From A Seat In Parliament To A Seat On The Pavement: The Rise And Fall of Les Walker.

That should more aptly be the ‘felling of Les Walker’. But be it council, parliament or pub, Les has demonstrated the same level of personal effectiveness and consciousness. But what now? It looks like the fix is in, as they say in boxing circles, with Les’s lewd lip and lecherous eye earning a wrist slap softer than ever Melania gave Donald. The Magpie postulates in public.

Would it be a better world if some of the woke folk would go back to sleep? A good argument for the yes case was made during the week. Cricket Australia gives itself an uppercut with one of the most grovelling and insulting rulings it has ever made.  but one of the most respected indigenous figures injects some quite sense and dignity into their idiocy.

An hilarious video take that will have the virtue signaller’s bunching their pantaloons in rage …

And a week of piss poor headlines .. we feature a couple …

Racehorse names: we’ve broached this subject before, but thoroughbred owners just can’ stop horsing around with naughty names. The Magpie has the latest on this smutty juvenile sniggering by millionaires.

All events and people fall into one of two categories … those you will always remember and those you can never forget … Trump’s graceless departure ensures he scores on both counts.

AND NOTE: No definitive result in Division 10 election at the time of publication, but the last report available had 65% of the vote counted and independent Fran O’Callaghan with a commanding 43% lead, over Team Jenny Hill car salesman Scott McElligott, on 31%. Independent Carolyn Dare had 12%, lawyer Joel Thomas 11% and dear old perennial warhorse Harry Patel with just over 4% (personally, The ‘Pie hopes Harry gets his deposit back, he’s selfless persistence in participating deserves it). This may all be old news by the time you read this, but no point in commenting at this stage.

Now onward …

Les’s Ultimate Fall Back Position – On His Fall Back Position

As one reader pointed out here, Les is no longer Messagebank Walker … he is Memory Blank Walker. But this mug shot should forever remind him.Screen Shot 2021-01-23 at 1.48.14 pm

Please note: not photoshopped, police issue.

His position – to him – is simple … blanket amnesia which makes for blanket amnesty from responsibility. And he mysteriously believes it’s a good reason to NOT resign, apparently. Everyone has a different take on these demeaning shenanigans. Bentley for instance, believes it is a lack of proper training, And unlike a computer, you have to punch information more than once into the member for Mundingburra..

Screen Shot 2021-01-23 at 11.39.18 pm

Now the problem with Les’s head trauma – apart from the difficulty of actually knowing when he’s concussed or if it’s just business as usual – is that in any other profession, let’s say Rugby League or the cops, such an HIA would have him sidelined, possibly for the season. But he being a vital number in Palaszczuk’s Platoon, the order was ‘soldier on, soldier’, albeit, with a dainty Manolo Blahnik from the premier to the Walker coit. ‘I told him it wasn’t the behaviour I expect, and he’s apologised.’ Oh, well, that’s OK then, is it? Yup, that’s it, folks.

Questions and lies abound. Here’s one from The ‘Pie. That mug shot of Walker the police have released, when and where was it taken? At some mobile facility in Via Vomitorium before he went to hospital. Or maybe the next day or two, in which case, it is pretty obvious what state he had been in. And the timing of the pic is kinda interesting, considering we were told he hadn’t received any ban after he and his lawyer went to the cops on Monday. The cops said they’d made a mistake, and then said no they hadn’t, he was banned and fined. There’s a fib in there somewhere.

Les amnesia

But the real lies, the lies … and the splatter-spray of lofty insults to the average intelligence couldn’t have been more widespread if an incontinent Santa Gertrudis had dropped its load in front of a wind farm in a cyclone.

Let’s examine what a ‘jittery’ Walker said at a reluctant media conference.

Screen Shot 2021-01-22 at 9.57.43 pm

First, he said “I understand why some people have called for him to resign.’ But does he actually understand why so many people are furious with him? Apparently not, because his convoluted logic gave us this: ‘No, I won’t be resigning, because I can’t recall the incident and the police are dealing with it.’ Say what!?! So because you can’t remember what happened, you bear no responsibility for your situation … try running that in a court of law, say in a manslaughter or DV matter.

Then this: ‘I can understand that comment, but I’ll just have to work hard and apologise.’ No Les, you don’t understand … either your position as an MP, or your position now in this community.

Les on poavement Screen Shot 2021-01-18 at 10.04.38 am

He also faded in and out of classic pollie-speak. ‘I will have to double down on my efforts to regain the trust of my electorate and the entire city.’ ‘Les, ‘regain’ clearly implies you seek to get back something you previously had before this clusterfuck, but you seek something you never actually had. Frankly mate, The Magpie has no hesitation in saying you have NEVER had the electorate’s trust, you were seen as the lesser evil.

The ‘Pie had a rare chortle in all this with his line ‘my wife is quite upset with this ordeal.’ Make that ‘furious with me’, mate, she knows you’ve got form in this area – but one guesses you can’t recall the hushed-up incident at the casino a while back when you had to pay for expensive dental work for damage you inflicted in an assault that never saw the light of day in the media. Little wonder your poor bloody wife wasn’t out there standing by her man, and is instead yet again coming to terms with the fact that she is stuck with a belligerent drongo who’s bad news when he’s on the drink. Les, old mate, The ‘Pie reckons Mrs Walker will need all her self-discipline for you to have an even chance of making 57 intact.

But then, you followed such insulting stupidity with the utmost gall, comparing yourself and your shit-faced behaviour with frontline medical personnel who’ve been assaulted by drunks and other assorted low-lifes on the job– a lawless mind-set, incidentally, about which you and your mob refuse to anything tangible except loftily tell us a secret plan that we are not allowed to be privy to. “We find crime fighters in these situations all the time,” you told the media on Friday morning. Ummm, what situation is would that be, mon frère? Drunkenly pushing and shoving someone in bar because they’d objected to you behaving lewdly towards a young woman, and then getting comprehensively snotted? No, they don’t face that sort of stuff at any time, Les, that’s just empty gum flapping.

Then, this: ‘We’ve had medical people assaulted in their line of work. It can happen to anyone. It’s not good.’ That is simply doesn’t make any sense whatsoever in the context of this matter, and is an insulting conflation of two very separate issues.

Les Walker will be hoping against hope that the cops don’t charge the two other blokes with assault, and worse, if they then they contest the charge. Because that means all the grubby details of the night will be exposed in open court. And that just mean you will kiss your political arse ta-ta.

Les, if you had one shred of decency and integrity (ha!) you would do the honourable thing (ha!) and resign. Mate, with your carefully cultivated dimpled grin, fashionably greying hairstyle, and sparkle-arkle teeth, you could perhaps become the male model you always fancied yourself to be.

Reform yourself and who knows, maybe you could become the poster boy for AA.

Geez, what a town … a mayor facing a careless driving death charge, and a state MP knocked out in a pub brawl that he says he can’t remember. Christ, what next … wouldn’t surprise if we hired the Melbourne consulting bloke who designed the dehumanising mass sackings at the Townsville Council as it’s CEO … oh, wait a minute …

But She’s Still On The Job

These disaster don’t jusy happen, you know … they have to be carefully planned.

Cricket Australia’s Clayton Inclusion Policy

Screen Shot 2021-01-23 at 11.58.30 pm

The ‘Pie wonders how many would’ve noticed if CA had just gone ahead with this policy of just referring to the fixtures as taking place on January 26, without feeling it necessary to unzip the fly of the aboriginal industry for a quick public pleasuring? Hardly anybody would have cared or even been aware if the matches were just said to be taking place on January 26.

Unknown

But no, the woke folk at CA – led by their oxymoronic ‘diversity and inclusion’ manager Adam Cassidy, son of Australia’s leading public leftie Barrie Cassidy – decided on some ill-thought-out virtue signalling, in the name of what they mystifyingly call ‘inclusiveness’ . In practical terms, that now means least 97% of Aussies are feeling very un-included. And insulted. What were they thinking? That repudiating the one day of the year when we should all be included in a national group hug as Australians would not be seen as an insult, and a craven caving -in to vested fashionable interests?

Ash Barty eb861802c59e3e8cc712fa7a2f6b74b

One of Australia’s most high-profile and beloved heroines, tennis world number one Ash Barty made Cricket Australian look like the divisive bastards they are when she refused to endorse their stupidity. When asked by the decision she said: “I’m an extremely proud Indigenous woman. I’m a proud Australian. I celebrate that every day. For me, it doesn’t really matter what day it is. “I’m staying true to my values. Every single day I want to be kind, I want to be honest, I want to be humble. I want to give the best that I can. That’s all that matters for me.”

How jarring it must be for the woke folk when an intelligent and dignified woman puts things in perspective. And them in their place.

In Fact, You Can Bet Ash Barty Will Be In The Sights Of The Outrage Industry …

… because she also repudiated the News Ltd-led attack on Margaret Court receiving an Australia Day honour for her incomparable tennis achievements, because of her personal and outspoken religious convictions about the gay community. Sure, she’s a dingbat on this front, everyone knows that, but she’s not getting her upgraded honours award for any of that homophobic codswallop, she’s getting it for her unmatched tennis achievements. And Margaret Court has never to The Pie’s knowledge used her sporting history and awards to push her silly message. And everyone else seems to forget any balance here, because through her playing days, she brought awareness, honour and kudos to this growing country.

The Courier Mail covered itself in shame when they posted this on line on Saturday afternoon.

Screen Shot 2021-01-23 at 9.17.26 pm

Now looking at that, you are meant to conclude that Ash Barty has hopped on the cancel culture bandwagon and has ripped into the greatest female tennis player in the history of the game. The despicable use of the out-of-context quote ‘’I don’t agree’ purposely makes Barty say something that she definitely DID NOT say, in the context it implied. Far from it. When you go to the story itself,  where we get to what Barty REALLY said:

“The people who make those decisions sit on a panel or a board and make those decisions for a reason,” Barty said.

“You cannot take away all of the results and all of what Margaret achieved on the tennis court, it was absolutely remarkable.

“But from the point of her personal views, I don’t agree with them.

“That is really all I have to say about it, there are people who make those decisions and it’s not my decision.”

And it would be a better world if that’s all anyone had to say about it. Again, quiet, measured and dignified, words which certainly do not apply to this disgraceful piece of viciously biased reporting.

Here’s A Little Something To Cheer Up All The Woke Folk Out Three.

Don’t laugh too hard, this might not be too far from reality, if certain chuckleheads have their way.

Racing Authorities Narrowly Avoid A …Errr … Cock-Up

Naming a horse that cost you tens of thousands of dollars, often lots more, would seem a serious aspect of a serious investment. But not all the time, it seems. Schoolboy bumour is alive and well among the horse racing millionaire class.

13,000 names are approved every year by Racing Australia , as foals become two-year-olds. RA has a team of 12 vetting (no pun) the submissions, and there are strict guidelines.

1540865796-1102-against-the-rules

The desired monikers are often clever amalgamation of names of the sire and dam. Leonardo Da Hinchi is an example, being the offspring Hinchinbrook out of Portrait. In this category, The ‘Pie remembers a racing writer years ago telling him that French champion ‘La Filou’ (French for pickpocket), sired Big Filou in NZ, and subsequently several foals by Big Filou were cleverly named: The Dip, and two Melbourne Cup winners Red Handed and Light Fingers. Neat.

Some names are private jokes – Who Shot The Barman was named for the favourite saying of the owner’s grandmother, who would bellow this question if she arrived in a pub and wasn’t offered a drink. Booze is often involved in horse names, and one guesses it was a long session that decided on the name Sotally Tober. One of the cleverest names which had us all chortling was Partiva … sounds classy and Latin, but in fact is Part (1V) section (A) of Tax Office regulations regarding certain assets that can be claimed as deductions.

But in fact the biggest groaning laughs are for the names that didn’t make past the eagle eyes at RA. And in this category, two names just this month have been given the red light.

Whodda thort, Puff the Magic Dragon to cure you drippin’ dragon. The story also tells us:
In Australia, gonorrhoea is the second most common sexually transmitted infection and there is no longer a single reliable antibiotic to treat it because the bacteria is particularly good at developing resistance. CBD has been shown in the UQ studies to work for a lot longer than other antibiotics.

Of course the number 1 most common sexually transmitted infection is children. Particularly in certain Townsville suburbs.

A Graceless Departure, But Who Cares, He’s Gone …

We no longer have to wake wondering what the fuck the mobster president and traitor Trump  gone and done now.  And we’ll be more delighted than disheartened when we next hear about him in the Senate impeachment proceedings, and after that when various state authorities catch up with him and his thieving brood. Let the pictures tell the story of the week in the USA, starting with a grateful country’s final finger salute of farewell.

And Finally, The ‘Pie Doesn’t Post Artsy Farty Stuff Usually, But …

Fran may win the TCC Seat she have got anyway, justice is served on JHill. And on to other matters, the best opinion piece I read this week re Cricket Aust dropping references to Australia Day was written by Jacinta Price for The Daily Telegraph, reprinted in the CM. Excellent writing and nailed the issue of Indigenous problems well. Recommend everyone to read it, it is still on the CM Opinion page.

    • Ducks Nuts says:

I’ve not read Jacinta’s opinion piece as I no longer hold her opinions in great regard. I used to think she was a voice worth listening to. And then I spent time understanding the situation. Jacinta is considered a sell out and is disliked in the communities because she doesn’t actually do anything to help. She pushes her way onto tribal lands and expects to be welcomed. There’s more than meets the eye here.

  2. Jenny Wren says:

    Hi Magpie,
I was on the Bulletin site this morning to check the Division 10 results to find that there is a clip of the Mayor Jenny Hill announcing the 2019-20 budget. The line underneath says:
“The average homeowner will see a rise in their general rates and utility charges under the Townsville City Council’s 2019-20 budget.

I don’t know how long it will stay up but I can’t give you a link as it is behind the paywall. Are we into recycling budgets now?

  3. Frequent flyer says:

Looks like Fran has won a seat on the council. What a breath of fresh air.
Full marks to the Div 10 residents who sent a strong message to Jenny Hill and her partner in crime, Anna.

  4. Mike Douglas says:

Not a great week for Labor Townsville City Council with ex deputy Mayor , Councillor and Mundingburra MP fined $800 and banned from the Safe city Precinct . With special State Cabinet meeting here this week and the Premier here for Australia Day will “memory blank “ be able to attend to represent his constituents which he is paid ? . Back to Council , $150k dent to the coffers for Division 10 re-run only to possibly get another independent . Has Walker st corridors thinned again with another high paid Executive given the same ratepayers holiday handout as Adele . The acting ceo before Prins has not been seen .

  5. Capillus pica says:

Walker is part of Townsville’s problem, not the solution. We live in a city where crime, violence and alcohol related assaults are out of control. What do we have? A member of parliament (who is given the title ‘Honorable’), who was obviously intoxicated and then acted in a way that caused a fight that he was involved in. The disgraceful photos of him holding up a mugshot, sitting dishevelled in front of a police paddy wagon and then appearing on TV with a face wound. Pathetic.

And equally pathetic is the state Premier and her response. Anna Alphabet is another spineless chump not prepared to hold her leaders to account. Her condoning Walkers actions also shows her commitment to stamping out alcohol related violence – ZERO.

The people of Townsville need to demand action be taken over this incident, we expect the Premier to act immediately and we also expect that our local Leaders actually be community leaders, not community drunken fighters with anger management problems.

    • Dave of Kelso says:

      Cp,
We had a chance to improve the quality of government at the recent Local and State elections. Sadly, those of us with higher aspirations for our community are in the minority.

    • No More Dredging says:

Capillus, the premier is unable to throw a member out of parliament – even if she wanted to. That is the prerogative of the electorate at the next election. She could try to have Walker thrown out of the Labor Party but that would be a joke even worse than the current farce. It looks like Phantom Les will be the ghost that doesn’t walk.

      • Alahazbin says:

NMD, Obviously the bar is lower in the labor as opposed to the LNP. Costigan got kicked out because he ‘leered’ at young women. No charges laid. The dishonourable MLA for Mundingburra allegedly went a little bit further and still has his snout in the trough.

      • Capillus pica says:

NMD, we know you will be relieved that Mike Walker Tyson will stay on in Government. Losing Labor politicians is not good for your business interests. Who else are you going to worship, eat canopes with or swap those bundles of cash with if Labor affiliates are booted out?

  6. Me@home says:

Walker, you are a disgrace. Do the honorable thing and resign. We deserve better.

  7. Achilles says:

Coincidence? Biden in and China instructs its navy and South China Sea perloined islands they may now use live ammunition at their discretion, China flies nuke capable jets over Taiwan seas, Hong Kong crack down escalates

    • winnie says:

what do you expect when career politicians get control again of the US Government

the other guys will try it on against the sook Democratic leaders, the green fringe and the left wing media (where is Steve from BG?)

at least Trump tried to drain the swamp and as he kept saying he was the first non career President

      • The Magpie says:

Well he was right about that last bit. And drain the swamp? He opened the sluice gates of criminal self-interest that swamped Washington in the past four years.

      • The Ryobi Man says:

Trump didn’t drain the swamp. He pardoned it.

Shortly after pardoning congressmen and lobbyists convicted of corruption, Trump releases an order at 1:07 a.m. on the 6th January revoking his own ethics executive order from 2017, freeing his own former aides from the limits he had imposed on their ability to lobby the government.

Corrupt right to the bitter end.

        • Tropical says:

At least Trump did not pardon terrorists like Clinton and Obama, one of whom is now running the BLM anarchist organisation.

          • The Magpie says:

Awww, diddums, still having little weepies, are we? A little tug to console ourselves, eh? There, there, the nice men in the white coats will be along soon.

          • Steve, Belgian Gardens says:

“one of whom is now running the BLM anarchist organisation”

No need to specify which one, the thought of either Clinton or Obama running BLM are equally laughable.

          • The Magpie says:

There is no such organisation, except in the minds of sat sweaty little fucks sitting on their basement beds with glowing laptops.

  8. I’ll be plucked says:

So, WHAT EXACTLY is The Qld Premier and the ALP going to do about this Walker matter? He says he won’t be resigning, so he’s had his chance to go ‘honourably’.

The Premier and the ALP party machine need to step up and in right now and have this unfit person removed from office. This behaviour is manifestly unacceptable and the matter needs to be closed and the only way that will happen is this person being marched from office!!!

    • No More Dredging says:

Plucker, it would be an outrage if a premier or a political party (especially the Labor Party) could :

” . . step up and in right now and have [an] unfit person removed from office.”

Les Walker might be an apologetic twit but he’s far from the worst person in the Queensland parliament. In any case, he hasn’t gone far enough to break the ‘rules’ that we have allowed parliamentarians (of all stripes) to write for themselves. Sure, he should resign but he probably won’t and that won’t be any surprise.

      • The Magpie says:

        Hasn’t he?

And grow up, NMD, the childish ‘he’s not the worst …’ is irrelevant and no excuse for his behaviour. It’s akin to ‘they’re all doing it’ as a reason to be let off some caught-out wrong doing.

  9. Cantankerous but happy says:

If her energy is anything to go by than Fran O’Callaghan will be good for this town, I voted Friday and even after a couple of weeks of standing outside that stadium she still had plenty of energy and was clearly the standout of the bunch. There is no doubt her passion is the proposed industry precinct at Woodstock but let’s hope she is just as passionate about the other things listed on her election priorities like earlier releases from Ross River dam.

    • The Magpie says:

Let’s watch her closely, she may even turn out to be mayoral material.

      • No More Dredging says:

‘Pie, not even becoming mayor would get her, or any other councillor, closer to making earlier releases from Ross River dam – fortunately. Maybe she will get closer to whatever is actually happening at Woodstock. But how will we know? Is the entire council an information vacuum or is some information available for all councillors who sit around the table?

        • The Magpie says:

Your obsession with water releases from the dam belies your obvious panic that this issue is a weakness in your heroine Jenny. The ‘Pie made no mention of ANY issue but merely said O’Callaghan might be mayoral material. you try too hard too often, sport.

  10. Shadow Boxer says:

Hey Messagebank you fool! Your ‘career’ as a politician is now over – resign and show us you have taken some responsibility for your recent actions and behaviour in Downtown ‘Ville.

  11. The Magpie says:

The ‘Pie has watched these two clips so often he is exhausted from laughing. Melania Trump so elegantly gives the ‘fuck you’ finger to Donald and his last band of rag tag supporters. She was clearly off to read up on her pre-nup, but gpd luck getting anything out of this busted-arse chiseler.

  12. Bentley says:

It seems to me that Australians in general are today not racists but are divided by culture. Some minority groups just will not assimilate and continue to be thorns in the side of an otherwise harmonious population upon whom they rely for support. Pauline Hanson attempted to address this problem years ago and was subsequently labeled a racist by the media. Let’s celebrate Australia Day on Australia Day.

    • Cappuccino in hand says:

If Australia Day was moved to another day, any day, no one would would care a couple of years later. Australia Day has only been around officially since 1994. There are a bunch of other dates that would suffice. Best if a day 1 of a test cricket match can be played on it. Just sayin.
A date move would take the wind out of the sails of the sorry mob and it may quieten down the right supremiscists that want to bash the crap out of our indigenous history whatever the subject.
I was a spectator at Sydney Harbour 1988. It was an amazing day. Never forget. Proud Australian. But if the date is used to celebrate division, change it. It’s just a date in the calendar.

      • The Magpie says:

But those who want to celebrate division on this issue will then just shift their attention to that date. Any old spurious excuse will do.

        • Steve, Belgian Gardens says:

That doesn’t necessarily follow. People aren’t protesting the concept of Australia, they have specific issues with 26 January as our national day.

          • The Magpie says:

            See Henry Reynolds article.

          • Steve, Belgian Gardens says:

Same issue would apply to celebrating the event on another day. Better to make our national day the anniversary of Federation, or better, the date we become a republic or finalise the treaty process.

          • The Magpie says:

Exactly. You have precisely spelt out the strategy. Just as well we’re aware of reverse racism.

          • Steve, Belgian Gardens says:

Oh no a secret strategy to change the date of our national day! That’s the whole point of the discussion, Pie! You’re making as much sense as Tropical now – what on earth is “reverse racism” and what does it have to do with anything?

          • The Magpie says:

What is reverse racism? Look in the mirror.

      • Dutch Reverend says:

Even if we didn’t celebrate Australia Day on the 26th January, it would still be marked as invasion day and the marches would still continue.

        • The Magpie says:

But as black armband historian Henry Reynolds points out, that date is actually in doubt in historical accuracy. He argues WE could easily choose another date. So could THEY.

          • Cockie says:

Good point made in the texts to Editor TB today, that the objectors and those claiming compensation should lobby and sue the British Government.

          • Hondaman says:

And they WILL!!! The anger evident in protestors like the Aboriginal woman with the mask screaming to destroy Australia cannot be overlooked. This sort of hysteria won’t be going away any time soon, same as ‘ always was ‘ rhetoric chanted by the thousands of marchers. What exactly do they want??? If only some one from their mob could come up with a united plan to be debated by sensible people we might somehow work out an equitable solution that doesn’t revolve around MONEY!! Christ knows how much we throw at the Indigenous Industry now per year, and if they do only represent 3% of the population (though there seemed to be a lot of ring-ins on parade) how hard can it be? Over to you, the ones screaming for change!- maybe Steve could slam a proposal together for us, he seems to have their interests at heart?

        • Tropical says:

Yep. rename Australia Day invasion day. We can then go to the High Court and get landrights made null and void.

  15. Steve Factsonli says:

It’s odd that Les “it’s a knockout” Walker can’t remember what happened at the Mad Cow the other night, his mate that I had a couple of ales with the other day, who was right there as it happened remembers it well, including cleaning his bloodied face before picking him up off the sticky cow floor.

    • The Magpie says:

You know, you have touched on something The ‘Pie was initially alarmed about but it got lost in the hubbub. But now is found … Memory Blank should undergo tests for various forms of unpleasantness, and if his gob was lolling open anywhere near the Mad Cow floor, christ knows what he’s got.

Right, it is up to you to get for us, from Mate of Memory Blank, a blow by blow account of the evening. How exciting

  16. wildcolonialboy says:

Now Magpie, I know you like to stick the boot in to the Astonisher and, most of the time with good reason, but your criticism of their hot spot headline is drawing one hell of a long bow. Yes, some parts of the country at different times have been labelled pandemic hot spots, but when was the last time any suburb in Townsville was so designated? The eatery’s own branding uses the words “hot pot”, so I reckon it’s a fairly harmless and vaguely entertaining headline. Surely you don’t seriously think a reader is going to assume this business (or the suburb it’s located in) has been declared a pandemic hot spot?

    • The Magpie says:

You have clearly undergone a successful humour bypass, purging you of any pesky irony. And that jibe concerning a phrase that has only had ONE meaning over the past 12 months is hardly sticking the boot in.

  17. Div10 Wanderer says:

Pie, I am now fondly remembering some classic old Thoroughbred names that snuck through before the PC Police arrived at Racing Aust. There was the very popular & successful Richard Cranium in Melbourne in the 80’s, but who could forget Hoof Hearted ripping home to the excitement of the race caller.

However it was Japan who topped them all this week with a show of up yours to the PC naming mob, when on Wednesday ‘Shita Bed’ snuck home at juicy odds of $201 in Race 2 at Tokyo City Keiba. I shit you not, in what was a crappy result for punters!

In regards to the Les Walker’s shenanigans of this last week I was going to say something nice in his defence, I just can’t remember what I was going to say now, if in fact there was anything at all nice to say? Ohhh & go Fran we’ve all got the Popcorn ready, oh yes that’s what it was…thanks Les for all the entertainment & for helping us with the big up yours to Jenny, you truly are the gift that keeps giving!

  18. Twelfth Man says:

I though Cricket Australia turned into a bunch of fuckwits under James
Sutherland, but it would seem that the stupidity continues. The ongoing clusterfuck between CA and Ch 7 is never ending, rip off prices to see the game and crappy commentating is never-ending, retrenching staff before COVID had really bitten in, and now their refusal to acknowledge the phrase ‘Australia Day’. The lunatics are in charge of the asylum. Morons.

  19. Frequent flyer says:

Now that there are 2 independents on council, hopefully Sue Blom will wake from her sleep and assist Fran Can in throwing some light on the goings-on behind Jenny Hill’s veil of secrecy.
Who knows, if Fran and Sue form an alliance it might lead to a whole team of genuine independents contesting the next local government elections.

    • Ducks Nuts says:

Hopefully having 2 independents will put an end to Jenny Hill’s bullying of Sue Blom. Jenny thinks, because she felt she was treated a certain way when she was the only Labor affiliated councillor, she can treat Sue that way too. There’s no high ground when you deal with Jenny. It’s all wrestling in the mud.

    • Bushy says:

I must correct you on sue blom. She hasnt been sleeping up this way. Shes been very proactive. Unfortunately she has been portrayed this way but you look at what the suburbs look like on ocean side of highway compared to ryders side ( deeragun). The whole city looks like shit but at least our whole area is looking like its maintained. Most if not all of our park areas are cut down now, that are accessible. She also had to deal with a very expensive bridge fix after our failed crime crack down by Labor resulted in a stolen car being burnt out. You call her she actually answers the phone, in my experience, not a PA. Her area consists of a huge land mass compared to other divisions. And lets face it when your the only member in a group of closed door puppets that is trying her best for the community but is starved of any airtime in the media due to the mayor taking it all for her own good. I feel sue has just said fuck it ill look after my area like I was voted in to do. What more could she do if she approached the meadia to air anything when you have a mayor, deputy mayor and sidekicks ready to say shes lieng everytime and who control the madia. Not a good look for re-election. Sues definitely not perfect but being asleep in your eyes isnt correct, remember she voted to NOT have a by-election. But did the media make a big thing of it?? Thats my point. I would like nothing more then these 2 girls to get up and sort out TCC but we all dont know what its like in that environment obviously because its all secret. Im betting the mayor will have them sitting apart at both ends of the table to try not let them speak. Fran definitely wont get walkers chair.

      • The Magpie says:

The Magpie’s delete finger was hovering when he read your first sentence, Sue Blom’s sleeping arrangements are none of this blog’s business. But as The ‘Pie read on, he saw what you meant and were making a valid number of points. You can guess what allegiances drive certain commenters on this blog.

        • Bushy says:

I can only answer that by say she has become a very good friend from my dealings with her. Shes respectable and will listen as well as try get back to you in good time. Every time I spoke with her she never once mentioned any ill will towards a fellow councillor. I think that says alot of the person. But unless sue has turned to liking females like myself, I cant say I know what her sleeping arrangements are either. But thank you for allowing my veiws published.

      • Critical says:

It’s great to hear that Sue Blom, one out of the 11 councillor’s if yiu count Mullet in as a councillor is actually doing something for the city. Liam Mooney is totally useless, I know a couple of people who have contacted him months ago and asked him to have an old gold coloured Valiant Station Wagon removed from the road pavement of Bent Street, Mundingburra but it still sits there. It was flooded during Jenny’s flood of February 2019 and has four flat tyres, doors are open, rust has taken over the vehicle, it has been vandalised and is a general eyesore in the street.
To make this whole scenario more laughable, TCC recently did maintenance work in the street and placed a roadworks sign directly in front of this vehicle and it didn’t even occur to TCC staff to report this abandoned vehicle.
Maybe TCC Councillor’s support staff or the publicity lot will read this and have it towed away because useless Mooney certainly doesn’t seem to have the energy to do anything at all.

        • The Magpie says:

          Pic pls.

FFS folks, lots of good info like this floats into the Nest, but would have more impact with pix, which can always be sent to email hidden; JavaScript is required

The lack of pics is why the initially very popular FB page Tatty Townsville has almost petered out.

        • The Magpie says:

Well, well, well, look what The Magpie found on the Tatty Townsville FB page …. this was submitted on February 2020, and it had been parked there in Bent Street at least two years as said, without moving.

          • Droopy draws says:

It’s not the ‘man of the moments’ car is it? Has a tendency to leave his car around town…
Bent Street, Mundingburra? Member for ??? Hmmmm…..

The street name is a pretty apt in this case.

    • Alahazbin says:

Paul Jacobs letter in the astonisher on Saturday was good. By having two independents on council, one can second the others motions, and then there will be debate on the issue. Should bring out some transparency.

      • The Magpie says:

        Excellent, long overdue.

      • emmsee51 says:

Except if the other councillors don’t want the matter discussed, they can just force a tabling or gag discussion.
We need more accountability but I fear 2 independants are pushing the proverbial stick Alahazbin!

  20. Elusive Butterfly says:

“These racist comments are grubby and disgusting and below the standards that we should expect to the elected officials in our country,”
A quote from our esteemed Deputy Premier, Steven Miles, commenting on a Facebook post from LNP Federal MP Andrew Laming.
Laming was commenting on the Australia/Invasion Day storm in a teacup issue.
Take out the “racist comments” and insert “behaviour” and Mr. Miles sums up Les Walker’s actions beautifully.
    No double standard here Steven!

  21. NQ Gal says:

If you don’t want to celebrate Australia Day on Tuesday, fine, just go to work as usual and don’t collect public holiday loading on your pay.
I’m waiting to see how many of the usual ABC presenters are on air that day.

  22. Frequent flyer says:

Re Sue Blom. Glad to hear she has been busy in her division, but what about taking on Jenny Hill and other councilors about the lack of transperancy in dodgy council dealings? Happy to be corrected, but haven’t heard a word from her on that. As for being a nice person, that was never questioned. Methinks you protesteth too much.

    • The Magpie says:

And just what sort of media oxygen do you think Clr Blom would get by that sort of action … which would require a lot of evidence that Jenny would make sure Blom wasn’t privy to. Jacob of all people was the only one to put whistle to lip, and that didn’t go very far with any follow-up thanks to our kiddy media. However, the fanfare with which Fran has arrived may make her the one to start serious questioning, the Bulletin is always trying to pick a winner to get readers (they have a bad punting record so far).

  23. Old Tradesman says:

I wonder if the mullet will blame Lights out Walker for the demise of her team Hill candidate in Division 10.

    • Keff says:

Mullet would certainly be entitled to kick Les’ arse. AnnaP will be coping the same thing at the next election.

The sad thing is hard working rank and file union members as well as some business people around town funded Les’ campaign. I would be looking for a refund.

      • The Magpie says:

Let the brown-nosing, attempted sweet talking begin. A good luck with that, me old Mullet.

If this doesn’t give away the dictatorial attitude of the Mullet, nothing does. It is ALWAYS the direct opponent who makes a call to concede, not the leader.

And as it turned out, her preferred candidate McElligott (she chose not to make Thomas because she did a deal with the left) made a cowardly graceless exit by simply taking down all his FB posts and sites on Sunday night without a written or spoken murmur.

McElligott said he was going into politics ‘because he had an itch for it ‘ … presumably the easy money and perks … well, he can stand around scratching his crotch for all the electors care.

Cop that, Jenny, all your own work.

  24. Anxious Anna says:

Does Les Walker keep his title of “ Hydrogen Champion” and the perks that go with it, or will he cop a downgrade?

  25. The Magpie says:

So Memory Blank Walker gets his clubbing ban upped from 10 days to three months, plus the already imposed $800 fine, so there is no question he was deemed a contributing factor when he won the Glass Jaw award.

But as Dale Last (a former highly respected copper) said, ”his so called apology (at a media call) was basically an afterthought, and you have to wonder if it was a genuine apology. Walker is taking the people of Townsville for fools.’

Well, Dale, The ‘Pie sort of believes it really was a heart-felt, contrite apology, at least to the Premier, anyway, you can bet on it.

    • Airline says:

Les Walker could still Sell Raffle tickets for the Meat Trays each week at either the ” Stuart or Oonoonba” Hotels …

  26. The Magpie says:

    Peter Newey just fainted.

  27. Frequent flyer says:

A mate in Brisbane who is a senior Queensland Labor Party member told me this morning that the party powerbrokers are calling for Les Walker’s head. He doesn’t think they will move to sack him from parliament but if the Brisbane-based members get their way he will almost certainly be tossed out of the party. My Labor mate said if the Liberals dumped Jason Costigan for so-called crimes he wasn’t even charged for by the police, then Les Walker has to go. Expect some fireworks when Walker’s antics are discussed in parliament.

    • The Magpie says:

Let’s be clear – and The ‘Pie as always happy to be corrected – neither Palaszczuk or the ALP can ‘toss’ anyone out of parliament … that only happens if the MP commits a crime (hi, Mr Nutall, how’re things?), resigns or is eventually voted out. (Dying is not a popular option but it is another valid circumstance). All Labor can do is dis-endorse him, and remove him from the party. It is likely at the very least his canvas-back performance at the Mad Cow will cost him the $30-$40k he gets for the hoked up ‘hydrogen champion’ bullshit.

    • Barry says:

You’re right on the money. There are phone calls going on right now – none of which are heading in the direction of Memory Blank. He is expected to resign (ill health) and vacate the seat immediately, otherwise it is going to turn nasty.

Hotels industry are fuming at the lack of action, especially consider how much money they’ve spent over the years to comply to “safe night precinct” requirements.

  28. On the case says:

Ray Hadley today had 2 segments involving walker. It started with an email saying how fucked up TCC ( mullet) cost the ratepayers 170k for by-election. He segwayed onto walker. In his address he openly quoted many emails from Townsville saying walker touched someone from the other group inappropriately, allegedly, and ray found it very weird police havnt released footage. He ended first segment saying we’ve contacted walker for comments.

Second segment begins with, we’ve heard back from walkers office. The question was had you acted inappropriately to a different party on the night. Statement was that investigation was underway and he cant comment because he is unable to recall anything. Rays giving him a serve then he added that things dont seem right and maybe its a matter for CCC and LNP to refer and ask about footage not being released because other cases its out quickly. He then goes on to state that police have said after all parties have paid the fines or have contested them it will be 28 days until footage comes out. Ray ends with he will be contacting police commissioner carrol on 29th day.

The southern media has now picked up on this big time Labor cant hide. So many questions need answered which has lead to more questions asked. I dont think it will go away like the premiere hoped it would after that bullshit apology. One thing i know is that when people like Hadley gets the sort of crap walker handed him the staff are relentless at chasing them down until it all comes out. Im betting walker wil quit politics not just be thrown out of Labor. LNP have a perfect chance then to get a foot back into Townsville with a by-election provided they dont do a deb freckel and just let it play out. Its worth listening to the pod cast.

    • The Magpie says:

Can a change.org petition be directed to an individual? Les Walker , Resign might gather a few signatures.

    • Jatzcrackers says:

Hadley’s son is a copper so he’d have intel !

      • last drinks says:

Hadleys son went for Cocaine Possession. He got the charges dropped for Mental Health reasons. Move on, nothing to see here, is there Gladys?
Anyway, damn sight more serious that Walker. Hadley is a sanctimonious hypocrite.

        • The Magpie says:

Not sure we get your drift here, One Too Many … Hadley’s son is not a public figure beyond the the reflected notoriety of his father, Les Walker is an elected official expected to maintain a certain standard of behaviour … especially in the city he represents enduring rampant crime and drunkenness that he and his government steadfastly refuse to make any effort to control.

Then thgere’s the social and community leadership issue. Perhaps we should all chip in an d get Les this shirt (and the answer for him certainly isn’t 56).

  29. Race 2 Horse 7 Felatio Hornblower says:

Poor old Gordon Nuttall. He didn’t do anything that any other local, state, or federal politician hasn’t done – hands in the til, brown paper bags, mates rates, dodgy deals, lies, deception, corruption, incompetence and greed. They are all cut from the same cloth.

  30. Elusive Butterfly says:

Unfortunately, Les Walker seems to have an asset…the virtual silence from the Opposition, especially its leader.
When questioned about the incident, Mr. Crisafulli, came out with this gibberish in the southern Press.

“What I’ve seen in the past five days has been a lot of hand-putting up in the air, a lot of ‘I’m sorry’ and all different to and fro,” he said.

“What I haven’t seen is an acknowledgement of the fact that something went wrong and we don’t tolerate that sort of behaviour in society.

“A three-line press release saying you have read someone the riot act doesn’t do it, so in the lack of leadership, here goes: I condemn alcohol-fuelled violence, member of Parliament or not. There is a standard that has to be set and you can be sorry, but behaviour also has to be called out.”

    WTF is all that about??
Is English his second language or are these comments the result of attending JCU for three years and then coming out and pretending to be a journalist??
    His knickname “Kid” is apt.
    A kid playing politics!

    • The Magpie says:

It is clear that English isn’t your first language. And how is that silence? And Dale Last has put in a very effective boot, too.

You don’t seem to realise the absurdity of a dog whistling deflective defence of Les Walker’s disgraceful behaviour (Pie prediction: he will be forced to resign) with a totally irrelevant and illusory side show. Not quite as elusive as you would have us believe, Flutterby.

    • Mike Douglas says:

Elusive Butterfly , do you follow social media or read the Astonisher or any other print media ? . Fiona Simpson LNP integrity spokesman has been in the Astonisher , Courier Mail , The Australian , social media seeking more information on Dale Last and that his actions were unacceptable . David Crisafiulli has been on local radio , social media , print as well as Dale Last . Gibberish , what else do they have to do so you think they are pushing this matter ?. They are in opposition and Parliament hasnt resumed . Happy Australia Day .

    • Big Poppa Pump says:

Excretive Butterfly, the Kid has said more publicly than your role model Anna Alphabet has. The fact that your precious Labor party led by your multi chinned hero Palasczuk are covering up for the FNQ Boxer shows what a pathetic party they are. And of course, guilty by association means you are equally pathetic to be supporting a drunken fighter like Walker.

The Pie is correct, this isn’t going away quietly and one way or the other this embarrassing Townsville MP will soon fall on his sword. Maybe the Prince will give him a job at TCC cleaning park shitters on the weekend or picking up used condoms from around the Strand?

      • Alahazbin says:

Yes! BPP. He can join his rellies in the Parks Department or whatever they call it these days.

      • The (barely) Civil Engineer says:

Does anyone know if KO Les made it to the Australia Day extravaganza at the Strand this morning to proudly stand alongside Anna, Mullet and the Governor?

I couldn’t bring myself to wander down to look – the council hype would have been too hard to swallow.

  31. The Magpie says:

Interesting poll, and although done by proven methods by a trusted organisation, one wonders if even the best methodology can get a real reflection of the national mood from just 1, 236 people.

Anyway, no one asked The Magpie, and since he has a life-long dislike of bullies, this is his vote.

    • Russell says:

      Well said, Malcolm. Hear! Hear!

    • No More Dredging says:

‘Pie, there is no chance of changing the date by an opinion poll. It has come to pass that two mutually exclusive philosophies are sitting on the same date, 26 January. Neither has the wherewithal to make the other leave. Like the matter of Les Walker, one party will have to concede if there is any chance of progress. “Barry” might be correct that it is only a matter of time before Les chooses to walk. My bet is that the next ‘walk’ will be Australia vacating January 26 because the other mob has nothing to lose by staying right where they are. ‘Always were, always will be’. Catchy eh?

      • The Magpie says:

The ‘Pie doesn’t quite get why they can’t be on the same day, won’t make the snags taste any different, each to their own. But The ‘Pie noted a very sensible suggestion somewhere today, that if the majority are to be bullied and cowed into a date change, let the Outrage Industry have 26th, and Australia Day could be a floating holiday created by making the last Monday of January a long weekend for Australia Day. If the 26th coincides with both, let it ride, at least we’d only have this annual gas bagging once every few years.

Of course, if the ‘Sorry We Lost The Invasion’ Day mob gets exclusive rights to the 26th, it will be interesting to see how popular as a crowd puller it will remain. Gotta have someone to blame, ain’t no fun barking at the clouds for nothing.

        • No More Dredging says:

” . . . . if the majority are to be bullied and cowed into a date change . . . .” That’ll be the day. Scotty from Marketing could present it as one great leap for Mankind. But where would we land?

          • The Magpie says:

Ummm, are you into an early Sorry/Invasion Day solemn celebration? That comment sounds kinda goomish.

          • No More Dredging says:

            ‘Pie,
I’m into current divided Australia’s national celebration day being somewhere other than January 26 – unless, of course, the nation comes together in some sort of Makarrata workshop as proposed in the Uluru Statement from the Heart. If non-Indigenous Australia sees that as being ‘bullied and cowed’ into getting off its high horse, well, so be it. Pick another date; January 26 is taken.

          • The Magpie says:

In terms of language … English in this case …. just using the phrase ‘getting off its high horse’ is bullying at its best. By this phrase, you are saying all the cultures, creeds and heritages that make up 97% of Australia are to be ignored in favour of the 2% of the population who are descendants of the original inhabitants (and secret agenda, virtue signalling fellow travellers).

And no indigenous interest, organisation or individual that The Magpie has read or heard can, in plain simple language, tell what they (you presumably) REALLY want. No empty high falutin’ phrases, buzz words and accusatory rhetoric about what ‘we’ did, just tell us what ‘you’ want. (it goes without saying that the indigenous rate of incarceration and care once detained needs to be a priority, but that is a social and policing matter that should be uniform for all Australians).

Can you … in one concise non-rambling sentence (or maybe two or three) explain what the underlying goal really is, shat is the actual outcome you and indigenous Australians are seeking – and don’t waste out time with harmony and love all round … mass accusatory rallies graphically belies any such desire.

The floor is yours if you can meet those conditions.

          • No More Dredging says:

‘Pie, it’s simple and straightforward: The Uluru Statement from the Heart.

          • The Magpie says:

Which, in itself, says precisely nothing in practical terms.
The Uluru Statement From The Heart is a classic product of academia buzz words and phrases that a pretty to hear perhaps, but actually mean nothing at all. Because such a statement should be designed for and aimed at those who may be seen as either ignorant or oppressors, and one can’t see one concrete practical request or step to right undoubted wrongs, one cannot see a clear message and or the expression of a clear and plainly expressed. Subsequent follow-up documents seek certain legislatives changes, but they don’t seem very clear in their end intent. The Uluru Statement is in fact, an insult to all aboriginal people who have been persuaded to believe that it would provide white power brokers impetus for change. It does exactly the opposite, because it does not provide – since we’re into modern jargon – KPIs. The way the Statement has been presented and promoted is an insidious political masterpiece of cynicism and prevarication. Sometbhing to be pointed at, but not one solid idea in the whole thing.

          • No More Dredging says:

Thanks, ‘Pie. I take it that you dismiss the Uluru Statement as any sort of Indigenous claim on January 26. Fair enough, it’s a free country.

So allow me to turn this around. Can you … in one concise non-rambling sentence (or maybe two or three) explain what the underlying goal really is in claiming January 26 as your date to celebrate an inclusive Australia Day? No empty high falutin’ phrases, buzz words and accusatory rhetoric about what ‘we’ did, just tell us what ‘you’ want.

          • The Magpie says:

            1. You first, it’s only polite since The ‘Pie asked first, can’t dodge it that way, old chum.

            2. The Magpie made and makes no such claim ‘January 26 as your date to celebrate an inclusive Australia Day’, and as you well know, the question was what is it in, plain language, that the indigenous lobby is seeking? It is not the date that The ‘Pie disputes so much as the hectoring, poorly argued reasons and bullying actions the Aboriginal Industry and virtually signalling sympathisers employ to second it.If it is ‘constitutional recognition’ what does that entail and where does it lead? It is certain that certain vocal interests aren’t seeking some simple ‘yup, youse was here first, sorry about all that’s gone on, now time for a group hug.’ It’s so far like having a debate on the subject”Guess The Topic And Its Remedies”.

        • NQ Gal says:

The Scottish community in Australia very much appreciates the public holiday after a long night of celebrating the life of Robbie Burns.

        • Rocky says:

Agree…last Monday in January…whatever the date….gets rid of all these silly open for one or two days then closed again…..hell push it out to the first Monday in Feb….a little bit more space between long weekends.

    • Achilles says:

      Doesn’t work Pie

    • Cappuccino in hand says:

Hey Pie, I think you miss the point. From 26/1/1788 immigration has somewhat outstripped the original inhabitant’s ability to keep up their rate of procreation vs others so they are stuck at approx. 3% of the current day population of Australia. Lucky to be that high. That shouldn’t diminish their voice. They were here first. And since British establishment have overcome a myriad of awful programmes of extermination and the like. And they are still here. Give them their day to celebrate or be sorry for their history over the past 250 years. They have earned that right.
But they are still part of Australia. So a more inclusive date should be found for all Australians. And we all move forward. Still many things to heal and reconcile. There will be dickheads on both sides that will never be happy. But clearly, celebrating the day the British landed to establish a European outpost/colony in Sydney is never going to be a good day.

      • The Magpie says:

The ‘Pie has never sought to dimninish the indigenous voice in Australia … what he does seek is plain language clarity in what the actual indigenous people seek.

        • Steve, Belgian Gardens says:

Indigenous people are seeking to change the date of our national day, it’s not difficult to understand?

          • The Magpie says:

Sure you can squeeze it into you calendar, Steve?

          • Steve, Belgian Gardens says:

“Australians only get one day”. Very classy meme. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders are Australian citizens too. We had a referendum about it in 1967.

None of those other events are relevant to the discussion because they’re not our *national* day. There could be 364 Indigenous days on the calendar from 27 January one year to 25 January the next and it wouldn’t make an iota of difference to the fact that day Australia celebrates nationhood commemorates the invasion of one part of the country against the other part.

      • Dave of Kelso says:

        C.i.h.
Give them a day to celebrate? They have been given a whole bloody week.

It is called NAIDOC Week. Some people are never satisfied.

And while I am at it what effect did Rudd’s apology have? Did aboriginal youth crime diminish? How about domestic violence, or truancy, or child abuse (remember Tennant Creek and the NT Intervention). No, it made fuck all difference, and if the aborigines or more like there descendents, as there are very few full bloods left, get to fuck up Australia Day, they will go on to bitch about something else. And if the Invasion Day mob feel so aggrieved let them go bush, live a pre-european traditional life and enjoy early infant mortality and an expected life span of 35 years.

        • Country for sale - apply within. says:

They do seem quite eager to give up their sacred land when they are offered big dollars. It can’t be that important can it?
TBH I’m sick of this bullshit that has been mentioned in this thread – NAIDOC, MABO, handouts, commissions and inquiries, it’s never fucking ending and neither is their complaining. Where’s my free government job, free house, cheap loans, free education, uni scholarships and the list is endless. All I get is to be pay high tax with no personal benefit. That’s my fucking Australia.

        • Walkers Hill says:

Why can’t we have two dates? Australia Day 26th January and Invasion Day 30th February?

We’ve all heard old jokes about legal names, like the divorce attorneys Sue, Grabbit and Nickoff. But it seems that real life imitates levity sometimes. Chewck out these names.

Have a look at Hagar in today’s Astonisher and see if it brings any recent event to mind. Sorry I can’t seem to copy it.

  34. The Third Reader says:

Greetings Pie and all nesters. I recently had cause to return to Townsvile (not a typo) after escaping 12 months prior after a stay of 35 years. After a week I could not wait to leave, and have vowed never to set foot in the shithole again. Untidy, uninviting, stale and obvious that the printer knocking out the FOR SALE / LEASE signs still has the best chance of ongoing employment. The unaccountable ferals and other youth crime is reason enough to leave and feel safe living anywhere else as well.

Over a couple of cleansing ales with a mate we were discussing how the place has slipped even more since I left and how the fuck the people of Townsville thought it a good idea to vote back the three blind mice, the Mullet and particularly Walker into power in last years elections. The depth of thinking runs very shallow in Townsville voters, as evidenced by the story of a bloke I had run into who told me he voted for the Mullet “because she gave us a hard rubbish collection and let me get rid of that old couch down the back. Finally got the missus of my back. But apart from that mate, nah I am not interested in politics” Not interested in finding out why the place looks like it does, and what the future holds for the town. Intellectual brilliance.

My mate also told of a phone call he received last year from our (then) hopeful representative Message Bank touting for votes in the looming election. He had never had any contact, conversation or any dealings with Walker but was surprised at how much Walker knew about him and his business. Instantly suspicious my mate fobbed him off, but not before answering honestly if he had any questions for him. “only one. Why do they call you Message bank” CLICK.

i am very thankful for being able to leave. I will always be here in the background though because one day i am going to read that the Mullet has been sent to gaol for anything the CCC can pin on her. That for me will be a good day. Keep up the great work Magpie trying to inform honestly those that are interested to know the truth about the town.

  35. Alahazbin says:

Looks like the ‘dishonourable member’ for Mundingburra ‘Memory Blank’ Walker won’t be able to represent his constituency and meet cabinet ministers at the country cabinet meeting being held at the Entertainment Centre.

That’s the day the Nazis supposedly surrendered . When the right wing flag wavers find that out they won’t go for it.

  37. Cathryn says:

Let’s celebrate the 10 August 1967, the date the legislation amending our Constitution (enabling everyone to be counted as part of our country’s population) was assented to and passed into law. This is the date we all finally got equal rights as citizens of Australia. On a personal level: if I was indigenous, I would detest that celebration of the First Fleeters going ashore at Port Jackson, with the intention of creating a permanent settlement, thereby dispossessing the original inhabitants of that land, was the only reason for the original choice of the 26th January for Australia Day. It just isn’t something that can be overcome by well meaning sentiments about what the date means now. Almost any other date would be better! And we could really use a public holiday in August! But I’m sure someone somewhere will find an atrocity happened somewhere on that date …. so it’ll be back to square one.

  38. CBD dweller says:

    From today’s Astonisher:
“CBD Buildings owners in highly visible areas will feel the wrath of Townsville City Council if a new local law is approved.”
Wonder if they’ll hit Bazza Taylor with more than a wet lettuce leaf for his monstrosity in Flinders Street.
    Its a disgrace.
So is the old delapitated building next to The Bank nightclub.
What about Magpie bloggers preparing a hit list for the council to prioritise if and when the new law comes into effect?

    • The Magpie says:

Send pix to email hidden; JavaScript is required and also post on FB Tatty Townsville page.

    • Ducks Nuts says:

Maybe a list of council assets requiring maintenance would be a good start.

    • Cappuccino in hand says:

After years of neglect the council finally refurbs the tacky little fountain in the Walker St forecourt. It now looks like a freshly painted tacky little fountain.

Now it’s over to CBD private owners to follow council’s lead it seems.

What business person in their right mind would invest serious money (or any money) in Townsville CBD infrastructure? For business, it’s dead. But if it was turned into a primarily residential precinct …

      • The Magpie says:

The Magpie does have a serious suggestion if their council is serious about sprucing up the CBD. A regulatory return to times past when owners of businesses where fags and vomit are likely MUST hose down the public pavements EVERY morning. In the case of the Via Vomitorium strip, every business should be required to do so, since many benefit from the drunken excesses. It is piss weak to say they pay rates to have this done, which is not true, they should leave their counting houses long enough to rectify the public health hazard, they should clean it up. But these folks are a breed that have no self respect, let alone respect for the community.

  39. The Magpie says:

Reliable word out of Canberra is reaching the Nest this morning.

The Royal Military College, Duntroon a buzzing with the word internally that VC winner Ben Roberts-Smith is now openly regarded as a straight-out war criminal, guilty of murder affirmed by far too many eyewitnesses who’ve now come forward.
His wife and kids have left him and word is that all paintings/photos/recognition of him in the Canberra War Memorial are soon to be taken down.

Wonder if he gets to keep his VC.

Nothing officially confirmed but interesting days ahead !

    • Cordie says:

RMC was always buzzing with rumours.

      • The Magpie says:

Yup, agree with that, The ‘Pie is aware of the penchant in military circles for rumours (that’s where we got ‘furphy’ from, when troops early last century gathered and yakked around the waters tanks made by the Furphy company).

But the source seems to think this has reached an interesting. point, a bit beyond rumour. we’ll see..

  40. Gunny Sergeant Highway says:

Seriously? Removing Museum photos, banishing the bloke like he is some kind of disease? He went to war. Soldiers, in wars kill people. Some soldiers take matters a step too far. Whatever! It’s a fucking war, wars in which we shouldn’t even be involved in the first place. In any case they are wars against terrorists that don’t have a rule book. Some pen pusher in Canberra expects soldiers to behave like some office bureaucrat and follow a set of procedures. Ha. Grow the fuck up. In wars bad things happen. Don’t like it? THEN DONT TRAIN PEOPLE TO GO TO OTHER COUNTRIES TO KILL PEOPLE THEY DO NOT KNOW.

    • The Magpie says:

You clearly have a problem distinguishing between combat killing and cold blooded murder of unarmed non-combatants. The Magpie isn’t saying that this is what Roberts did, we don’t know (yet), just saying that YOU don’t know the difference. Which is a great concern. And your mealy-mouthed words for cold blooded murder – ‘a step too far’ – says everything that makes you unfit to wear an Australian uniform.

      • Gunny Sergeant Highway says:

Pie, have you served? Have you been to war? If not, then I accept your comment as being out of ignorance of having never experienced war. You can quote ‘cold blooded murder’ and ‘I don’t know the difference’, but you are wrong because you expect soldiers to play by some handbook written by some bureaucrat in Canberra. It all goes out the window when you are on the ground in a foreign land. If you knew how many schools, buildings, hospitals and homes of innocent people have been destroyed accidentally by tomahawks, firearms and fighter aircraft you would keel over. Again, shit happens. It’s war and it’s cold, brutal and callous. If reality offends please go back to Friday night bingo and ling walks along the Strand.

        • The Magpie says:

The reality that offends is that someone like you, lacking any judgement to behave in the manner you have been sent to defend, now walks among us. You would have been at home in the forests of Poland in WW2, if you wore a Nazi uniform … for which you sound eminently qualified to do.

          • Cantankerous but happy says:

I will never judge anyone who served in that environment, the lines become so blurred, you get absorbed into that world and after a period of time that becomes your standard, anyone who thinks they are some sort of moral saint who would never allow that to happen are delusional. One of the best presentations I was ever given was showing a dance hall in 1938 full of Nazi officers and women, wives etc and a few children at the dance as well, then we were asked if we could go back in time and drop a bomb in the building and obliterate it would we do so, not too many said no, it just highlighted how quickly your own perspectives can change. At the end of the day Roberts Smith like others would be guided by the unwritten rule of your armed combat rules of engagement” better to be judged by twelve than carried by six”, now he may have to face the twelve, time will tell.

          • The Magpie says:

That’s all arse about, Cankers, going back with a bomb when armed with the knowledge of the targets future transgressions is irrelevant to this discussion. It doesn’t even fit with the hazy ‘on suspicion’ principle, which can be justified in many if not not most cases.

          • Gunny Sergeant Highway says:

Yeah yeah blah blah. Pie, you should sleep well at night knowing that your country and your way of life is being protected by brave men and women. I am safe to walk the streets, wouldn’t harm a flea and I love Australia and what we stand for. I mam your average looking guy next door.. I am not a murderer, never have been and never will be. But to protect means to protect at all costs. What frightens me is the amount of people like yourself, living in the Matrix where your reality is in fact an alternate reality. If I have to go to Poland and wear a Nazi outfit or go to Alaska and wear nothing but a sock over my genitals then so be it. I will do that for Australia. I don’t expect a thank you nor do I expect non-enlisted civilian to understand that.

          • The Magpie says:

The wisdom of the automaton meathead. Let’s get this straight then. You would feel perfectly justified, even perhaps heroic, to take a handcuffed person already in captivity in a secure compound, make them kneel, demand nothing and just blow their brains out? We’re not talking crossfire or ‘collateral damage’, we’re not talking battlefield confrontation, or even the ‘on-suspicion’ killing, which can be justified in a war zone. we are talking cold blooded cowardly murder that can only be driven by unstable blood lust. Well it is murder – wherever it happens – as judged by the accepted values of the country you honk on about defending and letting us sleep soundly in our beds. You jackass, get a fucking grip ( and seriously, do get a grip, your link to reality is tenuous bat best).

And yes, we all appreciate we are being protected … well, in the case of Afghanistan, represented … by brave men and women, 99.9% of whom obey the laws of engagement as laid down by their command.

As your pseudonym suggests, you see yourself as the heroic jut-jawed Clint Eastwood type, with what you think are tough-guy high flown principles that hollow-chested, pale cowering little civilians like us wouldn’t understand. We understand only too well, buddy boy, and what makes us sleep less soundly at night is knowing that someone so devoid of basic human principles – even simple military discipline – like you walks among us.

          • Cantankerous but happy says:

Not at all Pie, as explained afterwards by those devious army psyches, we had no firm knowledge of who all the people in the photo were, they may well have been junior rank admin staff, pay clerks etc, we had no knowledge in what part they would play in the war, if any, and the fact that we were happy to fry the wives and a few kids on suspicion as well. Killing all of these hundreds of people would probably have had no effect on the the war at all, but here we were 60 years later, more educated and aware apparently and yet ready to wipe them out, just a glimpse of how war effects people’s perspective . We can’t say how the deployed troops viewed the people they killed, Taliban informants, local organisers, they might have had a gun in their hands yesterday shooting at them, we just don’t know until charges are laid and investigations held, until then I don’t know how we can condemn anyone for what they are alleged to have done.

          • The Magpie says:

The alleged actions are what condemned, not the person until proof is provided. But there are two threads opened on this subject. One is the gung-ho meathead idiocy that it actually is OK to splatter everyone who looks sus (in defending Australia? Didn’t see any headlines about Afghans descending on Vincent … serve ‘em right if they did, anyway). The other thread is that the ‘Pie initially reported on the feeling among trainees and staff within the RMC Duntroon.

Roberts-Smith is far from convicted and until then, only personal views of the alleged atrocities themselves should be the subject of comment.

    • The Wulguru Wonder says:

      • Hadley Listerner says:

May not be over yet. Ray Hadley is hot on his trail. Couldn’t get answers to any of the questions he asked Walker’s office so asked police for a copy of the video. Police told him it couldn’t be released until all concerned had paid their fines. That would be 28 days. So he is waiting the 28 days and is going to contact the Queensland police commissioner and request the release of the video. Could get very interesting.

Good sound comments and dialogue from Opposition Leader, David Crisafiulli re the clearly unworkable laws surrounding juvenile repeat offenders. No doubt the ‘do gooders’ minority will be out in force saying they little darlings (obviously capable of stealing cars and turning them into lethal weapons on the streets) shouldn’t be so harshly treated ! Apologies, I’m stuffed if I can cut and paste links but the interview this morning was on social media. Apparently Puddleduck got a gig too but haven’t seen it.

    • I kid you not says:

The Kid is doing a great job, calling out Labor’s cover up and watering down of Messagebank’s behaviour. Well done young man. He has a bigger set of dusters than previously weaklings like Langbroek or the Freckle. At least he is having a go.

Now, Elusive butterfly, NMD, Not the ECQ, and whatever other names the fool goes by will be trembling with anger over the mention of the Kid, but he has more energy ands is more proactive than fools like Messagebank and double chin Anna.

    • Alahazbin says:

Apparently Puddleduck got a gig on Sunrise this morning with that Kosch idiot and blabbered out that she wanted to know why this 17 year old was out on bail and killed innocent people.
Well! I will tell you why. BECAUSE OF HER FUCKING YOUTH JUSTICE ACT.

      • Jatzcrackers says:

Correct Alan’…she’s bloody guilty either way. It happened because of her bylaws or it happened on her watch.
This is just another nail in the coffin (sorry about the pun with this sad circumstances) of this inept so called leader and Labor. The Pie highlighted early that this fool of a Premier has been basically ignoring and pretending that youth rampaging is not out of control for several years in the North under her watch. Now we have a devastating incident right in her back yard and here she is demanding on National Television ‘I want answers’ !! FFS Ms Premier, you won’t like the answers because you’re the bloody problem !

    • NQ Gal says:

Amazing that now something horrific involving a juvenile is a stolen car has happened in the SE Kingdom, further changes to bail laws are on the cards.

Go for it “I kid you not. You’d be a shoo-in…or, should that be, “chin-in?”

    • I kid you not says:

The not-so-elusive butterfly responds. I guess calling the opposition leader a ‘kid’ is not offensive to you? You don’t seem to be concerned. As for the Premier, if you think a comment about her chins is an ‘attack’, well you are softer than a freshly laid dog turd. As for the lNP looking for a gun media adviser, the job sounds interesting but I much prefer my comfortable retirement job overlooking Maggie sunrises and laughing at all the shenanigans the Townsville Laborious party get up to, and the brown nosing comments you (and your other aliases) post at the Nest.

And as a footnote, we all know that Governor in waiting, Jeanette Young, is the actual Premier of Queensland during these challenging times.

    • Jatzcrackers says:

EB, mind posting the link showing The Kid referring to anybody as fools or commenting on The Premiers chin ?
Whatever you’re smoking, stop it ! It’s clearly clouding your commonsense judgement and the blind love you have for Puddleduck !

    • Grumpy says:

EB – I would reckon Les Walker would also highly object to an attack on anyone’s chin. He just won’t take it lying down.

  47. George st says:

  48. Gunny Sergeant Highway says:

Whatever Ben Robert’s Smith is accused of, his alleged activities, sensationally and emotionally attacked by Mr Magpie, are nothing compared to the crimes of the military industrial complex and Government heads.

WW2. Japan attacks Pearl Harbour – ships, runways, aircraft, military installations and infrastructure. Americas response – 2 hydrogen bombs simply dropped on top of two cities and and incinerate 135.000 innocent men, women, children, elderly and infirm. That is cold blooded, calculated murder.

    • The Magpie says:

You really are one of those semi-educated barrack room meathead moralists usually found in platoon sergeants. The bombings were not a ‘response’, you chucklehead, (btw they were atom bombs – big difference – and yes, they were the unnecessary and vindictive murder of civilians (certainly the second was, as the first was sufficient deterrent to end the war and avert tens of thousands of further deaths … and the world learned a lesson from them. And your simplistic take on history includes a jump from Pearl Harbour in 1941 to Hiroshima and Nagasaki in 1945, neatly ignoring any of those pesky minor and good natured dust-ups in between, most of which involved Australian troops. The ‘Pie does not present what happened in those intervening years as an excuse for those bombings, but certainly as a reason. And the atom bomb attacks were a major reason that in 1949, the Geneva Convention was created, in part ‘to extensively define the basic rights of wartime prisoners (civilians and military personnel), established protections for the wounded and sick, and established protections for the civilians in and around a war-zone’.

Now, if your gung-ho reply to this is that terrorists don’t subscribe to the Geneva Convention (which they clearly don’t), show us where the Australian military command has told you and your colleagues to ignore the government’s Geneva Convention responsibilities. There is certainly a grey area in combatting terrorism of the Al Qaeda sort, but summary executions of civilians and prisoners makes us no better than them.

  52. Prince Rollmop says:

The publicity surrounding Massagewank has been distracting all and sundry from other matters locally at TCC. Out of complete fairness, I must advise you that the Prince has had a bit of a breather due to the attention being placed elsewhere, but I can assure you the Prince is still stomping his feet around HQ while in a smelly, heated mess. His sweat stained armpits have been seen waving about as endless technical issues with infrastructure keep the pressure on him.

Prince Prince Prince, as a previous Consultant to TCC, you did provide the advice that staff should be made redundant and that maintenance spending on infrastructure be cut. Have you forgotten that, garlic breath? The reports are sitting in my secret file old mate. Ironic, because now you are having to work your ass off to manage this situation ha ha ha. Hopefully the Mullet will be found guilty and sacked from Council, and if the Councillors have any balls they will then sever your contract as CEO and send you on your way. You are not the solution to Councils problems.

Enjoy your weekend Prince, and enjoy all of those service difficulty messages you will be receiving and the subsequent Councillor inquiries. Ha ha

    • Shit Sandwich says:

In his defence the Prince is not responsible for the poorly written and badly researched Nous report. He hired some grad students to write it. No one from TCC below an Executive Manager, was interviewed for the report, with a few exceptions, such as mayoral staff. No need to talk to the workers as we all know they know nothing. It is after all a “Need to know basis, and they don’t need to know.” Based on that logic, there was no need to fact check or validate anything. Therefore, the Prince can’t possibly be responsible for the colossal fuckup that has happened at TCC in the last few years.

    • Gummy Bear says:

I’ve heard unconfirmed reports the head media bloke has resigned or intends to soon. If correct, that’s two out the door less than 2 years. The spin cycle must knock the stuffing out of them quickly

  53. NQ Gal says:

The war of words between the spinster Aunts continues. In one corner, we have Anna, putting out the begging bowl to the Feds for additional job keeper funding for the tourism industry.

In the other corner, we have Gladys pointing out to Anna that if she didn’t keep locking out other states for months on end every time someone sneezed, the tourism industry would most likely be purring along quite nicely.

I’d much rather we had an Aunty Gladys.

    • The Magpie says:

The ‘Pie agrees, we all supports sensible and carefully considered precautions and regulations, but virus hysteria and health despotism disguised as responsible politics is now an overfed chicken coming home to a very rickety roost.

      • Dax says:

        It’s not a chicken it’s an Ibis

      • Alahazbin says:

Pie, There is a good article in today’s astonisher from Warren Entch. Puddleduck asking for more federal funding to prop up the tourism industry. The feds have put in $27.9 billion, while the state has only injected $8.8 billion. And she is the one who closed the borders when somebody in another state sneezed and caused the problem.
But all lefties on here will come out with: “but she kept us safe”

        • The Magpie says:

Jeanette Young should be fired as premier.

          • The Magpie says:

            A local businessman writes:
‘It appears someone told the Qld Premier how much shit the State is
in this week based on her border closures . Ray Hadley’s national radio
program highlighted Palaszczuk’s use of border closures for the Qld election
and its rich of her to put her hand out for Federal Government support.’

    • Cantankerous but happy says:

The online comments today across a range of forums were overwhelmingly scathing of Puddleduck and her absolute hypocrisy about this whole thing, particularly from anyone in NSW whom advised on principle they will not be visiting Qld in the near future and the people of Qld should live with their recent decisions at the polls and pay their own way out of this mess. Many commented that Qld hotels can be for Qld people just like your hospitals are, her disgusting behaviour in all this is being called out finally. This subject along with the whole youth justice issues are playing right into the kids hands who looks more and more like the balanced voice in all this. If Puddleduck keeps going like this she could very well be as despised as Anna Bligh was by the end of this term, the only problem is the 4 years of misery we all have to endure to get there, still this is what we voted for.

      • The Magpie says:

        Jeanette Young should fire her.

      • Dave of Kelso says:

What is this “we”? I did not vote for her!

      • No More Dredging says:

Fortunately the $195 million Commonwealth money not being spent on the Haughton Stage2 pipeline is still locked in to be spent around Townsville. Haven’t heard anyone from Townsville or NSW whining about these “begging bowl” bucks being blown in the ‘Ville – perhaps no one knows much about it (or in the case of Hadley, knows fuckin’ nothin’ about nothin’). Anyway, why would Townsvillains read the Courier Mail for information about Townsville?

        • The Magpie says:

Great to see you sticking to the point of the debate, NMD, … border closures and their downside. A lesser person that you, NMD, would try to distract attention by talking about, well, you know, $195million in Fed funds for Townsville and the lack of ‘whining’ about it. But you have yet again made vyour constructive contribution to debates on this page. Well done.

PS What else would they read? Think before you answer.

  54. The Magpie says:

    AARON HARPER IS RIGHT.

May The Magpie suggest, Aaron, that you urge residents to write to their local MP?
    Oh, wait a minute ….

    • The Magpie says:

And while you’re writing to yourself Aaron, you might suggest to yourself that you ask your busted arse government to review and tighten the laws guiding magistrates in bail hearings. This one defies any logic, and it will be interesting if this grub ever shows up again from Cooktown.

      • Voter says:

Fucken Harper. What a deadshit. He IS the problem!

      • Ron Burgundy says:

Magpie note: sad to have label this post, because things have got to a stage where it COULD be true, but this is SATIRE.

        And in Breaking News:

Inmates (aka Guests) at the Cleveland Detention Centre seek compensation because Police Officer injured this morning was supposed to take them fishing this afternoon under Palaszczuk Government Justice Program.

A furious Member for the Crime Capital of Queensland Mr Harpic said “it not good enough QPS staff can’t miss a shift because they want a lie down. Who do they think they are the Member 4 Mongdingbarra”

    • Dave of Kelso says:

The photo does the scene no justice. I went past Gollogly Lane at 0732. On the grass on river side of the road approx 7 police cars, 2 fire engines, ambulance. Further on crashed police car, someone on the ground, others near by. Police cars at intervals all the way to ring road turn off where I left Riverway Drive. Police cars, fire engine and ambulance continued to arrive, lights and sirens on.

  55. Elusive Butterfly says:

“THURINGOWA MP Aaron Harper has condemned the alleged stolen car indecent in the heart of his electorate.”

The opening par of an article in the Bulletin this morning.
The only thing “indecent” about this “incident” are the subsequent quotes, or should I say drivel, from Harper.
He’s the useless tool that sits at the bottom of the tool box…never used, gathering rust!

  56. Dave of Kelso says:

Reading Aaron bloody Harper’s lame and way too late comments on youth crime reminds me of the story of the politician who, upon seeing a great crowd of people all heading in the same direction says, “Tell me where thoes people are going so that I can lead them.”

Aaron, you have no idea of community anger at (predominantly) aboriginal youth crime and the revolving door of Puddleduck’s catch and release youth legislation.

    • Dave of Kelso says:

P.S. keen to know the prior offences (if any ha, ha,ha.) of the snots in today’s offending to gauge the deterrence effect of the Qld Youth Justice Act. Aaron, you would be keen to help.

  57. Premier Putz says:

Palasczuk is a complete disgrace. A conceited fool who along with her partner in crime Jeanette Young have created an economic disaster in Queensland, with the full fallout yet to come. They have played politics, they have satisfied their bloated egos and pride, and now the penny has dropped that they are going to be the face of this mess for years to come. You betcha she is crawling up Scomo’s ass holding out her hand the beggars bowl. We are all going to reap what she has sown and her actions will not be forgotten.

    • The Magpie says:

Oh, yes they will … remember, you’re talking. about the Queensland electorate here, they of the memory that make goldfish look like Barry Jones.

    • The Magpie says:

We’ll put aside the irony of our mayor commenting on dangerous driving and injury or even death …. but Mayor Mullet says she is outraged. Well m’dear, it’s your Labor Party and it’s the premier’s ear you keep telling us you have, and that, you imply, justifies your quasi-independent Labor council, YOU use your position to do what you can … it’s long overdue.

      • Premier Putz says:

The Mayor. Pfffft. Hyprocite. They’ve got some fucking nerve ey.

      • Walkers Hill says:

The sad thing about this incident is that I have become so ‘conditioned’ over Crime and Car Theft in Townsville that the News about it was hardly surprising. Even as recently as 10 years ago I would have been shocked, but not now.

  58. Dave of Kelso says:

The driver of the stolen 4×4 is 14. I will remind all that the assassin who killed Benazir Bhutto (PM of Pakistan) was 14. The age of criminal responsibility must remain at 10 years. A pox on the bleeding hearts!

  59. I’ll be plucked says:

Open and honest question to the whole of Townsville Electorate – State. So viewers, why the pluck do you keep electing these incompetent, nothing to offer, bludgers on the public purse?

Or, is there some big fiddling going on at the ballot box??? This State Labor Govt are rank amateurs who are doing massive damage to our economy AND our social structure. Don’t know how they can sleep at night………pluck off, PLEASE!

    • The Magpie says:

Well, it does have something to do with the alternative … the quality of LNP and other party candidates often hands various seats to Labour on a platter.
