesn’t resonate with people. We just have to look at country music as a whole, it’s usually pretty depressing stuff also. Just saying one man’s trash can be another man’s treasure, memories, and hold special meaning.
She’s adorable. Who would have thought you were such a romantic?
Looks like you may have a common thinking stalker, Magpie !
Yeah, mate, it’s was good, but i can’t help thinking, you need to get about a bit more.
How much of this is happening in Australia
https://www.fincen.gov/sites/default/files/advisory/2025-08-28/FinCEN-Advisory-CMLN-508.pdf
Alot of Social Media activity at the moment, Food Trucks doing council meeting updates and accountably videos on Facey , Frothey smiling and putting himself all over the place and Mesagebank clapping happily with Vietnamese school kids and patting himself on the back. Could they have a heads up on things to can.
The first two definitely, the third … wellll … Messagebank surely couldn’t be that punch drunk.
Victoria’s cop commissioner labelled the far right grubs yesterday.

In this footage you will see a fella at the Brisbane Putsch who seemed dressed in his black court suit for convenience and a white KAP 10 gallon hat. He’s a dead ringer for the convicted Melbourne Nazi Thomas Sewell. Let’s see if he turns up as a KAP candidate.
I’ve been watching closely what’s happening with the Patriotic movement in Australia, and Sunday’s march should be seen as a serious warning for all governments. To dismiss everyone involved as simply neo-Nazis or far-right extremists is, in my view, a major mistake.
If we look at the timeline of issues that have brought us here, we can see a clear build-up:
The apology
Smoking ceremonies
Renaming Australian sites
Welcome to Country
The Voice referendum
Destruction of statues
Destruction of the impartiality if the ABC
The Covid pandemic
Overseas students taking up university positions
The housing crisis
Rising violent crime rates
Cost of living pressures
“Free money” handouts
Flag burning
Foreign interference in Australian interests
Protests over foreign wars on Australian streets
You don’t have to agree with all, some, or even any of these points—but the reality is that they’ve created a climate of frustration. To simply label the weekend’s events as racist or fringe is to miss the bigger picture.
From experience, I know these situations force people to take sides—and once sides are drawn, the problem escalates quickly. If I were in government, I would be taking steps to address at least one of these issues, and urgently.
Unfortunately, based on past performance—such as during the Voice referendum—it seems easier for leaders to dismiss people with labels like “racist,” “Nazi,” “scum,” or “hate-filled” rather than deal with the underlying concerns.
Sectarianism is real and can take place in any country at any time. It is not a bottle you want to open. If 15000 people march and 500 are Neo Natzi’s then what do you call the rest?
A highly debatable analysis, which is really a bit garbled, but The ‘Pie will leave that for others to untangle.
However, your last point seems to miss the reality of the origin of the marches. There has been a grass roots and sensibly based sentiment that immigration levels are too high, and that the current government is willing to risk social cohesion to have a workforce to fill their ambitious and in parts foolhardy rush towards massive change. This is rational and widely supported argument (which, for the record, The ‘Pie supports) which was becoming more and more evident. To the point that some irresponsible politcians morphed this disquiet with ‘quantity’ of the intake with the ‘quality’ of the intake. When there was the slightest hint that discord could be promoted, mummy’s little Nazis started their more high profile agitation. But you need to understand that yesterday’s marches and the continuing debate was initiated by a fair minded majority concerned about the government’s lop-sided moral and social agenda.
So in your example, when you call into question the motives of the 14,500, you are mistakenly equating them with the deeply dangerous 500 who have exploited and hi-jacked the perfectly legal right to peaceful protest … something that should the extremen right wingers ever get to run the place, will never ever be allowed.
The figurative’14,500′ are simply people telling the government the migrant intake at a more controlled level, and not at rates threatening social cohesion and a fair economy. Your analysis is also tinged with a weird racist dog whistle, the marches and general unrest has nothing to do with the indigenous issues of Australia, that sort of twisted argument is EXACTLY what the 500 want to promote.
You kinda owe an apology for the implied slur against the ‘14,500’, for calling them Nazis.
Or have a closer think about your own ideology, Trops.
I’m not trying to put forward my own opinion on these issues—only to share an analysis and a personal reminder of how dangerous sectarianism can become once it’s unleashed.
At this stage, I’m simply observing and listening to what people are saying and doing. I don’t march, and I don’t wave a flag.
My only point is this: we shouldn’t ignore it when people begin gathering behind any cause. History shows us there are moments that shape the future of a nation, and this could very well be one of them.
Rudyard Kipling’s poem Norman and Saxon comes to mind.
https://www.poeticous.com/kipling/norman-and-saxon
A fine but meaningless sentiment, which makes one suspect English she ain’t your first lingo.
What else are you ‘trying to but put forward you own opinion on these issues—only to share analysis’ This is a dangerous sort of denial disguising your real sentiment that you clearly want to remain hidden for the moment.
So, what cause are people getting behind, before the extremists hijacked it into a return to white(ish) Australia?
The basic aim of the marches was to send an overdue message to the government that immigration levels are too high, not properly focussed or targeted, and cannot be sustained by our economy, please slow the progress, let housing catch up, let energy be sorted. But it suited others to turn this into a public display that all migrants are ne’er do wells and terrorists, and turn peaceful protest into a recruiting ground for those vulnerable to twisted lies.
Nobody seems to understand that stopping migration more or less altogether would wreck the economy, and do so in jig time. But Labor doesn’t seem to understand a ‘too much, too soon’ policy will do exactly the same thing, only probably more quickly.
Queen of bullshit, TEL’s Claudia Bull’shit, recently met with Qantas and hit them up for more flights to Townsville. The reality is that Qantas does what Qantas wants, and Frau Claudia and all of her bullshit will make not a single iota of a difference. Just another opportunity for the poser to rub shoulders with a big player and act all important. TEL is a joke. It’s not a think tank, it’s a ‘stink tank’ and a drain on ratepayer money.
Quick question, how do you know about the meeting, is there a media release? (Not having a go, genuine question.)
And your comment brings to mind something from that recent Bulletin-sponsored waste of time gabfest … one imported expert said what Townsville needed right now was 20 more hotels. This piece of idiocy went unchallenged, and the disbelieving questions are too obvious to ask, except the biggy: who the fuck is going to stay in them?
Good morning, Pie, this piece of information was picked up from TEL’s LinkedIn account. The posers like to display their ‘activities’ on LinkedIn. A lot of what they post is complete shit, but I found the Qantas piece interesting because as many people know, Qantas do whatever they want to do. No amount of industry advocacy will make a cent of difference. Perhaps Ms Bull’shit is chasing chairman’s lounge privileges?
A certain amount of migration is a good thing, but what is driving the current high levels of migration?
I suspect it is because, in part, we are not educating our children to make them job ready at the end of secondary schooling, and that includes the maturity to assume adult responsibilities.
Teachers were once trained at Teacher Traning Colleges, at least in Queensland. These were closed when all teacher training was provided by universities. At about this time, in the classroom, it was subtly pushed that everyone should aspire to a university degree, everything else was a varying degree of failure. The skilled trades, on which the country depends were no longer edified as a worthy aspiration, and many that did get into university did not complete or use the degree they got. They should never been at university in the first place. The result a waste of resources and a lack of motivated skilled workers who actually make and repair things.
So what have we got? A nation of yoga teachers and baristas, many of whom have not matured into responsible adults and high imigration to fill the skills shortage.
I might have oversimplified this very complex matter but you get the idea.
In summary, from the earliest years educate our children to be motivated skilled productive responsible adults in the trade or profession for which they are best suited, thereby reducing the over reliance on migration for necessary workplace skills.
Ben, as you suggest, it is quite possible you have oversimplified the situation. You will note that Australia has very low unemployment. You can debate all you like about what the dolebludgers are doing but getting those few remaining people into the workforce is not going to fix the problem. If you ask the google Artificial Intelligence machinery to give you a rundown on skills shortages it will tell you:
“Australia needs significantly more skilled workers, with widespread shortages reported across sectors like healthcare, construction, and technical services, leading to a third of businesses struggling to find suitable staff due to a lack of required skills. While some unskilled positions exist in agriculture, hospitality, and cleaning, the persistent and systemic challenge is the shortage of qualified professionals needed for economic growth and to fill critical job vacancies.”
Amongst that shortage of professionals is teachers. Ironic eh?
The Australian lifestyle, dream, and carefree existence is dead. Excessive immigrant numbers have boosted anti-Australian sentiment. Just about every gangland killing in recent years has been done by middle eastern crime gangs. Housing is now unaffordable and you can’t even get a fucking rental. Construction companies are run by middle eastern crime gangs.
It’s time to close the borders and deport the fuckwits who want to ruin our nation. And it’s time for politicians to stop bending over for Israel and stop funding fucking wars with our taxpayer money. Grub politicians are so desperate to fund the war machine and appease the WEF and UN that they now want to tax the family home and tax our superannuation further. Next step will be taking money out of $4 trillion super fund. Enough is enough.
Hey Watcher, a large portion of middle Australia seems to be very happy with the dream and do not want to change it – particularly the part about housing. Did you know that (according to the Parliamentary Budget Office) negative gearing and the capital gains discount on residential properties will cost the 25/26 budget $13.57 billion and is expected to increase beyond $20 billion by 32/33? As Labor found out at the 2016 Bill Shorten election, voters will punish any politician that wants to change this cushy arrangement. Easy to blame migration / gangsters, hard to face up to our own inclinations.
Yes, well … this is not 2016, the situation is multiple times worse in the property sector than it was then, and … hard to believe but true … Albo is more trusted that Shorten ever was.
The changed situation means Negative gearing should be reduced by the number of properties that can be claimed, and reduction grandfathered out. Or just knocked on the head anyway. Good idea when it happened, didn’t get the expected results, now a divisive and unfair system.
The answer would probably be to abolish negative gearing and plow a large proportion of the savings into income tax cuts. Anyone proposing to reintroduce negative gearing then has to pledge to raise income tax.
Skilled trades are expensive to train, and there has been a steady decline in companies willing to provide that training. Often, they start an apprentice, and the apprentice quits within a week because it is hard work and the pay as an apprentice is not comparable to other employment, which is not a new thing. Business can’t afford a non-productive worker and that is what a first-year apprentice is. If they finish the apprenticeship, they go to the mines on much higher wages, so the effort of training is wasted. Like every job, it is hard finding quality staff who want to work and commit to a company for any period of time.
Skills shortages was talked about 3 decades ago as much as today. There have been plenty of alarms with the reduced apprentice intakes and increased demand year on year.
Universities have opened their doors to international students to increase their revenue and grow their business. Plenty of Aussie kids still attend and have the opportunity.
We have more immigration now than ever before, including students. These people have to live somewhere, and since there are more people arriving then houses constructed, we have a housing crisis. It is increasing the revenue for the Government, which they need desperately because they are overspending.
Migration levels to Australia are not sustainable at the current rate, and while they continue at the current rate, the price of real estate will continue to increase, and the problems of supply and demand of rental accommodation will not improve.
B.B.
I agree. I suggest the apprentice training system is broken. With better education of the potential apprentice and apprenticeship information for the parents who support that young person may give that young person more resilience and motervation. With better retention, industry may be more willing to train apprentices. (Chicken and Egg problem here I know.)
B.B., are you an ex RAEME soldier/officer?
I am an ex apprentice who happily went on to do other things within the system.
No I haven’t had any involvement with RAEME.
Another point to factor with apprentice costs, is the tradesman becomes less productive because their time is spent teaching.
Not really, apprentices usually start with small tasks, including spinning filters, and tradespeople work with apprentices and guides them through their modules assigned from college. Tradespeople will guide , but by the 2 year they are almost autonomous. Apprentices have to be trained, if not tradespeople, who? Almost all employers will charge trade rates, while apprentices are doing the work anyway. In my experience, you start your real training and experience when you become a tradesperson.
Depends which trade. Electrical is more restrictive. Even after they have passed the Capstone, they still need direct supervision for some tasks.
The agenda for this week’s Council meeting is up.
https://townsville.resolve.red/web/Player.aspx?id=1795&key=-1&mod=-1&mk=-1&nov=0
It contains a 1189 page document that constitutes Council’s major planning amendment. It also contains a document called Ministerial Condition that raises the stakes in the McCabe administration already taking over development on Magnetic Island.

This is the state planning Minister telling Council it must LOWER the level of assessment to code assessment for all Nature-based tourism and Environmental Facilities; but only on Magnetic Island. So no development proposal within the Magnetic Island National Park wil ever go on public exhibition. By order of the State of Queensland.
No wonder this state government is itching to make the road to Radical Bay serviceable.
Little David and little Jarrod are wielding their might and cutting through red tape. That of course, comes with the potential to make Europe’s and not conform with best practise. Decisions such as this must be viewed with caution.
What the hell are you on about sniffer?
I don’t quite get your funky line of thinking. Eg the random reference to Europe. But if your take on that document is that it is cutting red tape, you should have a stellar career in the bureaucracy of your choice. If you don’t already have one…
Methinks that the reference to Europe’s was an autocorrect of errors.
Clarabelle,
what Magnetic Island National Park? The whole island is NOT a national park, although people like you try to peddle that it is.
76% of Magnetic Island is National Park, the other 26% where we LIVE isn’t.
I say bring it on, for too long for any development application for Nature Based Tourism & Environmental Facilities has been bogged down – not for months but for years!
You might have missed the point, there, Moggie.
Clarabelle, I think you might be confused about the application of this Ministerial Condition. I may be mistaken here but I think this Condition only applies to land (on Maggie Island, not elsewhere in Townsville) that is within TCC’s Environmental Management and Conservation Zone. So, not the national park which is a state asset subject to a completely different set of conditions. Identifying those land parcels that are in this particular zone would be a great start for our local councillor A-M Greaney at the TCC meeting tomorrow, and for our local member Adam Baillie at his earliest convenience. There are several that come to mind, each with its own curiosities and complexities. The ominous intervention of the minister Jarrod Bleijie only adds to the mystery.
Fair enough comment, but what are the ‘hidden possibilities’ that are supposed to alarm everyone?
Clarabelle?
Unless it has been updated, the purpose of TCC’s Environmental Management and Conservation Zone:
“1. provides for the protection, restoration and maintenance of areas identified as supporting significant biodiversity and ecological integrity
2. these areas remain undeveloped other than small-scale facilities that support conservation, low-impact nature-based recreational activities and essential infrastructure
3. one of the most prominent areas of Townsville included in this zone is the Town Common Conservation Park.
Examples of Intended Development:
1. educational establishment (small scale only)
2. food and drink outlet (small scale only)
3. park
4. shop (small scale only)”
Seems innocuous enough so why the ministerial intervention?
And who decides what is ‘small scale’?https://www.townsvillemagpie.com.au/wp-admin/edit-comments.php#comments-form
Charlie could be right, which is even more troubling. It would be one thing for a state planning minister to issue instructions about development on state controlled National Park. If the condition is limited only to the environmentally protected land/ reserves under Council control on the island, that becomes weird: I will approve your local planning scheme but only on the condition that you don’t consult the public about development proposals on environmentally protected sites.
A primary case in point might be the stretch of waterfront within the Nelly Bay Habitat Reserve. This is prime island real estate. The updated definition of Nature-based tourism no longer mentions sustainability practices or short term accommodation. With sewerage and electricity on tap, it’s sounding more like luxury waterfront living than eco tourism.
Clarabelle,
And a primary case could also the recent announcement of The Magnetic Island Koala Hospital ( see my recent post) for Nature Based Tourism approvals. The facility is currently not open to public but it can be, the hopsital will always need a commercial component ie shop/cafe/ educational area, to keep the facility funded and open.
Good suggestions there, Charlie. Greaney will be at the MIRRA meeting this Saturday so if she doesn’t clarify the issue at the Council meeting on Wednesday, we’d all appreciate your input.
You’re a big girl, Clarabelle. Why don’t you step up and ask a question yourself?
i would never try to cut your lunch, Charlie. You were the president of MINCA when the Nelly Bay Habitat Reserve was established. It was MINCA’s very first achievement. If it’s about to be chopped up for development, don’t you think you should be asking the questions?
Moggie,
As you would know, an Environment Facility does not come under the definition of Nature-based Tourism. They are mutually exclusive within development assessment tables. We may all applaud our koala hospital, while maintaining a healthy scepticism about code-based waterfront development.
Toejammer, you’re just a bit of a dick, aren’t you?
Clarabelle, you may think it is obvious that an Environment Facility does not come under the definition of Nature-based Tourism but keep in mind that we are dealing with a council that believes it is obvious that Heavy Industry (dredge spoil stockpiling and remediation) fits under the definition of Community Purposes.
(This post was not from regular commenter Clarabelle, as claimed, so has been given a new name. Please think up your own. The Magpie)
Would you know why Maggie Moggie might be spruiking Ali Bee’s clinic in this thread? It’s a private facility on private land, irrelevant to any discussion on development on environmentally protected reserves.
I forgot to add that the Ministerial Condition has been presented in the agenda as a two page document, but the first page is completely blank. Do you think any of the Councillors will be brave enough to ask to see what is on that first page?
In a fake news world, it is important to undertake due diligence to establish authenticity.
The flamboyant signature on the Planning Minister’s Condition document is consistent with a document posted in 2013. It would appear to be a genuine contribution to tomorrow’s Council meeting.
Exactly why he might personally concern himself with the development of eco tourism on Magnetic Island remains a mystery.
Clar
You are so full of yourself as a super sleuth- have a look at the bottom of the page it says 1/1 pages.
Seriously it is all becoming so boring.
In future you should begin your comments with ‘ Once upon a time…’ it would make your theories more credible.
If both you and Charlie are finding in me a common enemy, IV, there must be much at stake on the island indeed. Personally, I don’t think this is likely to end well for the current planning minister. But then, as both you and Charlie infer, what would I know?
The “current planning minister”, aka Deputy Premier Jarrod Bleijie, now has plenty of time to explain to the TCC and a bunch of wide-awake residents, why it is so important to downgrade development assessment in the Environmental Management and Conservation Zone specifically on Magnetic Island from ‘Impact assessment’ to ‘Code assessment’. The Deputy Premier is apparently trying to streamline and speed up the approval process for certain types of tourism development and had issued a directive to ensure his demand was met. At the short and sharp Council meeting this morning decision making on the Package 1 Major Amendment to the Town Plan (an 1,189 page document) was deferred till further notice while dissatisfied councillors mull over this and other queries. A ‘please explain’ would be handy as none of the various tourism and community groups on the Island has uttered or heard a peep about this sudden directive. Councillors didn’t appear to have a clue either.
Well said, Charlie.
There does appear to be a bastardisation of process with the Minister’s Condition document. The Planning Act is pretty clear that the Minister’s power to direct a local government is grounded in one of two things: directing the council to alter its local planning amendment “ to ensure it is consistent with the regulated requirements” ( to fix something they got wrong); or “ to protect, or give effect to, a State interest. “
What exactly is this State interest? The only industry listed for Magnetic Island under the State government’s grand plan is Tourism. Island residents should be flattered, really, that by monitoring development on environmentally protected land they might constitute such an enormous threat to the State. Such a threat, that the State has now decreed they are not to be allowed to see any development proposals at all.
The Minister is supposed to give a written reason for invoking this power. Council may be in possession of another document they have chosen not to share with either the public or our elected Councillors.
The Councillors smelled a rat today, and why wouldn’t they? The 500 plus page CEO delegation document dumped on them, what, less than a month ago? Now something over 1000 pages both Acting Mayor Greaney, the CEO and council planning bots insist they all agreed to on 4 September 2024.
It is hard to detect any specific statement from Deputy Premier Bleijie that casts any light on his reasoning for a pointy intervention into the minutia of Magnetic Island’s tourist development planning arrangements. Apart from a vague reference by a council bureaucrat in yesterday’s TCC meeting (about 26 minutes into the live stream) the only other connection I can find, and it’s pretty nebulous, is “. . . these specific actions are part of the government’s broader promise to deliver “a fresh start” for communities across North Queensland, including Magnetic Island and the Palm Island group”. But who’s getting fresh with who? And is TEL somehow lurking in the background?
All TEL EVER does is ‘lurk in the background’, emerging only to grab onto the coattails of others who have actually achieved something. They are as big of a problem as the council, and any shake-up should include a review of their function and public funding.
Magpie, you may have a point there. The push to streamline and lubricate certain tourism development projects on the Island could well be getting a nudge from TEL without any locals knowing about it. Clarabelle and others have clarified in these pages the existence of the Magnetic Island Tourism Alliance (MITA) which apparently has 70+ members including council and government people. In conjunction with TEL and with a fat financial contribution from the state government, the Alliance has, some time ago, produced a glossy tourism ‘2030 Masterplan’ for the Island. It’s been quite a while since the Alliance, which includes business and community group members, has formally met and some projects which are currently under consideration including some which might be directly affected by minister Bleijie’s ‘downgrade assessment criteria’ directive, have not been examined by the membership to see if they align with the Masterplan they developed specifically for Magnetic Island. The Chair of MITA is Lisa Wolfe from TEL. Hmmm.
Your last line says it all.
Some ABC footage turned up this morning of a black clad person behind Bob Katter in Townsville yesterday and addressing the crowd. That person had to know the significance of appearing at a far right Rally- to be like a Melbourne Nazi . The pollies present must be taken to know the significance. An integrity issue like that can go to the CCC under S15. The footage https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=1342666563881277&id=100044138394046

Nick Dametto desperately trying to defend the photograph of himself with 3 neo-Nazis at the Townsville March for Australia. Apparently he didn’t know who they were, but despite this KAP used their black bullhorn covered in nazi symbols, then Nick let them have a photo with them “to keep the peace”.
If you’re a politician you should have more fucking sense.
https://www.facebook.com/share/p/19TMPeFmwm/
And guts.
Pie, he is posing with members of the group who were among the main organisers and were chief promotors of the rallies. The NSN did not hi-jack these protests, they had a hand in organising and the KAP, Hanson and that dickhead Roberts jumped in and partnered with them. That is why Dametto, Katter and co are posing for happy snaps and sharing spit through their Nazi symbol emblazoned megaphone. The NSN leader Thomas Sewell and his associates took front and centre stage at the Melbourne and Sydney protests because they were the organisers. It is a fact, many who attended with their own axe to grind, (however reasoned) are choosing to ignore and downplay. There is nothing random or opportunistic about the images we are seeing. Dametto would prefer to be thought a gutless coward than admit he and the KAP knew they were in, A-ok with this movement and their ideology. To dismiss the NSN as a small group of uninvited, mummy boy larrikins is wrong. They are extremely dangerous, deeply radacalised and insidious. The NSN no-doubt recruited more than a few members over the weekend which I believe was the intention. Regional Australia has plenty of disillusioned and disenfrachised young men to make membership seem attractive.
If people really wanted to be heard and taken seriously, they should have organised and held their own march on a different day and made their concerns very clear.
A reasonable view, but seems to overlook the fact that KAP generally and Bob, Robbie and the increasingly demented Dametto are possible so out of touch that they didn’t inquire as to who these folks were. You might be giving credit for intelligence where it is not due.
In the paper today Dametto said he took charge of the event and was told at the start who they were.
Yes, he took charge of the event on the day, as a person liaising with the police.
But what he actually said was ‘“Those gentlemen dressed in black, I didn’t know too much about who they were, but people were very concerned about their presence,” he said.
He also said he let the photograph with them be taken ‘to keep the peace’. Which makes him an idiot.
Three fuckwits versus a disapproving crowd, and a number of police? Yeah, right Nick, nappy change time, eh?
All he had to do was tell them politely to stand aside, but he is a completely empty paddock when it comes to media savvy. Even better if he wasn’t such a slow dullard, he could have seized the moment and done some finger pointing and been seen talking to the Nazis, and later claim he was arguing their ideology and their presence.
At best, he has openly admitted that he is a stupid person, easily tricked by some unpleasant guys who arewrestling with their lifestyle choices.
Katters know exactly who the Nazis were
https://x.com/ListenSport/status/1961557970988462503
Congratulations to the ONE LADY who said they should be expelled from the march, and shame on everyone who marched alongside them.
Now just have a think about that, my aptly named commenter. You want peaceful mum and dads and well meaning average citizens who are just worried about the levels of migration to actively confront and disown a violent seriously deranged group bent on violence and publicity? Good thinking, mate, don’t change your moniker.
Or perhaps you could tell us how your idea could be safely achieved.
Yes I do want that, it’s not too much to ask for people to tell Nazis to piss off, especially if they’re greatly outnumbered.
And start a violent response?
You’re about as smart as Nick Dametto. Oh, wait, maybe you …. hmmmm.
Violent response, as if.
The last thing those cowards would want would be a fight with flag-wielding white Australians. They were there to recruit them, not fight with them.
Katter needs to retire. He has lost the plot. The guy is 80, for fucks sake Bob go and retire mate, enjoy your last few years on earth before you have a heart attack or an aneurism you angry bastard. Recent events prove it’s time to hang up the RM Williams boots and so shoot some feral pigs and cats.
An easier solution would be for Robbie to pilot him around the place for rallies. Odds are the problem will quickly be solved.
And watch that ageist attitude in your comments, sport!! The ‘Pie might take it personally.
Copy that ????.i myself am 81 years young and every year is now a bonus year. Knees, hips and back are all fucked and I’ve had more FNQ skin cancers cut out than memory serves, but I’m still here just like a rusted on politician at a taxpayer trough.
‘Old’ is always 10 years more than your current age.
The Townsville Bulletin editor needs to spend more time proofreading her paper and less chasing Jelly Roll concerts.
The recent duplication of race fields and race results has now spread to the editorial pages and become almost a daily stuff up.
For example, last Saturday the print edition had exactly the same 4 stories and photo on pages 52 and 59, and this morning a story about a Tesla recall on page 3 was repeated on page 16.
The word sloppy comes to mind.
Sloppy is right, they’re also having story text run out of space and get cut off at the end – see the goose step article on page seven today for an example.

I really think it should be compulsory for pre school teachers to ask kids ‘who knows the words to eenie meenie mynie mo’? and if their parents taught it to them. And what their parents do for a living.
I think such a state or nationwide survey would be revealing of whether we have changed at all
A niggardly comment.
Instead of the niggling “by the toe”; maybe should be black balled?

I don’t think there is any doubt which organisation organised the Take Back Australia march/protest last weekend. I consider that, in the future, good well intentioned people carefully consider with whom they are associating.
And just how to you suggest they do that? By voluntarily foregoing their right to peaceful protest for fear of being tarred with the same Nazi brush?
In my case Pie, yes.
Initially their website promoted “remigration”. What is this? Trump like ICE goons invading homes? Poland 1943 perhaps?
From the start there were hints that this march was about more than migration levels, there was an undertone of right wing white supremacist promotion dressed up as population/economic policy.
Did this not ring alarm bells for ordinary folk of good will who might think imigration is a bit high but would not knowingly associate with the likes of those who organised this march/protest?
It is fair and reasonable to judge someone by the company they keep.
Further, from the Law Report, just finished on ABC RN, I learn that the March for Australia was heavily promoted by the Sovereign Citizen cult. Apparently there were SC chants at the Adelaide march/protest with one interlectual holding high a photo of police murderer Desi Freeman nee Filby.
Yes, it was clear from the start what the people behind the marches were like. Good, well-meaning people had all the information they needed to stay away.
If they want to exercise their right to peacefully protest they could organise their own marches with clearly-defined non-racist goals and expel non compliant attendees.
The ‘Pie agrees with you on that, but my previous comments were in relation to the well meaning people found themselves in a situation where no matter what they did, they were going to be exploited. There was nothing they could do.
Magpie, March with Nazis be counted as one.
If you don’t want to be counted as a Nazi sympathiser (a Nazi) then go run your own protest. It’s not that difficult to work out.
So you are saying all those who marched, possibly because they wanted the government to know immigration levels are too high, should be counted a Nazis who want a white Australia?
I’m saying it was well known across Australia who was organising the marches. And as MLK said “He who passively accepts evil is as much involved in it as he who helps perpetrate it”
Well known by whom?
You conveniently give credit to ordinary everyday Australians for an awareness that they do/did not possess … it is utter tripe to suggest that the bulk of the mum and dad marchers were protesting anything other than THE LEVEL of current migration, which exacerbates the housing crisis and the economy generally. There was no popular sentiment of repatriating (even if that were possible) law abiding immigrants, and there was no evidence outside the attention seeking Nazi scumbags of a popular return to a White Australia policy.
Labor loves migration for two traditional reasons: the labour it provides for ambitious government agendas … in the current case, impossible and ill-thought-out renewable projects – and the added bonus that up until recently, migrants tended to vote Labor, having come from right wing authoritarian regimes.
Are you now suggesting everyday Australians are dumb?
You’re really not up to attempting debating tricks on this one, Ducky. A level of engagement on a particular matter does not translate into a blanket judgement of dumb.
But The ‘Pie will make an exception in your case.
Magpie, that old saying, the enemy of my enemy is my friend, doesn’t always apply.
Quite often, the enemy of my enemy, is also my enemy.
So anyone who is too stupid, or too ignorant to find out who organised the march, or turned up, saw men at an anti immigration march wearing all black and thought to themselves, oh maybe they just like black clothes and shaved heads; and still willingly participated, is complicit.
There were plenty of opportunities to turn around. But no, they still chose to align themselves with a nazi organised rally.
Absolute gargling crap. Couldn’t be bothered trying to educate further.
Perhaps all these Nazi’s will be attending the Jelly Roll concert?
Really???
A good news story after 20 years Dr Alison Bee has announced the Magnetic Island Koala Hospital has become a reality go to https://www.facebook.com/alibee3184
For Christs sake, enough of the magnetic island posts. Koala habitats, overgrown parks, lighting to bright blah blah fucking blah. All we read are comments about the pissy island issues. Who gives a fuck, the rest of us aren’t interested.
Any other subjects you’d like to ban from the Nest?

The arrogant and conceited Bob Scatter has doubled down and won’t apologise for threatening that reporter. In fact he has said that he regrets not punching the reporter. Bob is an immature and proud fuckhead who thinks he owns Queensland. It’s really time for him to go. Although, it would be interesting to see how his clueless and brainless son will go leading the next generation of Kattermites in QLD politics.
Katter is probably lucky he didn’t take on the solidly built Josh Bavas, he might have ended up on his bony arse had he taken swing … not to mention landing in court. The threat stopped short of ending up like the fracas at the 1987 funeral of Robert Trimbole, when ABC report Max Uechtritz gave as good as he got from some of the Griffith mafia … in fact, Max acquitted himself so well that the then PM Bob Hawke rang him that night with a goodonyermate message.

This made me laugh …how polite..not a single F or C bomb was thrown! ! “C’mon mate dont do that”
Looks at the camera…”What a way to earn a buck”..absolute gold!!
Dear KAP, Nazis and Cops , it was all about you at the Townsville far right anti immigration rally on Sunday 31/8/25 . Offences in Qld , and indeed everywhere can be committed by act or omission in s7- 10A of the Qld code https://www.legislation.qld.gov.au/view/html/inforce/current/act-1899-009#sch.1-pt.1-cg1-ch.2
Cops must report bad pollies and themselves. Public servants must report themselves and other public servants . That’s in the Police service Admin act and CCC Act. Everyone’s oath is according to law.
Until this ABC story I was unable to know for certain these fellas in Townsville were wearing National Socialist Network (NSN patches). Due to films not being mine and tech issues for enlargement. There was also another on the left sleeve. https://www.abc.net.au/news/2025-09-01/kap-leader-unaware-man-at-rally-wearing-neo-nazi-insignia/105721906
So , whats the offence. The NSN , Melbourne Nazis for short, stood behind a big banner a while ago that said Australia for the white man. That’s advocating genocide and apartheid. Its intimidating the public. It fits the CTH Code terrorism provisions s82.2-s82.6 , s268.1-5 regardless of any swastikas. In The Qld Penalties and Sentencing Act s161O that definition of criminal organization and 161P Meaning of participant fits perfectly https://www.legislation.qld.gov.au/view/html/inforce/current/act-1992-048#
Ifs that’s too much for you s52A of The Qld Criminal Code which make racism a criminal offence and covers all the nazis communications and messaging https://www.legislation.qld.gov.au/view/html/inforce/current/act-1899-009#sch.1-pt.2-ch.7A
And s9 ,17, and 18B-F of The CTH Racial Discrimination Act, an agent or employer is vicariously liable . Arguably the far right rally organiser is vicariously liable. A big atheist-OMG ! ..and raspberry https://www.austlii.edu.au/cgi-bin/viewdb/au/legis/cth/consol_act/rda1975202/
So, a member of that network in Qld dressed in its uniform and symbol is associating with, and is intending to be associated with the Melbourne nazis and their violent conduct and intimidation was at the Sunday far right rally…go figure.
The racist violent conduct of the NSN also fits the definition of Terrorism or the threat of it in s22A (1) (b) and (c ) and (2) of The CCC Act. And when you look at the definitions of physical harm , the public , and a threat made by conduct , whether express or implied and whether conditional or unconditional in that section
https://www.legislation.qld.gov.au/view/html/inforce/current/act-2001-069#sec.22A
Melbourne nazis attacked a peaceful indigenous camp that day too.
In The film in the ABC story , Dametto is claiming in part that he doesn’t know that they are nazis. That they are welcome to stay because they are Australians . His mates cheered It was at this point he should have removed himself , and the other state MLA’s and any public servant should have removed themselves. But they shouldn’t have been at a far-right rally to start with. The nazis are just a hook for my argument. Cos I think anyone at a far right rally is a fascist anyway.
Is this a big thing? Absolutely ! See that honesty and integrity provisions of s15(1)(a) and (b) of the Qld CCC Act https://www.legislation.qld.gov.au/view/html/inforce/current/act-2001-069#sec.15
He shouldn’t have been there. He knew of Bob Katters previous associations. He made no attempt to remove himself from the association with Nazis. This was the omission. In Black at a far right rally means nazi . All KAP far right associations are admissible notorious facts.
In the publications section of the CCC site there are previous reports on inappropriate relationships and associations specifically this one https://www.ccc.qld.gov.au/publications/dangerous-liaisons-report-arising-cmc-investigation-allegations-police-misconduct
Pat, please, please, please will you offer us a Readers Digest edition of your contributions. I only have so many heart beats left and I have to share them around you know.
Typos there , s80.2-80.6 not 82
Yeah, bit obvious, spotted that …
Who is this Dickhead?
Australia’s least wanted.
https://thenightly.com.au/editions/2025-09-02?
I don’t know why the Nazi Thomas Sewell wasn’t charged with terrorism offences
https://www.abc.net.au/news/2025-09-02/thomas-sewell-charged-court-camp-sovereignty-jacinta-allan/105726392?future=true&
Sewell and his mates should have been arrested for terrorism under s3 (interpretation) –
In s3 of CTH The Crimes Act 1914 , the definition of constable includes state and territory cops for their arrest powers. Official PDFhttps://www.legislation.gov.au/C1914A00012/latest/downloads Austlii version https://www.austlii.edu.au/cgi-bin/viewdoc/au/legis/cth/consol_act/ca191482/s3.html and in s3ZD it sets out that any persons arresting must give reasons at the time of arrest https://www.austlii.edu.au/cgi-bin/viewdoc/au/legis/cth/consol_act/ca191482/s3zd.html
and s3WA https://www.austlii.edu.au/cgi-bin/viewdb/au/legis/cth/consol_act/ca191482/s3wa.html
and s3W https://www.austlii.edu.au/cgi-bin/viewdoc/au/legis/cth/consol_act/ca191482/s3w.html
Complete Austlii version here https://www.austlii.edu.au/cgi-bin/viewdb/au/legis/cth/consol_act/ca191482/
The arrest should have been for terrorism offences under s80.2A and s80.2B of the CTH Criminal Code urging violence against groups and prosecuted with alternative verdicts https://www.legislation.gov.au/C2004A04868/latest/downloads . Austlii version here https://www.austlii.edu.au/cgi-bin/viewdoc/au/legis/cth/consol_act/cca1995115/ and then add the state violence offences.
Incidentally, in those sections you will see the element of disrupting the peace, order and good government of the CTH’ . The High Court and superior courts have held that those words mean nothing in Union Steamship v King beginning at par 13] here https://www.austlii.edu.au/cgi-bin/viewdoc/au/cases/cth/HCA/1988/55.html hence the alternative verdict sections within those sections. Dumb drafters could have just left it out.
I think these sections and powers also have implications for North Qld rednecks and ex cop pollies. And rednecks in mining and logging communities .That’s because urging violence against groups because of their political opinion includes against environmentalists. The high court, and many other courts have held in many freedom of communication cases that environmental advocacy is political communication. That includes implied threats. The law DOES allow for pre-emptive attacks on nazis or rednecks if you know they are coming and there is no intervening factor available . That’s R v Secretary and s31 of the Qld code relating to justification.
The law DOES NOT allow for pre-emptive attacks on Nazis, rednecks or anyone else. The law DOES NOT empower authorities to ‘attack’ anybody, that is, initiate any forceful unilateral action against a group because of what they might do, a sort of ‘they’re all good for it’ response which is ironically much favoured by the ignorant. But it does empower authorities to contain and if necessary detain those who fail to obey a dispersal direction in the name of public safety.
Wasn’t talking about coppers there for pre-emptive strike. Where coppers sent available and you have to act, you have to act. https://www.austlii.edu.au/au/cases/nt/NTCCA/1996/18.pdf
https://www.abc.net.au/news/2025-09-03/australian-flag-as-a-symbol-after-march-rallies/105720848
Last Sunday’s march has generated much debate on a range of issues not evident before the event. One is the use, or abuse of the Australian National Flag (ANF). Please read the article at the end of the link.
I fly a small ANF out of gratitude that I was born in Australia, not Haiti, Nth Korea, or the USA. Looking at mt little ANF I wonder what people now think after the misappropriation of the ANF by the likes of the National Socialist Network on Sunday.
This goes to the very heart of the recently raised issue of criminalising the burning of the Australian flag. Symbols are exactly that, a visual distillation of a society and its values. Burn our flag and you are NOT protesting a single given issue of the day, you are in effect calling for the collapse of the whole infrastructure and governance model (democracy) underpinning our country. Making it a criminal offence (after all, it is a version of treason by repudiating the democratic ballot box as the ultimate tool of protest) is also a timely reminder that free speech has its limits. Parroting convenient and fashionable ‘unthinking’ slogans about unfettered freedom of speech furthers the cause of those who would use a democratic principle to bring down the very thing that enables it.
It’s easy to envision someone burning a flag to protest a single issue. That’s why it’s best to leave it as a matter of free speech and forego the Spanish Inquisition approach.
You need a few more fries upstairs, Big Mac.
FFS, The Spanish Inquisition?
And if your so keen on a full slather approach to ‘free speech’, is it fair to assume you oppose the banning of the any symbols of opinion, like Hamas flags which call for the beheading of all infidels, or Nazi symbols that call for the eradication of Jews and anybody who didn’t use enough sun block.
Yes.
Maybe why our leader is otherwise occupied and not ridding us of the moron of a former mayor!
Seems that there’s a hint there may be others in the Q too.

A very dangerous area for the vermin of the Opposition to be getting into. Most of their appointments were blatant favour bestowing, notably the CFO morphing into state Governor for aiding and abetting the ridiculous Palaszczuk overkill during covid.
The thing is, they all do not. When in government they sack and then install their own chosen people on government boards. Both parties do it. It’s gone on since dawn of time and will continue to go on. Everyone knows that they do it. The CCC obviously could t give a rats ass about it. Baird appointments have t passed the pub test in decades.
Jesus, my spelling and grammar was worse than normal. Been a long day and I’m a tired Prince.
You’re a tired little count … oh, look, The ‘Pie’s spelling is as bad as yours.
Sounds like ALP is trying to remain relevant.
As per a note a couple of weeks ago, 2 lefty ex senior polies went to China to kiss the ring of the new Emperor, and today Mzz Paltruck expresses her disapproval. Bit like glass houses and stones!!!

Also The USA’s nutter commented on the very impressive parade in China “he was not really interested” if he had looked at all of the seniors government leaders that were in attendance and all hobnobbing for several days, he should be VERY concerned as its clear that a new and very powerful bloc is gestating right now. and the leaders of the band Putin and “Rocket Man from Korea.
Just a few of the lads declaring their patriotism.

https://www.abc.net.au/news/2025-09-03/townsville-city-council-projects-over-budget/105651720
They all need to be chucked out! Now!
THIS A MAJOR MAJOR STORY.
https://www.abc.net.au/news/2025-09-03/townsville-city-council-projects-over-budget/105651720
This fine piece of investigative journalism by the ABC’s Chloe Chomicki may well be a watershed moment in the life of the current council’s administration. Current councillors re-elected from the Team Hill era will also have so explaining to do … as will Jenny Hill herself. It is simply disgraceful.
There are many key take out in this story, but here is the core that should spell major trouble for the current council administration, and perhaps the councillors for not being the sentinels some of them should have been during the closing Jenny Hill years …. and our current situation, whatever that is.
From the ABC story:
No consistent framework
QVC scored the council’s capability as 0.66 out of a potential score of five, finding TCC had no consistent project management framework.
“Often, projects are recognised by project managers as under-budgeted, but this isn’t raised as an issue until the budget is almost exhausted,” the QVC report stated.
The assessment found that, as of May 2024, Townsville City Council did not properly assess the benefits of projects, only assessed risk at the beginning of a project, and did not conduct formal stakeholder management for most projects.
The firm said cost blow-outs could be attributed to there being no consistent cost estimation tool used by TCC.
QVC also said business cases were not completed for most projects, that projects valued at less than $10 million were often outsourced for delivery, and that the council did not implement project assurance.
“Not all projects are approved based on the merits of their business cases or business justifications with any relevant alternate solutions where that is appropriate,” QVC said.
McCabe’s comment that Council sometimes has to “pivot”: we watch him personally pivot in Council meetings when he realises Councillors are not buying his insulting demands. Adopt this over 500 page proposal to give me executive powers, now, on the spot. Barely two weeks later: adopt this over 1000 page document defining planning for the city for at least the next decade. Now, on the spot.
There’s an underlying whiff of desperation that does seem to approximate a fear of impending Administration.
Maybe it was the QVC Report
https://www.abc.net.au/news/2025-09-03/townsville-city-council-projects-over-budget/105651720
… but the revelation (notably by the ABC, NOT the Townsville Bulletin) raises serious questions about our councillors. Did they know of this report, and if not, why not? This council seems to be beset by ‘untenable situations’, and the QVC Report is exactly the stuff that invites administration.
“Scoop” Chloe Chomicki Strikes again.
It is heartening to see that the decades of timidity and neglect of ‘real’ local news the ABC is being dropped in favour of actually initiating some investigative journalism.
Bulletin please note.
Joe was not his usual McCool self at this morning’s MIRRA meeting.
If you’re talking/writing about our present Council and its over-Lords, they are definitely most ineffectual and self-absorbed/self-seeking/self-serving.
The council only exists to fill the bank accounts of the managers
Guy, you’d think as someone who has run multiple times to be elected to council, you’d know why council exists.
https://www.abc.net.au/news/2025-09-03/townsville-city-council-projects-over-budget/105651720
The following I pinched from the ABC edifying the TCC financial management and acumen. The root cause has to be years in the making. Why would any sane person aspire to be Mayor and inherent this mess.
Years ago there was a bruhaha when TCC staff preparing rates notices were domiciled in Melbourne.
This time it is…….. wait for it……… Norway.
In short:
A report obtained by the ABC reveals more than half of Townsville City Council’s projects were over budget during a three-year period.
An “organisational transformation” was led and is being delivered by the council’s former major projects manager who is now based in Norway.
What’s next?
The council says it hopes to have its new project management framework functional by the end of 2025.
Should we be surprised it has been the publicly funded ABC, and not the apparently still profitable privately -owned local paper, which has broken this story? Sadly no.
Also, how does the cost ot the Haughton stage 2 pipeline go from $195m in 2020 to $420m in 2024, and will the ratepayers – who have already been forced by the former Labor gov to stump up an extra $70m (and which rejected federal LNP funding at the expense of Townsville over a tricky GST swindel) – now be made by the LNP state gov to find the additional extra $140m? Apparently so.
Labor is so on the nose in Townsville, I can’t see them winning an election here, local, state or federal, for a very, very long time
Well, your last statement might be tempered by whatever action the Crisafulli Government decides. The LNP are already on the honker over the disgraceful cowardice in relation to con man Troy Thompson, and the MIA of the three local members.
Sandpiper, there is nothing “apparent” about the LNP government’s will in this matter. The Queensland government (not the Treasurer or the Premier personally) is paying for the Haughton2 pipeline and all its accessories – pump stations, high tension powerlines etc. Government public servants have had oversight of the financials of the project since Day1 so they are fully aware of the ballooning budget and the reasons for it. TCC had no say in any of that and should have no responsibility for the government’s, let alone the contractor’s shortcomings. The buck stops with them.
Threenames Thompson has gone very quiet again on social media. Hopefully it’s because he has received bad news. People in my circle haven’t even seen him around town of late. Maybe an overseas holiday paid for by that juicy salary? Or maybe he has finally realised that he is history, never coming back, a forgotten individual?
Or perhaps a very different more disheartening scenario: he has been quietly advised to pull his head in, stop dissing the council, to make it easier to be reinstated.
Team Hill and Ralston have left behind a shit show for McCabe to try and clean up. The state of TCC is something that all Boards should consider before ever hiring Hill and Ralston. And the ratepayer should be reminded that some of those team Hill councillors are still in office and they should be asked some serious questions relating to their role in this ongoing issue.
Agree, the ‘Pie is all over it.
But the Astonisher isn’t, not a single mention on any site or the paper at the time of writing this.. This was their lead story on digital this morning.
And just in case the prospective advertiser didn’t think that was enough, the iditor chimed in with this.

This is a fucking editorial!! … even a small hick town’s Daily Arse Kisser wouldn’t demean themselves like this. You should be ashamed of this insult to this city, editor Jill Poulson, not just for printing this but for buckling under to the unmerited interfering demands of the paper’s general manager Suzanne Wilson – a woman formerly the head of News Corp Sales Department.
Which figures.
Sadly.
It would appear that ‘fish movements and mangroves’ are holding up the consrtuction of the Sooning St bridge, if Foodtrucks is to be believed???
https://www.facebook.com/7NEWSTownsville
MM, it’s a bit disingenuous to suggest that the TCC update on the Sooning Street bridge reconstruction might not be believable because it comes from the divisional councillor and Acting Mayor A-M Greaney. In fact the 4 page TCC City Projects update, maildropped this week, states in part:
“On 4 July 2025, Council and SARA [State Assessment and Referral Agency] met to refine the fish passage design and outline the next steps for the development application. Final advice will be provided after DPI reviews the plans. Aligning the design with the State Development Assessment Provisions (SDAP) will simplify the assessment process. Following these three meetings, Council received ‘in-principle’ approval in mid-July to proceed with the design. . . . .Once SARA grants final approval we will share the details with residents.”
The red tape appears to be of the government’s making, not council. If only the bridge was in an Environmental Management and Conservation Zone we could ask Deputy Premier Bleijie to pull his finger out and do something useful.
Maybe their all too busy sitting around with stop/go lollipops on the Mt Spec road to Paluma.
Chasmac,
It has been 2 months since the July meeting with SARA, surely TCC should be contacting SARA and our local member – asking what is the hold up?
You jump to defend council and Greaney for there incompetence in this matter.
At the June meeting – residents were told the bridge would be completed by November.
Now Greaney is saying ‘Work should begin in November’ yet she told the ABC ‘work should begin in December’? Let see what date council pulls out of the hat for this Saturday’s meeting?
Is is any wonder residents are pissed off!
As for City Projects update – ‘does the right hand know, what the left hand is doing?’
Could be a money maker for your little group which is classed as a ‘charity’ with this proposed Environmental Management and Conservation Zone code assesement. Might see a new shop open out there in Bolgers Bay?
You are quite correct, MM. TCC should be contacting SARA and our local member – asking what is the hold up. But as you have already observed yourself, the “holdup” has something to do with ‘fish movements and mangroves’, ie. nothing to do with TCC.
Chasmac,
TCC received the funding $7.4m Fed/State Govt monies in March this year.
It has taken council till July to have their paperwork submitted?
Who is dragging their feet?
Why was council spruiking – completion date of Novemeber?
This council has a major problem in communication at all levels.
You said it!! Every time they are dragged kicking and screaming to answer obvious questions, they are so inept all they do is create even more questions.
Bolgers Bay Boutique.
Love it.
EDITORIAL NOTE TO MAGGIE MOGGIE. This ain’t Facebook. It is not the policy of The Magpie’s Nest to publish whole articles lifted from the Bulletin unless there is an element of information/criticism to be added regarding said article. If you wish to make an original comment on the matter in the article, you are welcome to do so.
Had no idea the TB had published the press release in question in full, as an article, don’t subscibe to the Bully.
Their subscription base gets smaller each calendar year. A completely childish daily publication filled with adverts and silly articles. No meat and potatoes, just folly.
Some interesting news on that front in tomorrow’s Nest.
Looking forward to it Mr Magpie. Your weekly blog always contains some interesting stories, facts and tidbits.
Sometimes. Unlike certain publications and platforms, The Magpie does not resort to manufacturing ‘news’, so some weeks don’t measure up to expectations. For which the Magpie offers to disappointed readers his thoughts and prayers.
The Townsville Bulletin’s “Best of Townsville” polls are a joke.
No declaration of the number of votes, just percentages, which suggests only a minute percentage of Townsville’s 200,000 population had a say.
Then there’s the fact that you have to be a TB subscriber to be eligible to vote, ruling out the tens of thousands of residents who don’t buy, or even rad, the paper.
There’s also the prospect of manipulation, with businesses rounding up staff, relatives and friends to vote for them.
It’s hilarious that some of these “Best Of” winners are now including the TB title in their advertising, which becomes a bit confusing when last year’s winner and this year’s “Best” both claim to be top dog.
It’s all insulting nonsense.
But Doug how will I know how to find Townsvilles best Dentist, Coffee Shop, Gym, Meat Pie, Fish and Chips, Beautician, Pharmacist, or Hairdresser. I’d have to ask friends for recommendations.
Besides its the only positive thing the paper does. Everything else on their Facebook page is ragebait.
And what about the best news service, best local reporter (definitely not Lighton Smith), best poodle groomer, best looking plumbers crack, best public shitter and so the endless infantile news articles go…….
… and all of them “Exclusive”.
Exclusive access to find out where Australia’s worst criminals went to school.
WTF is wrong with the people in charge at that parrot cage liner that they think this is newsworthy?
Indeed, The ‘Pie initially wondered about that other story about where the state’s worst crims are housed (jailed) before realising this was the Astonisher’s way of excusing revisiting some gruesome shock/horror dross from the past.
Any, in Sunday’s blog, The ‘Pie has some big news about this hopeless rag.
… and all with an ‘EXCLUSIVE” tag!!
DK
There is one profession that has been unfairly shunned. It has been around for ever and provides an invaluable service to those who need it. A photo gallery of the 10 best may be a conversation starter.
I refer, of course to Townsville’s Ten Best……..
Prostitutes.
I am sure there are abundant Astonisher subscribers willing to nominate and vote for this category. Perhaps Nesters even?
You are sadly out of touch, Willie, ladies who hawk the fork are left overs and few in number, driven out of business by competition from the tottering doxies of Via Vomitorium most nights of the week.
Perhaps you are right. It has been a long time since I have been allowed out, or able to get out, at night.
Does the Mandaley still berth at the Hayles terminal in Flinders Street?
No, but there’s plenty of us who wish it still did.
The Paluma debacle is exactly that, a debacle. TMR is the worst government department one could ever hope (or not hope) to deal with. Remember, these are the same fuckwits that give us questionable speed limits and poorly timed traffic lights. The further north that you go from Brisbane, the greater the level of fuckwittery. And let’s not even start to discuss poorly designed roads and roads in pisspoor condition.
Nope, the poor residents of Paluma will have another 2 years of this stop/go bullshit. Better pray that in the meantime we dont have a disastrous wet season!!
Here is Cr. Greaney’s take on yesterday’s council meeting
https://www.facebook.com/watch?v=536292019568743
The ‘Pie has no idea if comments are moderated, so I have no idea if this comment will remain up on the TCC site. No reason why it shouldn’t, and if for any reason it is removed, an explanation on how and why a public site is moderated is necessary.
Once again, Clr Greaney, it is what you didn’t say that makes you look out of touch, and even evasive. The council has had that damning report on project overruns and the shambles behind the scenes, partly left by Jenny Hill and her team … which included you. But this explosive report has been kept secret until exposed by an enterprising ABC journalist, but somehow, you appear not to care enough about Townsville citizens to offer an explanation and an action plan. These little chats are not enhancing your prospects of elevation to the mayoral robes … some would think quite the opposite.
thanks for posting, Moggie. I don’t do FB, but I’m still allowed to see these choice little snippets.
Malcolm,
while we are talking about TCC over runs , why is the new Picnic Bay Toilet $900K facility, still not open, a State Govt funded project?
It is a disgrace that the new amenties block was not open for the island’s biggest event the SMIRW, with Picnic Bay being the focus on Sunday for their Island Breeze Festival on Sunday.
Why has TCC ordered an electical switchboard from overseas?
See TCC Island Updates: Picnic Bay Public Amenities Renewal
‘Renewal Construction works at the Picnic Bay Public Amenities are nearing completion, with only the switchboard installation, electrical connections, and final commissioning remaining. While these tasks were initially scheduled for completion prior to the school holidays, a delay in the delivery of the SCADA switchboard (currently in transit from overseas) has extended the project timeline. Completion is now expected by the end of September. In the meantime, as part of the recent Local Street Artist Call Out, a local artist will be engaged to create a mural and bring life to one of the exterior walls.’
Five years later…
I missed this the other day but heres a video of a woman at the mach telling Nick Dametto there were neo Nazis at the rally and him refusing to do anything

Good on her.
Some sovereign citizens in the background waving a white ensign too.
Some good coverage of the 31 August Nazi marches, Townsville from 19:28 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GLRoFdeI_5Y
Australia Unites Against Government Corruption

This pinched from the first paragraph.
The organisers are linked to anti-vaxxers, conspiracy theorists and sovereign citizens.
Right, now lets get back to Townsville. How about Townsville Unites Against TCC Incompetence?
We could cause city wide disruption by blocking traffic on our very own Victoria Bridge.
Monday 8th September. Block from 9 AM. Disperse for a cup of tea about 10 past 9. That should get the message through.
Alert the Bulletin, they’ll be there, and will do a full report in Thursday’s paper.
Just below the Harvey Norman advert
So it’s a Where’s Waldo search?
You’re not going far enough, I suggest blocking all traffic on Victoria Bridge until the council is dismissed, not one car, truck or bike allowed across!
Cars and trucks have been blocked for more than 30 years, it’s those damned bikes that have kept the council in power.
Classic Trump faux pas addressing the media about renaming the Pentagon as Dept of War, he began with winning WW1 and II, then suddenly realised the US has not won another since then, so he stated.
“We could have won every war, but we really chose to be very politically correct or wokey,” said Trump, who was signing the 200th executive order of his second term.
Yeh! sure, tell that the women of Afghanistan and the general populous of so many other basket case US war eh hmmmm victories.
Vietnam?
Good news for Paul Johnson. He gets to keep his title “ Mr Invisible.” The Paulie with the beard at today’s MIRRA meeting was Paul Needham.
Reasonable turn out for the Oz/Puma rugby at Total Tools Stadium. Nowhere near a sell-out but perfect day for any sort of footy.
Go Wallabies.
Big last minute win for the Wallabies, 28-24 in extra time.
Great result, the Arg ides are no pushover nowadays, Oz rugby seems on the trail back.
(suggestion (or a response to profanity in this article): this Biblical verse: “Don’t use foul or abusive language. Let everything you say be good and helpful, so that your words will be an encouragement to those who hear them.” – Ephesians 4:29, New Living Translation version)
The only thing that makes The ‘Pie swear, Mario, are commenters who don’t fucking say to whom they are replying.
