Russell, you seem to imply that the newly discovered ‘engineering’ issues will require the demolition of the existing aquarium. But is that the case or is the problem that the foundations for a potential new multi-storey office block next to the water are in doubt?

A couple of reasons but especially because construction could start virtually immediately. I think the Engineering involved in upgrading the existing site will prove complex and will take years to resolve, if at all (an aquarium that size holds a LOT of water at just about 1 tonne per cubic metre) so a lot of weight to support that close to the creek.
Another reason is that the new offices for GBRMPA are (were?) planned to be built opposite and it makes sense to site them together.
As for the cafe, yes the site of the existing aquarium is ideal for that.
The hive – probably will never get of the ground at the scale initially envisaged anyway, so the reduction in area could well suit them to a T.
Whatever happens, I hope the Cri gets to be refurbished and remain as a part of it (but I’m not holding my breath)!

Is it just me, or do other folks also miss Adele ‘the impaler’ Young? Between her and Hill it was an interesting time at TCC. Never a dull moment. I mean, they didn’t strip off and prance around like Nick Dametto does, but they did make the news quite often.

Ironically, I smoke Marlboro. I went from smoking White Ox to Marlboro’s around 25 years ago. I smoked 3 packets of Marlboro’s per day but I am now down to one pack of 25’s per day, I. cut down around 10 years ago. As much as I am a fan of Peter Brock, I never took up smoking, or felt the urge to smoke, because of the word Marlboro on his race car!! Anyway, I will probably drop of a heart attack before lung cancer gets me, but at my age I no longer care.
