Boiling Frogs, Choosy Beggars, And The Townsville Bulletin Suggests A Sexual Assault Victim May Be Lying.

It won’t be just old age that will be creeping up on a big slice of the population from now on … and there seems nothing any politician can do about it. Bentley will explain.

Mayor Jenny Hill stamps a foot and wrings her hanky when Phil Thompson puts another one over on her … the mayor’s hilarious claim of ‘pork barrelling’ is one for the ages. A very choosy beggar indeed.

Christ we don’t just need an integrity commission for politicians … we need one for the bloody ‘look at moi’ media. But at least there’s been one double edged put-down of the braying mob.

Latest score: English 10 Bulletin nil. Language beats the paper yet again, but it’s ‘emperor’s new clothes’ syndrome to them. Fair dinkum, it’ll get them into court one day: no longer a matter of not caring, it is now a matter of not comprehending.

And we have our floods, fires and cyclones, but we can be thankful there’s a one thing we rarely experience … tornadoes. Our video from the US shows exactly why we should be thankful for that. … scary stuff.

Commercial break: No time this week, too busy to take around the begging bowl, so please just chuck some money over the back fence into the Nest, chucking button labelled ‘donate’ below .Will be as appreciated as it is needed. Thanks

Now onward.

It Might Be A Myth, But It Is A Great Metaphor For Reality

Basing your vote on one crucial area this election is a pointless exercise. That area is interest rates.

In one of the rare slips of truth, Smiko Morrison has shrugged off the RBA’s first rate rise more than a decade, saying, as he does with so many thing, ‘it’s nothing to do with me.’ And in this case, he’s right.  Pah!, you say, ’ 25%! hah, that just means a measly .35% overall.’

Well, while the story about how to boil a frog is only a myth– the fable that it will jump out if thrown into boiling water, but won’t move if put in tepid water the heat gradually turned up, and will eventually be boiled to death – it is a great metaphor, as Bentley points out.

RBA fin small

But the problem here is that unlike the mythical frog, mortgagees and those with business loans don’t have much choice but to stay put – in most cases, there is nowhere to jump. If buttock clenching is a weight reducing activity, there gunna be a fuckin’ lot of thin people around soon.

How The Bimbo And Boofhead Brigade Has Hijacked This Campaign

The answer is pretty simple: because they’ve been allowed to.

Screen Shot 2022-05-08 at 12.39.19 am

The rampant egos of the  modern press gallery are well known, and ‘stars’ (so they think … the public don’t really give a fuck), summed up by the far more circumspect Malcolm Farr who described the disheartening spectacle as ’look at moi’ journalism. But it’s unfair to shoot all the dogs just because some have got fleas … some of the more seasoned in the campaign pack are just as exasperated as the public with their preening colleagues who are falling over other each other to ask inane ‘gotcha’ questions and then rudely screech and harangue if they don’t get answer that will supply the required headline.

Screen Shot 2022-05-08 at 12.45.23 am

Albanese has been a main target, less able to handle the onslaught of triteness, but finally, he bit back effectively, challenging the behaviour of the baying pack.

The problem here is that Albanese was also at fault, exemplifying how politicians and journalists feed each other into bad behaviour. Because he was quite wrong in saying his parroting of a party platform position was an answer to the question … it wasn’t, it was ambiguous even when he elaborated. If, as he almost said in the end, the answer was yes, then why the fuck didn’t he just say yes in the first place. The reason is because all politician try to avoid saddling themselves with such blanket statements, because , as Galbraith famous saying has it ‘when circumstances change, I change my mind.’  Journalist just love to paint politicians into a corner during campaigns simply to store up a headline down the line.

However, he is forewarned about tricky questions: The ‘Pie has obtained a list of likely queries from the Murdoch media in the coming couple of weeks.

Screen Shot 2022-05-07 at 11.04.54 am

And it must be said, Albo, blaming a lame media performance for people giving up on politics is a bit of hyperbole  … he himself is running on a platform that Morrison is the reason people are increasingly disenchanted with politics.

At Least The Guys At The Shovel Are Treating The Campaign With All The Respect It Deserves

And over TheJuiceMedia, they make a powerful argument with a smile while using just facts to twist the knife. Good despite the endorsement.

Our Mayor’s Tough Love Policy

If she’s not giving out the lollies, then suddenly, diabetes are the danger. And she must step in to protect us.

Screen Shot 2022-05-05 at 9.03.12 am

You’d imagine when Mayor Mullet … who is a Labor Local Government politician … heard that Phillip Thompson … who is a Federal MP … announced that he was going to stump up for $2million Commonwealth bucks for a kids splash park in the Upper Ross, she would gracious and grateful on behalf of the local children and for the improvement to the amenity of the residents.

Imagine again.

In one of the stultifying bits of trite shallow electioneering, this snide, disappointed  woman has come up with, our ‘independent’ mayor decried the project, accusing Mr Thompson of using the City Deal funding as a “pork barrel for him to use to get re-elected”.

What? An incumbent with a double digit margin up against an invisible Labor late comer and the usual gaggle from the fancy dress fringe needs to ‘pork barrel for votes’?  Thompson could go on a fortnight’s holiday right now and still romp home.

The spurious pork barrelling charge is blatant partisan electioneering, from a person whose position implicitly means she represents the whole community … that would be the community that overwhelming voted Thompson in in the first place.  And deciding for us – without a hint of consultation – that such a funding scheme was undesirable is stepping into an arena that she has no right to enter. Listen, cloth-head you’re supposed to be everybody’s mayor, not an agent of a distant Labor hierarchy, seeking party votes on our behalf in the fruitless hope for higher office for yourself. A half arsed attempt to make this something to do with the city deal is insulting to residents, particularly families in the Upper Ross.

Denying this community a tangible asset because it doesn‘t suit your panicked politics, and on a basis that the Feds who invented the City Deal arrangement need advice from you on the error of their ways in running it, is the greatest display of misplaced arrogance and shows just how much you’re floundering.

The ’Pie’s advice, m’dear?  Get Dolan on speed dial, it might save you further embarrassment. If he’s even interested.

A Literal Case Of Adding Insult To Injury

A newspaper saying that the victim of an assault, attempted rape and robbery might be making it up … when video evidence and the cops know she’s not … is an astonishing road to go down … but that’s where the Townsville Bulletin went this week.

Screen Shot 2022-05-05 at 9.00.41 am

Yes, it’s our old friend allegedly, back again to haunt the pages of our community organ. For any even semi-literate reader, this is massive clusterfuck of language. Which, if one was of a mind, could merit at minimum an apology or even a court action. And the Bulletin even manages to compound the mistake itself in its page 4 story, both in the opening sentence and in the photo caption.

Screen Shot 2022-05-07 at 5.58.22 pm

Make up your bloody mind, you drongos … there’s an attempted rape of a nurse that is only alleged, all in the same headline. this is Alice In bWonderland stuff – ‘“When I use a word,’ Humpty Dumpty said in rather a scornful tone, ‘it means just what I choose it to mean — neither more nor less.  This is not some old curmudgeon harrumphing on about a vague pedantic point, there is a very real legal matter to made here. The Townsville Bulletin has said, in irrefutable terms – three times in fact  –  this woman could be making up her story, despite all the evidence to the contrary, which includes CCTV and police arresting and charging a man with her ‘claimed’ offences. And just because an unnamed man has been arrested and charged offers no danger to stating what the woman said is true … when it clearly is.

alleged

adjective

  1. said, without proof, to have taken place or to have a specified illegal or undesirable quality.

Recently, a News Ltd acquaintance told The ‘Pie that lawyers at  Holt Street HQ had issued a blanket instruction to regional papers  to whack in alleged when writing anything about crime. And this blog has pointed out before that this (almost meaningless) edict has resulted in the Bulletin previously calling police liars for allegedly finding stolen property, drugs and firearms in a raid. Talk about a lazy legal direction given to pimply reporters as some sort of fail-safe despite the meaning of the word – one day, it will come back to bite them on their smug bums.

In the woman’s case even more hurtful if she understands what the paper has done.

Has The Tipping Point Finally Arrived For America?

The danger of the long predicted deceitful behaviour of the Trump-appointed justices of the Supreme Court has been thrown into stark relief with the leaking of a draft decision that intends to overturn the long-standing abortion laws which allow women to have control of their own bodies and indeed safety. This is The Handmaid’s Tale writ large, and many fear just the start of the Supreme Court winding back many laws regarding voting rights, protection of gays and gay marriage, and rampant censorship in schools. Every one of the assenting justices recently appointed blatantly lied in their confirmation hearings about not changing the Roe v Wade abortion laws, so the national apprehension goes well beyond this single issue.

Obviously, this issue has dominated the American conversation during the week, and will for some time. The illustrators there have almost exclusively concentrated on this issue. The first in this week’s gallery demonstrates the power of the. illustrator’s pen over that of a writer – it powerfully encapsulates the situation precisely, without a single word.

‘This War On Jokes Must End.’’

As one famous English society bitch once said, ‘Humour, like a  green dress, is sooo difficult to do well.’ A subjective judgement that was the forerunner of cancel culture, the snide self-entitled voice of the closed-mind little people.

The ’Pie has been reading and writing English for nigh on 73 years … yes, started early at 2 and a half, Mum was so proud, but it was also soon afterwards that The ‘Pie learnt about censorship of humour, when at three I made my first attempt at stand-up humour (‘Mum, I reckon the cat shat on the mat … giggle giggle smack whaaaa!!’). But Mum … she never smacked very hard, love her memory, happy mum’s day wherever you are, up or down … was just the start, until now we have progressed to cancel culture, which has humour … and therefore free speech … in its sights.

The ‘Pie came across a Bill Maher clip this week that takes a nail gun to those thought police who use bullying, fake outrage and personal emotional inadequacies to censor others. In short, he has the recipe to cancel ‘cancel culture’

After the jokes, his closing remarks are as important to Australian society as they to his homeland hypocrites.

While We’re in This Neck Of The Woods …

Maher’s thoughts offer The ‘Pie an opportunity to explain something that some readers may have found a bit of a swerve in the writing of this blog a few years ago. When The Magpie’s Nest came about in 2010, The Magpie was fresh from a lifetime of being governed by the rules and regulations of mainstream media, so when he started blogging, he automatically adhered to the life-long dictates of ‘responsible’ journalism and its long-established lists of taboos.

But after three or four years, he made the conscious decisions to start use words like ‘fuck’ and ‘shit’ in his weekly review of our world, and even float blunt satirical opinions about various matters. The decision was on the basis that that is the way most people talk and communicate emphatically about ideas and standpoints.  And those who don’t say certain things out loud, certainly think in expletives and off-the-wall ideas for the thrill of privately being ’with it’. The ‘Pie has always hated the idea of certain words having the power to shock, dismay and carry a linguistic mark of Cain, a power they do not deserve or merit. Using them also opened up certain comic possibilities hopefully getting to a truth that would otherwise lay dormant and unsaid because of self censorship.

Only rule: it has to be amusing at least, funny at best.

Some Nesters were, quite reasonably, upset with this change of policy, but they said so in civil terms and after discussion, most remain with us today.

Humour can certainly be weaponised, to the point of cruelly wounding, but that is sometimes the purpose, it is one of the most effective means for the unempowered to be heard. Sure, some people may be offended  but perhaps they should note Salam Rushdie’s great truism: ‘No none was born with the right to NOT be offended.’ But cancel culture believes exactly the opposite. Fuck them.

Finally, This Will Blow You Away

One of the extremes of weather we don’t general encounter in Australia is the scourge of rural America … tornadoes. Floods slowly rise, fires you can see coming and cyclones don’t sneak up on us … none of which can be said for deadly twisters. Reckon you would’ve had time to get out of the way of this nightmare?

…………

That’s the week, but comments are all the fun of the fair, they run 24/7, drop in and stir a bit. If you like the Nest, a helping hand with associated costs is always welcome and needed.

See ya.

The Magpie's Nest is now more than five years old, and remains an independent alternative voice for Townsville. The weekly warble is a labour of love and takes a lot of time to put together. So if you like your weekly load of old cobblers, you can help keep it aloft with a donation, or even a regular voluntary subscription. Paypal is at the ready, it's as easy as ... well, easy as pie. The Department of agriculture, water and the environment, the people who do the inspections on inbound travellers, ships and airline passengers, have given an interesting update. This is the mob that inspect imports and exports around the country. The first assistant Secretary gave a slippery speech highlighting staff shortages, staff poaching, staff under resourced and staff quitting in droves (explains why they can’t keep up with their workload). These fools have mismanaged the department for a couple of years now, and as a result the place is falling apart and industry is suffering. A bloated organisation filled with too many management fuckwits with fancy titles sitting on their fat asses and putting a wrecking ball through the economy. Hopefully the top tier are moved on if Labor win the election. Incompetent idiots. I guess time will tell.

  2. What rubbish says:

Not sure if anyone else over last couple weeks has had to wait a day or 2 for rubbish to be collected yet??? Sorry mate but your blog doesn’t seem to have much local content anymore. Reason I say that is you’ve got all this American stuff there and there’s a big problem right in front of you with the council it seems and nothings said. Ok given you might not have had the scoop on this one it’s pretty obvious after my chat with my rubbish collector council is fucked and broke big time. I asked what has happened the last 2 weeks, both times I’ve had rubbish sitting out. They said that they’ve had enough to doing overtime just to get job done, the trucks are always broken down. Not enough mechanics to fix them . Staff take sickies as RDOs because managers declined them during there EBA. That’s stuff has nothing to do with me that’s there problems and I said that to this person. I’m using them and person a lot because they asked not to say there sex as they will be disaplined. That’s a joke too. I heard a lot of talk on 4ttt Saturday morning about this topic and people were getting upset with the drivers accusing them of not working. My bin got picked up on a Saturday on double time penalty rates I was told. Mate they aren’t happy over there for some reason and I think there’s a big story there. The driver was reluctant to say much else. If we can’t get a simple service done then what’s going on at council. Plus my mate in heatley has a new green bin for trees and food which makes it 3 bins now. Of course we’ll have to pay for that, but how will they do 3 bins if they can’t keep up with 2 now.

    • The Magpie says:

There were a couple of previous comments during the week on this subject and The ‘Pie sought more info from readers.
So now you’ve got the ball rolling on the story, which is excellent, that is the way this blog works.

But yes, you’re right about content, sometimes there isn’t enough of important or laughability around, so The ‘Pie first goes to state, and then the Feds.

The American gallery is a regular feature that gives us an insight into a nation of great importance to us. It’s easily skipped if not interested.

      • Alahazbin says:

Pie, Ever since amalgamation those departments associated with waste management have seen major changes. There is a lot of dead wood that floated to the the top. Hence fucked strategies.
All departments are working on 40% reduction of staff. Looks like Jenny’s plan to train up mower operators to become garbo drivers didn’t work out.
You know why? There is not enough mower drivers to go around Jennny. You got rid of them.
For those people that drive past the Cranbrook Depot near the river at the Charles Barton Bridge. Have you noticed the reduction in cars parked at the depot over the last five years.

    • Therese says:

Yes I agree local issues such as our rubbish collection are important. However we are closer to America more than we realise. This week’s Rowe vs Wade laws sent chills down my spine. If we vote the wrong people in such as One Nation that has propospous and untrue prolife policies, we will be as close to becoming like Gilliad as the US is. You can’t ban abortion. You only end up with dead mothers and dead babies. Praised be. Thank you Magpie on reporting this important issue.

      • The Magpie says:

Isn’t it a grim laugh we utter when we remember when America was called ‘the leader of the civilised world’?

      • Tropical says:

        Therese
I take it that you support full term abortion up to the moment of birth.
        People like you disgust me.
The SCOTUS draft did not ban abortion but will send it back to the states to manage and legislate with no Federal oversight.
It is simple to understand the proposed draft decision if you read it, but that requires you to remove your head from a dark recess.

        • The Magpie says:

OK, that’s a point of view, (which is coyly ingenuous to say the least) but what is not clear is where Terese in her comment even vaguely hinted that she ‘supported abortion up to the moment of birth’.
          .

        • The Impudent Digit says:

Nevermind tropical, you are talking to a brickwall to the lunatics that encourage abortion. The spiteful mutants in society are all about destroying humanity. Child sacrifice by any other means.

Maybe the only way to ensure better outcomes is to stop wasting shipping weapons to ukraine and use the money to PAY people to receive under the skin implant contraception ?

    • I’ll Be Plucked says:

Idiot. This blog has plenty of local stuff in it. Where have you been hiding? Plus I get to my have days each week and I love that aspect.

      • The Magpie says:

Always pleased to offer you your ‘get to my have days’, Plucker. Creme de menthe eggs for brekky? Again?

  3. Mike Douglas says:

City Deal a 15 year commitment by Federal / State / Council to plan and deliver transformational outcomes for Townsville so is Mayor Hill overriding Aaron Harper on a splash park at the Upper Ross in his electorate ? . Aaron seems to run his electorate on Facebook and has made no comment . Will Aaron choose his Labor party over his electorate yet again .

    • The Magpie says:

Hi Mike, The Magpie became quite excited with your comment when he read about a ‘slash park’, but The ‘Pie took pity on you and added the pee … which is appropriate for a park where you can have a slash.

      • Bentley says:

A sort of a park complete with ensuite. Would have been great at drive-in theatres.

Hey, it’s a rainy Sunday, so here’s something to wile away a few minutes.

The Magpie is always very cautious with this KC site, but it is run by a competent (most times) journalist, Shane Dowling.

Mr Dowling has his unreasonable obsessions, mainly about ‘pedo judges’ – and has been in and out of chokey on brief occasions for them – but this story is an object lesson to journos (are you listening, Bulletin?) using a well researched timeline to make a factual argument. Dowling seems to have nailed something here, be interesting to see what the baying mob of bimbos and boofheads take to Morrison about it.

The part-time CEO, Prince Ralston, and our incompetent Mayor have very little jam left in the jam jar. What we are witnessing, financially, is the dying days of Councils bucket of money. It has never been ‘bottomless’ and now the Reaper is calling. There will an increase in substandard services as the TCC debt increases.

My suggestion is for people around here to wake up to the current situation. Vote in Phil Thomson federally. Phil will then be able to cast his influence further and hopefully we can then vote out Mayor Mullet next local government election. Then maybe, just a maybe, our city can be turned into a viable and important part of this State. Otherwise we will be stuck with a V8 hooning half woman/half sergeant major Mayor in charge with a Nous lieutenant at her side both singing ‘Nearer My God To Thee’ as the S.S TCC sinks beneath the ice.

With a couple of weeks to go i thought I better flick on the idiot box to see/hear what the court jesters from the different tribes and the court reporters from the different tribes were up to

I ironed the clothes for this week whilst watching Insiders .. what a shambles .. more wrinkles then my shirts .. the jesters and the reporters particularly speers at his interruptive best .. the best on field was Waleed Aly .. someone i dont like but today seemed more a malcolm in the middle man then ive ever seen him

I flicked over and caught Ulman at his puerile best .. interviewing Barnaby .. you could have knocked me over with a feather .. boy beetroot actually wasn’t too bad .. prosecuted his regional imperatives and actually didn’t rise to Ulmans stab at conflating religion and politics

What is going on .. Talk about a mixed bag of all sorts .. then i caught the update on Ukraine ..reinforcing my view what a self entitled bunch the current crop of court jesters and reporters that grace our screens are ..

And of course the blog topics today reflect that in spades at the Local level in Tville .. standards have sunk lower than the Moskva.

With all the talk of Red lines and Barnaby lines .. and then the stumbled Albanese lines what can we expect next from our gesturing jesters and their court reporters .. just going around in circle perhaps .. which when you think of it is a line where two ends just happen to meet ..

    • Prince Rollmop says:

No doubt the mainstream reporters will resort to some more futile and immature ‘gotcha’ questions.

Reporting in this country, by and large, has reached a dismal low. Media agencies are controlled controlled by old skeletor Murdoch and are ensuring unbiased reporting is at the forefront. Murdoch is about Murdoch. Younger reporters are looking for fame and fortune and are therefor abusing their role as unbiased investigators And and in lieu of asking well framed questions and seeking a depth of content from those they are interviewing, reporters have chosen to engage in fuckwittery by playing tricks on unsuspecting targets and therefor wasting the opportunity to seek out relevant information. Newspapers are filled with crap about ‘who is the best looking criminal in your town’ or filled with Gerry Harvey commercials.

We are seeing political strength very slowly gravitating towards the Independents and ‘teal candidates’ due to mainline political bullshit that the voters are getting tired of. We are also slowly seeing the reporting and publishing of information turning away from the mainstream fuckwittery style reporting and turning more towards social media and blogs such as this one to get information across. The world is truly a changing place.

      • Addled says:

Rollmop, you wrote that media agencies are controlled controlled by old skeletor Murdoch and are ensuring unbiased reporting is at the forefront. Looks weird to me but that’s what you wrote.

If “unbiased reporting” (of the Murdoch kind) is what you want then stick with the mainstream media you know: The Australian and the Townsville Bulletin. If “unbiased investigators” is what you want then you’ll have to go somewhere else. Let us know if you find anything, at all, that meets your expectations.

        • The Magpie says:

Look, The ‘P{ie has to agree, that was a strangely ambiguous statement, but he let it slide at the time. Perhaps Mopsey could expand on the phrase.

But in. the meantime, to the rest of your comment, Addled, you are in deep error if you think the Murdoch media are biased … why, goodness me, we have no less than Murdoch’s man in Oz putting that scurrilous rumour to rest. And gosh, a man in such an exalted position wouldn’t lie would he?

          • The Magpie says:

Why the fuck does a paper or editor have to ‘endorse’ anybody. By all means have your usual biased waffle in the editorial column, which is only read by politicians and other journalists, but in the news columns, just report the fucking facts without twisting it with barely hidden opinion.

And far from being ‘community leaders setting the agenda’ as they so fondly fashion themselves, editors more than anyone read polls and opinions in letters and texts … and then sing to to the choir and preach to the converted.

BUT SHIT OH DEAR … along came Scomo and since New York wants him in the Lodge, the whole modus operandi has gone to hell in a handbasket, since an overwhelming percentage of readers won’t be swayed by editorial lies … they want Smirko gone.

          • Prince Rollmop says:

Pie, Addled et al. You are correct. My early morning missive was filled with errors, including my stating that the Murdoch machine promulgated “unbiased” journalism. They do in fact promote biased journalism to the highest degree. It is well known in Australia and the UK that Murdoch media decides election wins also through stereotyping, skewered reporting, deceitful reporting and outright dishonesty.

          • The Magpie says:

And America is getting more than an inkling through Fox News and the New York Post et al.

      • The Magpie says:

        A good point.

  11. Prince Rollmop says:

Another moronic, and supposed news journalist, Deb Knight asked Scomo and AnAl; “what the definition of a woman was”? Again, an opportunity for quality interviewing, for delving deep into what these two leaders has to offer Australia for the next 3 years, gets lost on stupid journalism. Grow up you fuckwits.

    • The Magpie says:

It is clear that while people like The Magpie whinge on about factionalism skewing agendas and policies, your comment is just the latest proof that journos charging in on their own hobby horses with certain single issue agendas are trying to hijack the election debate. The ‘Pie would be surprised if even half the number of journois at any given media circus (they try to dignify them by call them ‘news calls’ or ‘media conferences’) are actually reporters … the others are axe-grinding commentators.

      • Prickster says:

Media have never questioned themselves over promoting gender equity, covering transgender and non-binary stories whilst accepting advertising revenue promoting Mothers Day. Ah the hypocrisy.

        • The Magpie says:

Not sure what your point is … mothers are mothers, and you’d be right if the MS media made some distinction that denigrated or codified what a mother actually is – but The ‘Pie hasn’t seen any attempt at that with connection to Mothers Day, which always has been a commercial invention anyway.

  12. Non Aligned Worker says:

Todays weather headine and article in the Bully has me confused.

“WEATHER records are expected to be shattered during the month of May by the large-scale rainfall event approaching North Queensland.

Senior Meteorologist Steve Hadley from the Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) said Townsville’s May average of 33mm and record total of 180mm could be smashed by this week’s anticipated deluge of 150-200mm.”

Our record rainfall of 180mm may be broken by 20mm, That doesn’t equate to shattered or smashed, maybe nearly equalled or slightly increased?

  13. For sale sign says:

There has also been a few online articles about the poor old politicians having their corflute signs stolen! Heaven forbid! Some are saying it’s the lefties doing it, some say it is the right that are doing it. My thought is that the voters are doing it as they have had a gutful of the fucking spam texts, spam mail, and being accosted in public places. Then to make matters worse, having to see the faces of these entitled fuckwits staring back at them from every bus shelter, large tree or fence line is all too much. Political grubs inundating us with lies and bullshit for 50 consecutive days. And why? So that they can win 3 more gravy filled years sucking on the taxpayers teat.. yep, 2 years of COVID and being harassed to participate in vaccinations and we now get drowned in political advertising. I wish you could wipe your ass clean with a corflute because if you could, I would steal all of them!

  14. Achilles says:

Just saw the Russian “victory” commemoration parade in Moscow venerating Putin.

It looked more like the Nuremberg Nazi rallies adoration of Hitler.

Oh! how history repeats…..just look at the absurd Filipine elections.

    • Spartacus says:

Fuck Putin. What a douchebag. And the rumour has it that he has some form of stomach cancer. If that is true then let’s hope he dies a slow death. Disgraceful human being, and a coward.

      • The Magpie says:

Parkinson’s too is a popular expectation …. one thing is for sure just looking at him …. he’s definitely on chemo.

      • The Impudent Digit says:

        A lot of big talk

Go and join the foreign legion of volunteers to help fight putin and his evil ways

  15. The Magpie says:

Forward planning, eh? As versus what other sort of planning?

Well, suppose with a lot of TCC ideas, there’s make-it-up-as-you-go planning.

But planning means looking forward. FFS.

  16. Alfred E Neuman says:

Attention Arm Chair Keyboard Election Critics,

To the sad tired old ignoramus with no ambition and fuckall interest in anything, filling your pathetic days criticising the election I say, “Good on ya, if you don’t like it, leave and fuck off to, hmmm,,,,,, let’s think about it, ,,,, North Korea, China, Cuba, Saudi Arabia, Haiti, Romania, Libya, how about the Democratic Republic of Congo, or, and you will love this,,,,,,, Afghanistan.

To you grumbling irrelevant old fucks I say, most politely, “Please piss off and be quiet. ”

Our Australian system of governance is deeply floored. The Fathers, and there must have been a few Mother’s, of Federation spent time examining existing systems of government at the time, extracting the best from most and we have what we have now.

    Perfect, no,

    Equally better than most, yes,

    Political candidates irritating, a bit,

    Elections well conducted, yes.

    Rule of law, yes.

Corruption control, not quite at a Federal level at the moment.

But the above does not justify your pathetic ignorant bagging of the election, it’s processes and participants, which is the entire adult (that includes you pathetic people) population.

Just go away and shut the fuck up.

    • Alfred E Neuman says:

      And don’t forget to vote.

      • Alahazbin says:

Madman, Don’t forget the labor ethos. ‘Vote early, vote often.

        • The Magpie says:

Perpetuating that old canard doesn’t serve anyone well …. there is no widespread and systematic voter fraud in Australia, and such claims by the likes of Pauline Hanson fly in the face of independent studies of voting practices and performances in this country in recent decades. The odd occasion when dud votes turn up are both miniscule with no effect on any outcome, and mostly honest if dumb mistakes. Like the old saying has it, one swallow doesn’t mean she loves you … or something like that.

    • The Magpie says:

The ‘Pie is floored by the flaws in your argument – and grammar.

      Off to FB now, sonny.

  17. Nurse Ratchet says:

Religious nut job, Mayor Tom Tate, has blasted Labor and LNP and is threatening to vote for Cholesterol Clive! Personally, I couldn’t give a shit who Tate votes for, but there have now been several ‘high profilers’ publicly stating that they will be voting for the minor parties. Albo, Smirko, Katter, Clive – what a motley crew of freaks and fucktards. The choices are simply awful.

  18. Fact Hunt says:

The Townsville Mayor rejecting the splash park for the Upper Ross area because it’s a Federal Liberal Party initiative reminds me of when Mayor Mooney refused to attend the handing over of Kissing Point to the city because he thought it would be a “Liberal Love-in”. Who do the people think they are?! They were voted in to represent the people of Townsville, not the Labor Party. No- one hates like the left!

    • Mike Douglas says:

Fact Hunt , The Mayor not wanting a splash park in Aaron Harpers electorate and Harper is MIA on the issue . Harper seems to be running his electorate by facebook and Phil Thompson has him so spooked Harper said couldnt wait to get to Parliament to out Thompson under Parliamentary Privilege . Harper also claimed the Federal Funding to put CCTV cameras and bollards into local parks ( Qld Government failed to do ) to stop stolen cars ripping up turf and keeping children safe was a election stunt .

      • Alahazbin says:

Mike, Harpic in Parliament yesterday calling point of order while the kid was addressing parliament cause he called Harpic’s committee report a sham. What a pathetic flee.

  19. Critical says:

It could only happen in Boganville, Maccas Fairfield Waters is out of cows milk, yiu can only get coffee made on almond milk. Reason given for no cows milk, supply chain issues. I think this reason sounds like the fall back reason for poor management.

Also found out to my dismay this morning that Maccas Cafe and drive through are no longer issuing loyality cards, you have to download their app to claim your credit points and now they also prefer you to pre-order your coffee etc before you get to their premises. Isn’t this a form of discrimination against people who don’t have a smart phone and/or want to give Maccas their private details. I dread to think about the amount of junk marketing materials that you’d get once they had your email and phone number details.

    • The Magpie says:

      Scandalous!!!

      • The Magpie says:

    • I’ll Be Plucked says:

Critical, stop you moaning and go and milk a bull.

    • Addled says:

Critical, heard from a shopkeeper the other day that there is severe rationing of milk all over the east coast because of the huge dairy stock losses in north coast NSW in the floods. Also, apparently there is a shortage of bread because of damages to bakeries (possibly in Brisbane) leading to bakeries as far north as Rocky being called in to supply the SE and northern NSW.

    • Alahazbin says:

Shit Crits, Macca’s out of cows milk. Just send the junior next door to Otto’s or even drive over to Fairfield Coles or Woollies. Common sense FFS.

  20. The Magpie says:

    This man wants your vote.

  21. The Magpie says:

Royalists are aghast, but perhaps it’s for the best – The Queen has the speech written for her by the government of the day, and Ben Jennings of the Guardian sees an unhappy situation if she attended.

    • Prince Rollmop says:

The UK citizens are deluded. The old bag and her cohort ride around in carriages looking down on their shit kicker servants while the servants, who are privately struggling to eek out a living, look up and smile at the Royal parasites as they whisk by and wave. In any other era it would be seen as slavery or discrimination, but somehow these royal fucktards are idolised. The royal family have a history that involved murder, incest, rape, and burning heretics at the stake. In this year of 2022 they should cease to exist. Why? Because all they do is sponge off taxpayer money while living a protected and opulent lifestyle all because of a surname. It’s a fucking disgrace. Get rid of them.

      • Addled says:

Rollmop, not only UK citizens. Australians had an opportunity to bring in a republic but were so invested in arguing over the ‘model’ they/we couldn’t make up our minds and let it go. We could easily do it all over again. We let the concept of ‘perfect’ get in the way of ‘adequate-for-now’ and allowed JHoward to walk the whole show back to Queen Elizabeth. Not sure who the fucktards really are but I don’t think there’s high ground for anyone in Australia – especially a self-styled ‘prince’.

        • The Magpie says:

The ‘Pie has never quite cottoned on to this idea of ‘the right model’. A Republic is fine, but surely we’re not going to change the way we are governed, since so little now depends on London – if anything still does, we did away with the privy council yonks ago – so what is the argument about? Is it how to choose a -what, a president? No big deal, because surely it remains Prime Minister and cabinet and the president fulfils largely the role current held by the governor general, but with no executive powers to speak of. Please do not say that anyone is proposing an US style presidency, one of the most outdated and ridiculous invitations to corruption one could imagine.

          • Addled says:

” . . . so what is the argument about?” It’s about the method of selecting the president. On one hand the P could be selected as the Governor General is now – by the Prime Minister and government. On the other hand the P could be elected by the citizens – as happens in Ireland. Australians who are in favour of a republic are divided over the ‘model’ for selection of the P. So divided that we’d rather stick with the royal family than lose a vote over the ‘model’.

          • The Magpie says:

But does it matter if the President is titular only … in fact, why do we need a president anyway? Sounds like a highly paid ribbon cutting role, funded by the taxpayers. Of course, either of the two ways suggested means we could end up with, on the one hand, a superannuated party favourite (like the traitor Andrew Robb) or Gina Rinehart or on the other, President Grace Tame, Adam Goodes or Rose Batty. Unless the electorate, in a fit of sanity, delivered us President Ash Barty, President Pat Rafter or a co-presidency of The Wiggles (think of the musical greetings for visiting heads of state!!).

          • Addled says:

“But does it matter if the President is titular only?” Probably not but every country in the world has a human for its ‘Head of State’. I suppose we could have a lump of stone or a black box with the Constitution inside but that is not the question being put.

          • The Magpie says:

Could be the human equivalent of what we end up with. Seems an exercise in political/state sematics … but The ‘Pie certainly puts his hand up for a republic.

      • Alahazbin says:

Have you joined the ‘Culture Change’ mob PR?

  22. Dave of Kelso says:

    Dear ‘Pie,
Raining a bit here now. Reminds me of the Night of Noah. Heavier than 2019. Hope the Nesters can keep their bum feathers dry.

    • The Magpie says:

Pretty steady but getting heavier … the old town might be in for it.

And just for the record for later compoarision:

      RR Dam 10am May 10 67.6%.

      • Achilles says:

Not to worry Jenny has returned just in time, she will don her Boss coat and make all the decisions, after all she only managed to flood half of Townsville last time.

      • Addled says:

By 5am the dam was at 80%. But the rainfall was only exceptional for being in May rather than the actual quantity. There are numerous readings around town in the 150+mm (Riverway is 198mm at 7am) but these were all exceeded easily only a couple of weeks ago (26/4) with numerous readings over 200mm and a couple over 300mm. The night of Noah was in a class of its own.

        • The Magpie says:

Sure, but to paraphrase our glorious leader (pro tem) ‘it’s not a contest’. The trick wit the RRD is that often not how much but where … the town can get a drenching but if the catchment area out the back is bypassed, the dam gets SFA.

And 13% overnight … or at least in 18 hours, is a helluva inflow and very cheer worthy.

  23. Jatzcrackers says:

A post today on councils FB page advising locals not to water the garden when it’s raining ! To think some total fuckwit under General Jenny is paid $130k + a year for that priceless gem !

    • The Magpie says:

Send us a screen shot … priceless.

    • NQ Gal says:

Unfortunately a lot of ratepayers will forget or just don’t know how to turn off / adjust automatic irrigation systems. The 80+ year old couple across the road have theirs on between 6 and 7 every night.

  24. Mic Drop says:

    Just a few items:

Jayne Arlett a popular choice for deputy Chancellor JCU announced yesterday.

Watermark restaurant sold to Melbourne based Kickon group – the latest confirmation of out-of-town interest in Tville in many areas for the past 18 mths out .

Shortages Milk and Bread – Tip Top / Wonder soft / Abbotts, these big multi nationals did a News Corp and only deliver to Coles / Woolies /Iga and left corner stores high and dry . Short weeks most small bakeries cant afford $300 a shift per baker so didn’t open public holidays . Milk including condensed milk an issue for different reasons

  25. The Magpie says:

Sad news indeed with the loss of Magistrate Howard Osborne (on left), who served as a magistrate in Townsville for a number of years. Well liked and well respected, Howard, who was appointed from the ranks of Legal Aid, was a thoroughly decent man on and off the bench. Never one to rush to judgement, Howard consistently delivered fair and considered outcomes. In my professional and private dealings with him, I never once saw him rise to anger. He was a fine person.

    Vale Howard.

    • The Magpie says:

The reporting on Howard Osborne’s death is sparse, almost terse, to say the least. It leaves some questions about the circumstances. We are simply told that his body was found at the foot of a scenic waterfall in SEQ last week, not far from Toowoomba where he was living and working. It is poor reporting that leaves the death open to speculation, and it is unlikely the authorities are withholding basic cause of death information.

      • Prince Rollmop says:

Judge Peter Zahra, who was the Beak in the Guy Sebastian fraud case, dropped off the perch the other day too. Old mate had a stroke.

        • The Magpie says:

Because of the distance and unlikely local connections, The Magpie will allow himself the observation that it may have taken some time before those in the court realised the judge had departed … initially, they probably thought he may have just been asleep, since that if the effect anything to do with Guy Sebastian has on many people.

  26. Prince Rollmop says:

The Beetrooter was forced to pause a press conference to clean himself up after he suffered a nose bleed while on stage at the National Press Club. Perhaps Vicky Crampion socked him one? Either that or he has been swinging off his office chandelier with her, both naked, and covered in edible sauce.

  27. The Magpie says:

    OK here’s something new …

Occasionally we hear of death threats made against politicians, but it’s a rarity to hear death threats made by a politician (except in Russia). But in another magnificent first for Townsville and it’s reputation as the IQ capital of NQ, independent whack-job candidate Steven Clare appears to have done just that in today’s Daily Astonisher. He placed this long and tediously jumbled thought-salad on page 14.

It was breathy yada yada yada blah blah blah for the most part but the kicker came at the end, when we read this:

This not only raises questions about Clare’s emotional state mind (he apparently lost a family member from a drug overdose) but his proof reading might be questionable, too … when he said ‘sing’ did he mean ‘swing’? ‘Sing’ doesn’t make much sense, but then, just about none of it does as a candidate pitch. Not that it matters, the personal nature of the vigilante threat is undeniable.

This from an angry boofhead whose main platform plank is severe punishment for criminal youth.

Perhaps the AEC might want to have a quiet word with Mr Clare.

    • Tenacious D says:

I thought I would check out this guys FB, wow, this comment was froim 2 hours ago – please edit as required!

      What I’m about.
Welfare review – a complete overhaul of the welfare system
There is a need to give a deterrent to the number of children long term welfare recipients are having. At the moment the government has incentivised these families to have large numbers of children.
Alternatively we should offer incentives to keep families small. Taxpayers will fund up to 3 children. Previous arrangements will remain unaltered, but moving forward the first 3 children will be funded at more than they are currently. More money for having fewer children.
Those who have trouble using contraceptives will be offered government funded free, voluntary tubule ligations and or vasectomies. Those with religious beliefs not being able to use contraceptives will only be funded for 3 children. We will no longer tolerate parents bringing children into drug and alcohol fuelled environments. Parents whose relationship involves domestic violence and criminal activity will be exempt from bringing more children into that environment.
Couples who wish to have more children will be assessed. They will have to show they are good parents. The care and nurturing they have provided for their first 3 children will be used to assess their ability to raise more children. This assessment will involve, firstly, drug testing, using hair follicle analysis, after the first 3 children. This will be mandatory. Secondly, an assessment of their parenting skills. This will be assessed by checking: child enrolment and attendance at school, the making and keeping of doctors’ and other child related appointments, having filled pharmaceutical prescriptions and welfare visits in the home.
This is not about stopping people having more children. I recognise this is a choice. Couples may choose to have more than 3 children but taxpayers are not going to support their upbringing. To support their children those couples will be able to obtain part-time work and that work will not affect their part A and part B family tax benefit. Money earned will be capped at different rates for 4/5/6 children.
Money saved will be used to top up family tax benefits for those having up to 3 children, top up pension funds, particularly the old age pension and disability pension and to provide funding to charities to supply food vouchers for those who think they can wrought the welfare system.
Adopting this new look welfare system will contribute to paying off our increasing national debt.
To summarise – Those keeping families at or below 3 children will have more money for less children instead of the current situation where they receive more money for more children.

    • The Magpie says:

But of course if Steven gets up, he is assured of a cabinet post … that is, if this happens.

  28. The Magpie says:

    Small mercies.

  29. Kenny Kennett says:

Just watched the debate. Albo was full of bullshit and had no idea moving forward. But Morrison and his advisers are fucking idiots. Whoever advised him of how to contest this debate could well have just lost the election. Although, looking at Smirko, I think that he shrugged off the advise of his team and went it alone. He has no idea of what the electorate thinks and any chance he may have had has now been blown out of the water because of his ignorance. He knows nothing about people outside of parliament and the church. Not down to earth…up himself. And we’re the ones who are going to suffer under Napoleon and the other pigs, when Labor win.

    • Fireman Sam says:

      I don’t hold a hose mate…….

    • Addled says:

Kenny, you reckon Morrison has no idea of what the electorate thinks and any chance he may have had has now been blown out of the water because of his ignorance – but you’ll still vote for him and the Libs won’t you? Because despite his appalling performance (let alone the “fucking idiots” around him), you won’t be changing. You won’t be ‘sending a message’ by giving Pauline or Clive or Bob or the Greens your first preference. No, no you’ll just vote the ticket like always and likely get the same result – which is madness apparently.

    • Dave of Kelso says:

I did not bother watching this debate, or the others, knowing I could get a fair and balanced review from other forums, like this one.

    • The (barely) Civil Engineer says:

With every passing day I just listen and read less and less about the general erection. When there is only a choice between the corrupt and out of touch, the incompetent, or the lunatic fringe perhaps the best idea is just to accept the fine for not voting when it eventually comes. I do not want to be involved in electing any of these bottom feeders at any level of government.

  30. The Magpie says:

Our favourite fishy fraulein has the the Walker Street Reich running smoothly, as Clr Fran has just found out.

    • Mike Douglas says:

Magpie , is this part of the Mayors new strategy on removing red tape ? . Not giving Fran access and proper forum to debate the budget surely is a breach of the local Government act ? .

    • Prince Rollmop says:

With regards to the budget, Fran will get her chance to have a say. There will be numerous “back and forth’s” between Councillors and the executive group over the budget details during the coming 6 weeks.

As for the standing committees, well, Mayor Mullet has been able to ‘compliantly’ stick the knife into Fran’s back and twist it. No real surprise there. Best thing Fran can do is stay cool, use social media as an avenue to keep her constituents well informed about each petty and childish thing that the Mayor does.

Every week that goes by, the Mullet shows up herself as being a nasty, spiteful, pathetic piece of dung. Keep it up Jenny. You truly are a pathetic child.

    • The (barely) Civil Engineer says:

That sounds for all the tea in China to be grounds for a complaint to the Independent Assessor. Another integrity scandal is just what our glorious Premier needs right now and I bet she would give the Mullet a smack up the side of the head for petty bullshit like this.

  31. The Real Elusive Butterfly says:

Mr. Pie, KK and others have obviously fallen into the Goebbels “big lie” trap!
As the little, club-foot “Aryan” (now there an irony) reportedly said:

“If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it. The lie can be maintained only for such time as the State can shield the people from the political, economic and/or military consequences of the lie. It thus becomes vitally important for the State to use all of its powers to repress dissent, for the truth is the mortal enemy of the lie, and thus by extension, the truth is the greatest enemy of the State.”

He was hoping for easy money and instead got a Council that is hard work. Lazy fuck Consultants don’t like to work hard for their money. The fact that TCC’s finances are of deep concern may also motivate his lordship to bail out with his reputation to the outside world intact.

This article is all bullshit – Adani, like coal, oil and gas are going nowhere.

      • The Magpie says:

That’s even more confusing …. MarketForces is an green environmental group, and is taking on claims by an investment group that is suggesting the game is up for coal. So is Vanguard trying for some weird ‘greenwashing’ to lull mining opponents into some sort of sense of security? Having checked Vanguard out, The Magpie tends to agree with you, Nickster, but still can’t see what the game is, unless Vanguard is seeking to attract mug punters to a particular sector the market. But doesn’t matter, agree that Vanguard’s call is … shall we say … a tad fairyland? And the story came from the InQueensland site, which is generally solid in regular day to day news, but like it’s pals at The New Daily, have some interesting investors behind it, including the not to be trusted and highly self-interested LGAQ (part owners of InQueensland).

        • Westie says:

          Seems straightforward to me.

Vanquard, an investor with an interest in the success of certain coal miners, has published an analysis that the actions of those coal miners is perfectly safe and does not endanger the planet (despite their admissions that they are working with inadequate information). So stop being mean to them, and let them get on with transferring all that lovely sequestered carbon from where it has safely rested for billions of years (enabling life on earth) back to the atmosphere where it can generate executive bonuses and dividends.

Market Forces, on the other hand has pointed out that the Vanguard report is misleading (perhaps even a load of shit), and should be ignored. So let’s get on with doing everything we can to stop the coalminers.

I see that yet another middle eastern bikie grub down south has met the Grim Reaper. It’s actually quite exciting watching this dumbfucks taking each other out. Not too many of them get to live out their retirement years in peace and luxury. I reckon the police should let them keep going at each other until none are left.

    • The Magpie says:

Yes, although not subscribing to your colourful description of problem solving, complete with a little dab of racism, The Magpie has often wondered at the sincerity of grim faced wallopers deploring the inter-gang killings and woundings. Copper mates of the ‘Pie say to a man very much what you’ve said Scooter, but only ever privately. Of course, officially, they can’t invite any group to have sanctioned mayhem on the proviso they keep it among themselves, but one won’t be surprised if someday a fed-up copper starts out a press briefing with ‘Good news today, folks ….’

      • Scooter boy says:

I realise my comment may hint at racism, but I’m actually a very fair and balanced man with many various ethnic friends. It just seems that in recent years most of these bikies getting killed are middle eastern, hence my comment as such.
